As much as the full scene of Freelancer seems pretty neat, I do understand why a lot of it was cut. If Freelancer was aiming for full realism, a weapon launched from such an extreme distance of the outer planets would take a very long time to reach the sun, even if it was using special drives to reach it. It also seems a little too much for one cutscene where humans escape war + here come aliens to blow everyone up. Plus, I don't recall the Nomads ever using this technology again, or it would have had way more of an impact in the overall game and story. I think Freelancer still did a good job with the overall story and having an alien conspiracy taking place at the same time. It's more insidious and makes more sense.
This video isn't canonical, because the story in the game is completely different. Instead, the Nomads were created by the Dom'Kavash, which are the aliens that existed in Sirius millions of years before humans ever existed. They disappeared and left behind the Nomads and the artifacts. When humans arrived in Sirius, Ageira used alien technology found on planet Manhattan to invent the trade lanes and jump gates.
holy cow I was pissed about the beginning video... I wanted to go back to fight the coalition. Now to know there wasn't anything to go back to to fight... what a change of perspective... after 15 years ish of thinking one way.
Our solar system was never destroyed. Nomads did attack, but was not that destructive as shown. Reason why this scene was cut was that they overkilled the solar system & was not destructive; this intro also exposed the real threat, instead of keeping player in suspense.
Whoa that was amazing! Never played Starlancer but I love Freelancer, damn all that effort from the coalition...just to get blown away like that, I'm glad the Nomads don't make supernovas in Freelancer!
Hey, how do we take a cool WWIII in space game and transition it to Freelancer? ALIENS! Ugh, dumbest plot twist. Not EVERY game needs aliens to be interesting.
since the extended version doesn't appear in the original intro, We can assume Earth still exist. unless the developers had stated earth and sol was gone
I agree. They should end with a twist where the Coalition have already spread out of Sol and began "reclaiming" all of humanity in Sirius, and all of the houses have to unite to oppose the Coalition.
@Arrogantdick No it's not. This was the extended intro not released with the original game. Think it was included on one of the budget offerings in a later release. The original Microsoft trailer included in the game doesn't feature the Nomad section.
Aliens and Predator, as well as some Star Trek too I think, all Jerry Goldsmith works basicaly. I think they were being used as place holders, while the game's own soundtrack was still being worked on.
...I ask what happenes when we have to fly in another sector in the future. retreating for Russia and China. I ask me how will it feels to leave ur home. To leave ur life to start a new life somewhere in a never discovered area.
If they do insist on ALIENS! at least have the Coalition BE the 3rd faction. The Sirian Houses have already earned their freedom, the aliens are still everywhere, and suddenly the Coalition comes to take over Sirius. That is what should have happen.
Chris Roberts is making a new game! Search for Star Citizen and your mind will be blown! They are funding the project right now and place are still open for alpha/beta for people who are willing to donate. Please help spread the word so that we can have the most epic game the industry has every seen.
prefer the game play of starlancer more and never played freelancer, youtubed it and the gameplay is not more mouse while starlancer is more a space sim more for me

+NUKE ZAP Play Discovery Freelancer.
The Coalition stowed away aboard Hispania.
+Josh Sierakowski Fanon and Official canon are NOT the same thing, sadly.
+Skijaramaz Given that Microsoft has lost the source code and no longer cares about this, it's firmly in Word of Dante.

Eh.

I did the opposite. I played the hell out of Starlancer but never played Freelancer. One of my favorite games I have ever played.
Freelancer is more fun and more open game with lots of trading endgame and more exploration.
@@c19firstrespondergamer20Freelancer sucks! StarLancer way better!!!
Hey, how do we take a cool WWIII in space game and transition it to Freelancer?
ALIENS!
Ugh, dumbest plot twist. Not EVERY game needs aliens to be interesting.
This is what happens in Freelancer Discovery, the fan-made total conversion mod for freelancer.
since the extended version doesn't appear in the original intro, We can assume Earth still exist. unless the developers had stated earth and sol was gone
Considering Jupiter blows up, I think it's safe to say that everything except Pluto is gone.
Developers of Freelancer stated the planets were never destroyed.
This isn't canon, but it doesn't really matter either
I agree. They should end with a twist where the Coalition have already spread out of Sol and began "reclaiming" all of humanity in Sirius, and all of the houses have to unite to oppose the Coalition.
The way that the sound is so far off from the original opening cutscene makes this very, very uncanny.
And the sacrifices of the 45th “Tigers” ended up being wasted.
Well there goes our home world, No world will ever be the same as our earth, the grass, the air, It will all feel... different.
@Arrogantdick

So where did that cutscene with the nomad ship come from? I dont recall that being in the intro to freelancer.
My guess it was made way before the game was finished and was cutted in the editing room
Sounds like the OST from Aliens

Definitely Star Trek in it, around 2:57 and following ... soundtrack from Wrath of Khan.
James Horner, actually--and the scores were from Wrath of Khan and Aliens
Also this is a good opening, but i'd see how it would spoil the story line since you had to find out about the nomads, and be like WTF!
It will be the greatest space sim game ever made that's for sure. I've already pledged :3
And bits from Aliens and Star Trek 2
reminds me of the Imperium Galactica 2 Solarian Intro...
It was made for windows 95, but I have personally played it on windows 7 with no trouble.
...I ask what happenes when we have to fly in another sector in the future. retreating for Russia and China. I ask me how will it feels to leave ur home. To leave ur life to start a new life somewhere in a never discovered area.
what the hell is a dyson Sphere?

a solar system death star. wow.
i think the extra bits of the trailer are non canon.
THIS GAME HAS A DYSON SPHERE
INSTANT WIN !!!
Good point.

Nomads???Yeap!!!

Nice !
Pretty cool.
The extra should be shown after u beat the game
Silly harbinger.. blowing up the solar system now are you. (play discovery freelancer? you would know.)
EPIC!!!!
And... the 'young' General must have hated his backwater station. Lucky him.
done :) wow... if we can travel to other stars ... we can build a dyson sphere to produce energy ^^

Freelancer was a huge disappointment, its like they didn't give a crap.
