I picked up a '64 Ken Boyer in 2023, finally. Growing up, the story of his world series homer over his brother's head, that year, was one of my favorite baseball moments. 😂
@@revanchist5596 that’s awesome! I’m still waiting on mine to arrive. Such a great story and a great moment in Cardinals history. I appreciate you watching.

@@scootscollectibles thank you! I love finding a deal, especially on cards that I would want at some point anyway. Same here, can’t wait to see your pickups this year!
Awesome list, Joe! I hope I'm with you when you pick a bunch of them up! We have a lot of overlap on our target lists, so we may have to do some break dance fights!😂😂
Great plan! I like the “find a deal” approach. Sometimes targeting a specific card too closely can consume more hobby dollars than necessary. I’ve also focused on the gas house gang a little bit lately. Best of luck in 2025!
@@RustyVintageCards thank you! This approach works well enough for me and a big part is so I don’t get tunnel vision and overpay too much. The Gas House Gang has been something I’ve toyed with for a long time and now I’m all in. Thanks for watching.
Great plan on the cards. I’ve tried to develop tiers, but they fluctuated too much and as a pen and paper guy, it got messy😂. So, I have everything broken down into player runs, HOF runs, and then just the cards I want. Having such a broad range doesn’t make me feel as though I HAVE to buy a particular card. I too, like the Diamond Stars set and have begun a HOF run on them. Absolutely one of my favorite sets. Thanks for the video and thanks for sharing! I’m really looking forward to seeing the progress.
@@JayAvgVintageCollector thanks Jay! I’m just hoping to give myself a little more structure and direction this year. I agree with your sentiments about a broad range, it gives more freedom and I don’t end up forcing a purchase to just meet a goal. I will definitely be adding some Diamond Stars this year. I appreciate you watching!
Joe! Nice want list and goals. I don’t recall hearing any Reds cards in there but that’s cool 😆. Also, I hope the camp trip gets cancelled so you can come to Strongsville! Take care, buddy!
The Gas House Gang and October 1964 are both excellent books. I started reading a book on Cool Papa Bell this week. For Hornsby I picked his 1934 Batter Up card because it was much cheaper than his Cardinals cards available at the time. It’s a Browns card, so it’s still a St. Louis card. Another card recommendation in line with the Gas House Gang is the 1935 Goudey 4 in 1 that has both Dean and Frisch on it. It was cheaper than their individual cards and I was able to check both of those Cardinals Hall of Famers with 1 card.
@@jon-eriksuermann I think after 1964 I’m going to read the new Larry Doby book, but I may add Cool Papa Bell to the future reads list. I’m familiar with the Hornsby Stand up and it’s definitely a possibility. It’s a nice card! I’m also looking at the different Goudey 4 in 1 cards and it’s a safe bet I will be adding them at some point. As always, I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Gave a video like. I am very much in the same boat. Since I cast a wide net with what I collect, it is easier for me to find deals on cards I want. Hard to save up for higher priced cards though. I do pretty well outside of combined shipping. It gets me all the time, lol. I'm trying to convince myself to stay focused for say the first ten months of the year, then reward yourself the last two months after you've accomplished a bunch of what you wanted to accomplish. I'm hoping that will work! Time will tell, lol. Enjoyed the episode, thanks for sharing.
@@Hodges1455 thanks Brian! Combined shipping is a trap. I like the idea of rewarding myself for staying focused, I may steal that idea. I appreciate you watching.
I didn’t collect for over 30 years and started collecting again after reading Glory of Their Times a little over a year ago. Decided to use the PSA set list to keep the focus manageable. I’ve also been collecting the player autographs and even got a copy of the original audio on a record (it appears there are two versions of covers of the record).
@@FromVAtoLA that’s awesome! The book is such a great read and I have listened to some excerpts of the original audio. Such a powerful connection to days gone by. Hi Joe. I am currently half way through, Glory of Their Times, and just love it. My thoughts are similar to yours, about possibly getting a card of each player from that book. Still working on my Jackie's, so it won't happen this year. You got a lot of awesome cards on your list, will love to see what you can pick up this year. Thanks for sharing my friend, talk soon pal.
I've heard a lot about those books and am afraid (or excited) I would start expanding my want list too much! I like the idea of tiers and levels of want lists and think for mine, I haven't don't that yet and maybe over the next few weeks I'll actually make a list of cards (and grades) that are more of a priority vs. not. Happy New Year!
@@TonyTalksCards the books are absolute musts in my opinion, but I understand the idea of over expanding. That ship has sailed for me, I’m all over the place! The goal tiers are an attempt to bring at least some focus to my collection. Thanks for watching. Happy New Year!
