You are so welcome! I'm glad you noticed. I've seen it in other videos and found it to be very helpful. So, I decided to give it a try. Thank you for your feedback.
You’re such a good sewing teacher! I have a similar pattern with long sleeves that I will be making. This tutorial has been very helpful as a reminder of how to proceed. I am 76 so don’t do short sleeves anymore. Besides I want mine as a fall dress. Thanks for doing this video.
Thank you SO much for this step by step demo! You've already shown me where I keep making mistakes which don't give me a perfect finish. I almost skipped watching this video, because it looked "too long" to keep my attention given my ADD. Really glad that I didn't skip it - you had me focused from beginning to end. Love your style of presenting and clear explanations. The dress looks fabulous on you. :D
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for your feedback. I really tried to cut the video down to 45 minutes, but I didn't want to leave out any of the details since I made this for new beginners. I totally understand not wanting to watch a long video. But I'm so glad you were able to make it through the entire thing. And I'm so glad you picked up some tips to help you with your finishing.
Great tutorial. Lots of great tips. I really liked how you walked through the shoulder stabilization. I remember having tons of questions about that when I first started sewing.
Okay Anita I bought the pattern, so now I need to find fabric and the notions. I plan to make 3 versions. I will definitely send a pic when I complete it....Happy Sewing 💐💐💐
This is one of those patterns that it almost feels like stealing because you can make it so many times. Its so good, you can dress it up and dress it down just by changing the fabric and your accessories. Great video!
I had watched some of your videos about two years ago and loved you. Then I stopped sewing for awhile. Here I am back and amazed all over again at your lovely and infectious personality. You are a gem.
Sis.....let me tell you.....I have been stalking you this weekend and today at work.....just waiting for this video 😅😅....thank you so much!!! Love ya much ❤
Nice and I love the way you explain everything when I go out I am going to get the pattern and try this I haven't sewed in almost 2 years I have even forgot how to thread my machine.😂😂
What a great sew along! I really liked the suggestion to use interfacing to stabilize the hem! I will be using this on the dress that's on my sewing table right now! Thank you so much.
Hi Anita! It’s Teri here, the one with the bagging square neckband… so I put a couple small darts in the corners of the back band- not visible dt the fabric print-and that seemed to solve it. Then upon looking at the sleeve bands (I made the sleeveless version) they were baggy as well. I unpicked the bands then cut them off. I had not trimmed the 1/4 inch suggested if making the sleeveless view. I then decided to add the small cap sleeves. Problem solved! I believe my main issue is fit! I need to make a smaller size in the shoulders then do an FBA and grade out in the hips! The taking off of the seam and then adding seam allowance to stitch in the sleeves took away the extra fabric that was causing the bagging ! Now it actually fits! And I am glad I didn’t give up! Thx so much for your support ! Oh and btw , the black belt you wear in the video with the light blue colored dress ? I adore it! It looks great on you! It has silver Cs facing each other. I would love to get me one if you have the info on where you found it! Please and TY!!
Theresa!!! YES! I'm so glad you were able to solve the problem. Now I remember your last comment. I saw your dress on Instagram and I gasped. It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I'm so glad you didn't give up because that fabric is AMAZING. I purchased the belt from Kohl's, either last year or early this year.
Thank you so much for the informative video! Please can you do a video on making adjustments to the pattern? For instance, on this dress, the bodice front fit perfectly, but the back of the neckline gapes pretty dramatically. I would also like the bodice to be a bit longer, as this waistline is more of an empire on me, but I don't know how to make those changes.

You will do it, Pat! You will achieve your dream and make dresses again. I just know you will. I'm cheering for you. PLEASE, come back here and tell me after you make your first dress. I want to celebrate with you.
I enjoyed your video even though I have sewed for a million years. I found you because I searched for fabric stash storage. Seeing your sewing room grabbed me in! I have too much stash. I told myself no more fabric! I would feel right at home in your happy place!

I have this pattern so I’m glad I found you and your video. This looks fabulous on you. You are a wonderful teacher with your explanations. Thank you. Merry Christmas
Anita, You are such an elegant lady and one of the best teachers I've seen on You Tube. Your attention to detail and your sewing skills are just amazing. I've learned so much from watching your videos I bet your beginner sewing school is incredible as well. I purchased the same iron you have and I remember sending you a message asking you about it...i saw you use it in one of your videos and it looked so good I thought I may get one but wanted to ask you about it and knew you'd be truthful. I have to say I absolutely love it and bought it on your recommendation. I can't imagine sewing without it. Thank you so much for the time you put in to these tutorials. Your clothing makes are so professional and you just look beautiful in them.
Hi Anita. I just watched this video and I have to say that dress really suits you. You should know that I really get a lot of good and new ideas on how to sew and get other methods of doing things. Thank you so much for all your videos and I'm guaranteed to see all the ones I have not seen yet. God bless you.
Quick Tip: Use the "Time Stamps" in the description box to jump ahead to parts of the video that you want to watch. To clear up any confusion about the stitch that I'm using in this sew-along: I am using a narrow zig zag stitch (not a straight stitch). I share in the beginning of the video the stitch length and width. Always use a zig zag or stretch stitch when sewing with knit fabrics. Now let's get to sewing this cute maxi dress. 💕
Thank you soooooo much. I love the knit fabrics but I’ve always been afraid to try sewing with it. I bought some beautiful knit fabric years ago and never done anything with it. Your video is long but definitely needed as you go through every possible step, well done, I’m now going to get my pattern and try it out, I’m sure if I take my time and use your sewing tricks (like holding your threads at the beginning and back stitching a little back from the end) I’ll get it done. Thank you 🙏
Hi Linda! You're very welcome. I know, it's always a toss up between making along video and including all the steps or making it shorter and leaving some things out. I do both on the channel, but I really wanted to make this one very detailed since it's for my new beginners. Yes, many people are intimidated by knit fabrics. You can do it. Have fun making your dress.
@@AnitabyDesign thank you and I’d much prefer a longer video than to be left wondering if I was doing it correctly. I love watching your videos first, then playing it step by step when following your instructions…. So yes please, longer videos to keep us right! x
Your dress complements your figure beautifully. You are absolutely gorgeous & the sew of this dress is impeccable. Excellent instructor, I will definitely be watching your videos to improve my sewing talent. Thank you 😊
Like the pattern you've chosen. I can't wear long dresses because they emphasize my shirt and stubby size. I would love to get back to wearing more dresses since I've gravitated towards slacks and tops in a recent years. I'm 72 years old so I find it difficult to choose a good pattern that will suit me.
Beautiful Anita. I’ve been doing other things for a long time but I watched this video and loved it so much I think I’ll start sewing again. Thankyou for the inspiration I needed. Can I please ask how you serged around the pickets after toy sewed up the side seams? You didn’t show this step on the video. Thankyou ❤️
Hi Rosaria! Wow! That's a great compliment. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and are inspired to start swing again. I did not serge around the pockets because I didn't want to add extra bulk because my fabric is so thin. I did mention that in the video too. But if you want to serge your pockets, just start at the top and serge around and taper off before you meet the side seam. Or you can clip the pocket seam allowance just before the side seam, and serge of that end. I hope that helps.
Great video Anita - you are a great teacher with a lovely speaking voice, such a pleasure to listen too! A question : I have been taught always to stay stitch necklines but - unless I missed it! - I don’t think you suggested that? 😀🇬🇧
Hi Moira! Yes, you are correct. Stabilizing the necklines to prevent stretching because the fabric is cut on the bias is recommended. I. don't always do it on knits that have great recovery because I don't worry about them stretching out of shape. And sometimes I forget. But it is ALWAYS good practice to stay stitch.
Please do a little fashion show of all the beautiful pieces you've sewn for your closet over the years. Then you can link the ones you have tutorials for!
Awwww, Amy! The problem with that is I don't have all the pieces I've made. I've given away the majority of them. But I'll be sure to continue do fashion shows moving forward.
@@AnitabyDesign Well, darn. But alternatively, please keep doing the "What I sewed this year series. Maybe just include the pictures. A fashion show of stills will work, too!
Hi Anita! 🙋🏾♀️ Loved the tutorial. So many tips to make my sewing a little easier. I really like this dress pattern. Looks beautiful on you. I am interested in purchasing your t-shirt. It wouldn't let me click on the link to order.
Great sewalong!! One question I have is actually about the pattern sizing. Did you find that you had to go down a size for this dress or was it pretty true to your size measurements? Your dress fits you so perfectly!!
Hi Becky! That's one think I forgot to mention. I cut a size 12, which is usually the size I cut for this dress style when working with knits. I did not have to make any adjustments, which made me very happy.
Hi I am new to your channel, but I love ❤️ what and how you are showing and doing this work. Thank you so much I am writing from Monrovia Liberia, West Africa
Oh my goodness, Amanda! I am so happy to have you visit with me and glad to hear that you are enjoying the channel. Thank you for stopping by. I'm happy to have you here.
how much I have learned with this tutorial! Thank you a bunch for your time! I like the pins you are using with the knit fabric and see how easy they go through. Can you share the information of them? i would like to see if I can get them in Amazon. May God keep blessing you!
Hi Anita. I love this pattern but could it be made without the front seam as I have a lovely polkadot fabric and I think a seam at the front would spoil it. Thank you.
Anita, you are delightful! Wonderful sew along. Enen though I've been sewing for years, I always learn something new from your tutorials. Love the "stay tape" . I've always used clear elastic on shoulders seams for knit fabric but the stay tape looks much easier to work with. I'll have to add that to my Arsenal. Also, I noticed your pressing station isn't a tradition ironing board. And it's definitely more dense or harder which results is a crisper finish. What are you using for the pressing surface? I love your Rowenta steam system. My experience with Rowenta traditional home irons, they all leak sooner or later. I will guess since the water tank is separate from the iron with your system, it prevents the leaking issue. Thanks for all you do ❤ Little Stitchy
Hey Tonya! I'm actually using a regular ironing board. Unfortunately, my Rowenta Steam Station succumbed to user error. I didn't clean the calcium area often enough and the knob got stuck to where I couldn't remove it. There's no replacement knob so now I'm using a gravity feed iron. It gets the job done, but I liked the steam station much better.
Your tutorials are THE best! Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us here on You Tube. I have a question about sizing when working with knits. Accordingly to the pattern sizing on the package I would be a size 12. Do you usually size down when working with knits? Last time I made a knit dress is was quite baggy and I’ve heard it is good to size down so you have negative ease. I would love your suggestions about this.
I always choose my patterns based on the finished measurements. With knit garments, if I want a snug fit, I choose a size that will give me negative ease.
Anita you are so cute that came out so beautiful I will have to try this thank you for the nice pace and very detailed instructions just two question I would like to raise the neck line how would I do that and two are we using a stretch stitch though out the project? 👍💕
Hi Rosa. It would be kind of hard to tell you how to raise the neckline without demonstrating it. I believe there are videos on TH-cam that show how to raise a neckline. Check it out. I'm using a narrow zig zag stitch.

Hi Anita! 🙋🏾♀️
Loved the tutorial. So many tips to make my sewing a little easier. I really like this dress pattern. Looks beautiful on you. I am interested in purchasing your t-shirt. It wouldn't let me click on the link to order.
Thank you Pammi. I don't know why you weren't able to click the link. I'll check it out. Here's the link: anita-by-design.myshopify.com
You're very welcome. I'm using ball point straight pins.
Hi Anita. I love this pattern but could it be made without the front seam as I have a lovely polkadot fabric and I think a seam at the front would spoil it. Thank you.
Hi Elizabeth! Yes, absolutely! You will remove 5/8" from center front edge of pattern and place it on the fold of the fabric.
Thanks for all you do ❤
Little Stitchy
This helped me so much, thank you
You're welcome!
