Beside making me pulse, it made me fall in love with bagpipes. I still consider being present at that very tattoo one of the most magic experiences in my life. And consider that a quater of a century has passed.
on this year was the parade of 10,000 pipers that started on the castle and down princess street .I was at this tattoo and will never forget it it was Wonderfull
What an absolute honour it must of been for those pipers from overseas to be playing with the Pipes and drums of seven Scottish Regiments of the British Army at Edinburgh Castle. It don't come better than that.
I had the pleasure of being a part of the later evening audience that year! I love watching this to remember my special experience. 19 year old on a college trip to Great Britain and our group for to go to Edinburgh for a weekend trip. It was amazing and this was probably the biggest highlight. Agree with another's comment that I wish we could see it without the commentary.
I must say that out of all the tattoo videos that I have watched on TH-cam I would have say that this one ranks in the Top 3. It's one of my life goals to play the pipes and play them pretty good. Good enough that if I were to come to Scotland to visit, pick up some pipes, and the 'ole Scotsman in his thick Scottish accent goes, oy laddie where yer from? Oh ,sir I'm from Indiana USA. And he would end up saying, "not too shabby for a yank".
Come and have a go then. Scotland's door is always open. But I must warn you that playing the pipes is not something that is learnt in in a day, a week or even a year. To get to the standards that you're seeing in this video takes a lifetime. It's like going to Japan and learning to become a ninja, it takes years and it takes dedication. I'm speaking as a native Scot who's been playing for 30+ years. But if you want to do do it then Scotland is the place you need to be in. We never invented piping but we sure as hell perfected it.
@@sebastianbarahona8116 it’s Pipe Major. Not mayor....Gavin Stoddart MBE. His father was also Pipe Major many years before him. Back during the early years of the Edinburgh Tattoo.
@@ScottyBugler2005 He was promoted to substantive Major rank. He was also a Pipe Major. Pipe Major does not automatically mean they hold the rank of Major.
@@macs7641 I know. I was pointing out to Sebastian that it’s Major not Mayor. It’s like someone I know in a band I was in a while ago keeps calling the Lord Mayors Show in London, the Lord Majors Show.
This was the very first Edinburgh Tattoo I ever went to see. Loved it.
God Almighty....that's bloody brilliant. I've been a piper for nearly 50 years and this still makes my pulse race!
Good. It could make anybody's pulse go crazy.
