    Wonderful video. Thank you. Amazing how many peaks/mountains can be viewed from that one peak. Also, it's interesting how clear the underbrush is, there's practically none.

    Great video Matt! I love the fact that you took several different hikes to make it. Excelent photography and music. That snow was intense! We dont get accumulation like that in PA. I would have stayed outside the cabin as well, too crowded for my taste. Thanks for sharing.

    • @MattCookOregon
      @MattCookOregon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yeah I was trying to decide which trail to cover at first, then realized it would be interesting to show a bit of them all. Fortunately the snow part was way before Covid haha.

    When covid hit I decided to start getting outdoors. I discovered this channel when searching “hiking in Salem/Keizer” and now you have become my favorite channel along with Hike Oregon. Thank you for “taking me outdoors” while I haven’t gotten myself to go out yet. It’s kind of scary going out alone the first few times. Nonetheless I’m just blabbing, thanks for being one of the greatest outdoor channels for our beautiful state

    • @MattCookOregon
      @MattCookOregon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony thank you comments like this keep me going. Going out alone is scary and dangerous. I guess I have been doing it so long it seems so normal to me. Of course no one wants to wait for me to setup a tripod every mile and wait hours for the sun to be in right position. But yeah get out there, start with the easy local hikes and go a bit further each time. Always bring enough to survive overnight, even on a day hike. Wonder if I should do some kinda instructional video?

    Thanks for a thorough job and nice video . I got to see a good chunk of Oregon from here in Colorado.. Your camera set up is similar to mine except I have a Nikon D7100 and a GoPro 8. Well done, beautiful, and very informative! My husband and I summited Maiden Peak on Saturday (8/6/22) via the Gold Lake trail head. I added a short run at the end to make it a full 12-miles for the day (I'm a ultrarunner so distance isn't hard for me). Due to fires in the Waldo and Odell Lake areas, the views were obscured. We plan to take the 17-mile route in the early fall and hopefully then have the amazing views (and minus the mosquitos that were persistent this time up). I appreciate your descriptions of what can be viewed from the summit and will refer to them the next time we're up there!

      @tthappyrock368 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattCookOregon the east side of it has some good views of Mt. Hood while the west side looks over Portland. It's getting built up, unfortunately. I think I tried driving up to the top several years ago and found a gated property or community. Height is probably around 700ft. A lot of the buttes, hills and mountains in Portland are extinct volcanos--even an area between Powell Butte and Scouter's Mountain is an old caldera. So the one up here definitely doesn't have the same challenges as its southern cousin nor the same beauty. Just different. I hope to visit the southeastern part of the state next year and see the pronghorn refuge.
