    The fact that Under Night insane-title Extremely:Anime is on this list was a total surprise to me. I only know it for the sheer volume of different meters and mechanics at play.
    EDIT: Another great thing about SF6 is that its movelist screen gives a summary of what different moves are good for! This is great for new players, because it helps them understand what each move might be used for, and *also* gets them in the mindset of actively choosing which attacks to use.

      funny enough it was the game that taught me everything i now know about fighting games, and i have a few comments on it. The tutorial is amazing, and genuinely even if you play nothing else but that, you will learn so much about fighting games in general that you'll be able to pick up any other game more easily. It goes extremely in depth to even some advanced topics that most players won't use in their usual games, but the knowledge and practice is there if you want it. HOWEVER, UNICLR (Under Night In-birth [EXE]..) is a complicated game with long combos. But just because the peak of a game is complicated, doesn't mean you have to start off that way. Start simple and have fun.

      the funny thing about anime games is that, despite how insanely complex and unwieldy they can be, anime games are often WAY easier to get into from a "beginner who has never played FGs" perspective than they get credit for. Tutorials are often text dumps, but they're nice and deep and go through everything from basic movement to deep mechanics, and chain/gatling combos are a little easier on a beginner's brain than links. Plus, a lot of them have an autocombo system now. When playing between two total beginners completely new to the genre, they are VERY mash friendly, and once you get into them, they can become unbelievably deep.

    I honestly don't think the difficulty of the game matters too much, if you have the right mind-set(being ready to lose and focusing on growth instead of just winning), friends to learn with, and it needs to have an active playerbase so you can find people around your skill level to play with

      I started playing tekken 7 some years ago and now reached raijin, you just have to keep on playing, learning and most importantly having fun. There's no game that can prepare you to fighting games, if you want to practice I'm sure that the game you like has a practice mode

    This was a great video. Really like the conclusion you game. I don't think fighting games have yet to fully embrace how cool they are beyond the fighting from a gameplay perspective.

      Thank you!! I watched your samsho video after I made this and I’d really like to give it a go, you made a good case for it as a fighting game for beginners. That series also has a lot of coolness that it could take greater advantage of - look at the success of Ghost of Tsushima. There’s always an appetite for cool samurai stuff!

      If anything I think the opposite, games are so wrapped in how cool they think they are that even getting in and playing it takes an age, the online experience for gg strive, tekken 8 from the looks of it and many other arc sys games coming out are horrible, you spend so much time in mini game menus instead of actually playing the game. Just give us a simple lobby like fightcade or +R

    My little brother has kicked my butt at games like Tekken, Street Fighter, and Smash Bros for years, being a better game learner. It was the same even after I got into the rabbit hole starting with Core-A Gaming. However, it was Fantasy Strike that gave me confidence in my grasp of the basics. I'm the token FS lover.

    Most of the time, I’d say it is best for beginners to pickup a fighting game right when it’s new and just released. Because overtime, the player count will become less and less and people will fight against veterans or experienced players. But that’s just my take

    12:00 I'm glad you mentioned this because I feel like this is a topic often overlooked when talking about getting into fighting games. This is why I'm so excited that Project L (an upcoming F2P fighting game) will have a heavy emphasis on duo play. It's a 2v2 character game, so in duos each player takes control of a character. I think this will go a long way to getting more people into these games. Also fun modes like SF6's Extreme Battle mode and single player modes like World Tour help greatly as well. Cheers man, hope you enjoy your fighting game journey.

    like the video and am pleasently suprised undernight is on this list. i started playing fgs in early 2021 and found a guilty gear xrd community who taught me, that game might be one of the worst beginner Fgs but even then you can push through with friends. I tried Uni sadly had noone in europe to play it with (european scene seemed incredibly deadge at the time) so i mostly used it for the combo trials and tutorial, Uni helped me specificaly learn motion inputs since it is fairly strict with them (still only to a reasonable degree) and some combos require you to do them in very fast intervals.

    Tbh I totally understand, and the ending was a beautiful finish and relatable because i used to be ass at fighting games… but then my friend had found out i had dragon ball fighterz, and we would play that game almost everyday, and me being a human, eventually was able to learn things and adapt to the losing streaks, and eventually from playing long enough, i learned how to genuinely play fighting games and i now feel confident enough to hop on ranked matches in almost all foghting games (never tekken tho cuz that game is crazy 💀)

    I feel like Skullgirls is actually a really good introductory game. It has the complexity to be good for more than baby's-first-fighter, but has good tools for actually getting new players to engage with those systems when they might not be familiar with them yet.

    Akatsuki Blitzkampf I feel is the best at being a simple fighting game without sacrificing what makes fighting games fun. The controls are super simple (it only has quarter circle and down down motions), there are only 3 buttons, the parry is a 2 button input instead of a flick of the stick, and there is a character named Fritz who basically functions like a samsho character.
    Though the asthetic of the game may put people off, it's only an asthetic like with Parasoul from SG.

    • @frumiousgaming

      Hmm Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll have a look into that!

    Duels of Fortune is also a good one. Although there's not really a tutorial, it's still basic enough where me and my sister were able to fight on equal ground, and she never plays fighting games lol.
    The game does have motion inputs but they're basic enough as in the sense that they're a single direction plus A button type inputs, which makes it easy to pick up as right off the bat.
    (Edit: I forgot that there are combo trials, but they just tell you what button inputs to do without really explaining much in the beginning.)

  • @basicweeb4272
    @basicweeb4272 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Motion inputs can seem a little daunting at first but just keep practicing them in matches and they'll eventually become second nature. If you really feel like you're struggling just spending a couple minutes in training mode practicing your motions before you play can help you pick it up a lot easier. Also under night really is a fantastic game for beginners. The tutorial covers not only the basics for under night itself but also the actual tactics and strategies that are universal to all fighting games. Just don't expect to be able to absorb all that knowledge at once. Chain shift/vorpal is also a fantastic mechanic for beginners because it gets you into the mindset of really thinking about how to beat what your opponent is doing instead of just autopiloting the thing that usually works.

    phantom breaker omnia is a pretty simple fighting game, with auto combos and 1 button specials. almost every modern asw game, dbfz, gbvsr, strive, bbtag, are made to be a lot easier to pick up and play, with less hard to pull off strings.
    I honestly think that learning fg difficulty is kind of exaggerated most of the time. With the exception of learning to beat strong players, and some more complex strings, that arent always even necessary. most fgs can be learned just by playing and enjoying, and does get easier if you have some skill transfer from other game. actually just picking up and play a game, and figuring out a few mechanics, on the go, etc isnt too hard

    I really find 2d fighting games journeys to be interesting, i started with blazblue cross tag battle, it was hard, i was trying to make combos, but i wasnt playing for fun, then tried dragon ball fighterz, trained a ton and learned how to hit mid air, the thing i learned is that i should’nt just train in those games and instead be playing for fun, later when i decided to do that, that’s when i got really into this genre and now trying to play more and more games, heck, now every fighting game i once hated, i love, except for the games that play like undernight or blazblue, cuz i realised that mashy buttons+technical moves like db fighterz, skullgirls, dead or alive, are my thing and not complete technical moves games, really feels like an anime training arc really

    A big part is getting onto a fighting game as they release, I'd recommend at launch Dragon Ball FighterZ since it's such a recognisable series but that game is getting older and although there is most likely an active playerbase in your area, everyone is just too good now if you're getting into it late unless you wanna put serious time into getting better. DBFZ just one example of that happening though, which is why the popular fighting games like SF or MK are safe to start off with.

    • @frumiousgaming
      @frumiousgaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I have seen that advice a lot, like you say I think it applies more with some games than others, and also if you have a friend or two starting out with you then it’s less of an issue because you can play with them. I’m planning to make a video about this at some point!

    I know most people say the opposite and how it's the hardest fighting game but I honestly think Third Strike is a really good game for people who are new to fighting games. the game is fun, the pace is good and even when you lose the parry mechanic makes it easier to see where you could've done better. I always loved fighting games but was never any good at them but in lock-down i decided to grind on Fightcade and learned so many things one by one like playing neutral, what attacks link, whiff punishing, meter management, parrying and etc. Now i still wouldn't even call myself a good third strike player (still stuck in C rank) but feel like i can pick up most 2d fighting games and at the very least understand whats going on thanks to the foundation i built in third strike.

      It’s easy to learn enough to start having fun, in my opinion. But the game has a lot of depth that I haven’t got close to touching. But I haven’t spent long enough trying to learn it really tbh. It also depends on how you like to learn- I think if you got involved with the under night community (eg on discord) the best way to learn would be with help from more experienced players.

    My face when seeing uni in the thumbnail. Dawg that shit is NOT EASY. That tutorial is good but hawt damn does this shit have so many different fkn mechanics I’ve never seen in any fighting game.
    3 movement options, 4 gauges, one that’s literally hidden, your D button does like, 20 different things idk, each fighter plays way differently from each other, when people say “oh it feels like each character is playing an entirely different game” the only time I’ve felt that from a fighter is from uni.
