Excellent advice. I followed this video advice to register my imported car... the advice of sending photos is really useful and I did this....result 3 weeks later I had my log book without one problem. Turned what looked really complicated into a straight forward process....thank you very much

I've registered a few vintage motorcycles that I've bought in Italy, usually with no docs just a scrappy receipt, I've never had a physical NOVA certificate, they just look at their records for the NOVA to make sure I've done it. I once registered a 48cc moped and didn't get NOVA for it because anything under 49cc is exempt from NOVA and I got the forms sent back to me stating that I had no NOVA I had to send the forms back with a printout of the rules concerning under 49cc and then it was sorted, They did send out an inspector though. Your video is very informative.

Who has a cheque book these days? Anyway, the penny dropped I can use a postal order so off to the Post Office I guess.

Hi this was helpful for sure. I am looking at bringing a 2015 car from Germany and meeting myself coming backwards trying to get concrete info on what I would and wouldn't need to pay. Its a private seller and I planned to bring it here on export plates myself, bringing it off the ferry to home, then register etc but paying 20% vat on top of the purchase price would be a deal breaker for sure. (It's a Renault Megane so nothing too exotic but it's a specific one I am looking at for around €20k)

    • @FoxSpeedshop

Hi, I have never imported anything new enough to need the full 20% vat payable, but being a newer car you will likely need to complete more of the v55 document than for an older classic vehicle over 25 years, sorry I cant advise more as I dont know for sure.

Two questions: 1), do I def not need insurance (historic vehicle)?! everywhere seems to say I do (based in England). and 2) I've got a build date from Ford of Oct81 but on the original reg docs a first reg date of 1/1/81! Guessing it was just a computational thing as pre-digital records probably just had year and nothing else. Best for v55/5 to match original reg docs even of chronology is weird? Thanks mate!

Hi, I have an interesting one in so much that I am reimporting a 1980 Bentley T2 that was exported to Germany in 2009. My shipping company is handling all the import papers and taxes and are stating that a 5% tax on the purchase price(15000 euros) + shipping + German export tax + an import tax of £150 and of course VAT. The car still shows up on Gov website on the original registration number as not being taxed or MOT'd and therefore still currently listed. I am surprised by your video that the 5% tax isn't payable on cars less than £100,000, I would also like to keep the original registration number.
I would like to know your thoughts on this, Great video and thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
