I was Royal Signals attached to Scots Guards and took part in the attack on Tumbledown. The tune brings a tear to my eye as I think of the events that took place and the guys that never came back, or came back wounded in body and mind. But one of my memories is the Pipe Major composing the music, using cardboard from ration packs to record the music. Sadly he died a number of years ago but left us with awesome music.

I had the plaesure of playing in the Tattoo in 2007. I too lost friend on Tumbledown Mountain. Tears were in my eyes as well, PM Lauder played this piece straight from his heart. Will never forget it.

He was playing for his fallen mates with a tear in his eye. God wouldn't allow him to miss a note, even though no one would fault him if he did.

I am so envious! As a less than average piper and a "Yank" at that, I can only wish. On another personal note, for those of us that got tears in our eyes listening to this version of "Crags of Tumbledown" know why. Not love of country or heritage, but for the sacrifice and the determination of the Scots Guards, the Royal Engineers and other forces involved in that assult. There was alot of regimental pride and honor in those tears in P/M Lauder's eyes. Our tears honor their sacrifice!

When I first came to America, I met a couple by the pool at the apartment building. Hearing my accent he told me a story. As a young man in Korea he together with his platoon were stood down from the ridge they were guarding awaiting an attack. A regiment of Scottish infantry took over that night as he lay in his pup tent he heard the pipes for the first time. He told me the atmosphere that night was one of the pipes overwhelmed the Chinese bugles which had caused him so much anxiety. A stranger in a strange land I felt proud to be a Scot.

Crags of Tumbledown, very nice tune, written right after the battle in our Islas Malvinas. RESPECT to the fallen, from both sides. HONOR AL VALOR EN COMBATE

Thanks for posting this, I had not seen the DVD from 2007 yet. "Crags of Tumbledown" has a special place in my heart both to play and hear, because of a dear friend that was on Tumbledown during the assault and lost his best friend. To hear it played slow like a lament brought tears to my eyes as it did P/M Lauder. One of the finest contemporary marches written for the pipes! I thank you P/M James Riddell for such a wonderful tune, may it always inspire the memory of what was done that night!

Good! As a 40+ year advanced amateur Highland piper I'll say that you might be standing graveside in a snowstorm with nobody but the gravedigger and preacher, or perhaps at a large family gathering when a mother jumps forward to lower her son's cremation remains by her own 2 hands into his grave, while you have to play your pipes like a professional when you want to fall down sobbing with everyone else. This instrument comes with some sobering duty with no other sound to hide behind.

It is easier to say than to play....took me ages to play it like that :) was worth all the effort in the end though.

Would somebody please tell the announcer to keep his mouth SHUT! We want to hear the music, not his self-important ramble. Thanks very much.
