My birthday present to myself this year is a reading marathon inspired by your last one. Having multiple children, I even rented a one bedroom apartment where I will stay for the duration of the marathon. Really looking forward to it. Thank you for the video, it's a good way to get excited about mine.
I really love the way both of you get along. I wish I had a friend like that, who would be into books and wouldn't mind reading together over video calls.
When you were reading Room With A View with the sound of the traffic and in the dusk,I imagined myself back in Italy, but the motorbike was too loud to resemble a Vespa.I hope you and Carolyn get to see Italy some day!❤️
@@emmiereads So many books. I have some that are dark twisty romances, I have some more literary/contemporary/philosophical books, and I have some mystery/thrillers. And no I don't know what I'm in the mood for.
So exciting to see what you read and to hear a few excerpts. That makes the book "come alive" when we hear the author's words directly. I applaud how far you got and your dedication with very few distractions! I need to try this as well! Thanks, Emma and may you have a special time of sleep tonight to celebrate your readathon!!!!!!
girl i just had a lightbulb moment, i feel like your voice would be amazing for like audio books or like reading books on youtube for your viewers, i dont know, i just fell like your voice is so soothing you could like make a series where you read books.
I liked your reaction to 'A Room with a View' so much I watched it twice!! I re-watched the movie recently, which I hadn't seen in many years, and loved it even more.
i followed along on instagram and was so excited to see you were making this video! congrats on finishing another--what a great bonding activity for you and Carolyn (maybe a little bit from the shared exhaustion lol). and a great way to catch up on any reading goals! as always, i'm impressed by your reading stamina and general love for books. and Calcifer is ADORABLE ps. LOL "how do i hold books in a most clickable manner" just became very relatable for me... creating content is weird sometimes!!
Now I need to reread A Room With A View… I fell in love with it when I read it for the first time last year! It really surprised me since it‘s such a short and unassuming book but I would keep thinking about it no matter how much time passed! Really glad you enjoyed it so much ❤️
I did have a good time, and Calcifer looks great. For Tolstoy, I remember enjoying Strider, which certainly Caroline will adore, and Diary of a Madman, which if you're writing you'll understand. There's another one, too, but the name is playing hide and go seek with me. Really looking forward to the next live show. Thx
The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea is actually next on my TBR. What you said about it kind of made me think of A Clockwork Orange, it'll be interesting to see if that comparison holds up. Also Calcifer's little cameos are the best! His little meows in the background are the cutest. 😻
Persuasion is such a good novel to read following A Room With A View! They have a similar agony/yearning/living life as you should vs how you want vibe, and both with beautiful prose
The summer book is my favorite of all time and I think you would love it. It has Janssons beautiful and whimsical descriptions and the relationship between Sofia and her grandmother is just so sweet. READ IT!!!!
What a nice moment with you and Carolyn ! The moment you read again some passages of a room with a view !!! Waouh you were so passionate and it was really moving ! Thanks for sharing your love of reading and inspire us ! 💚📚 Sylvette (from France : sorry if i have made mistakes in english ;)
emma you should have gone with the lady of the camellias! it's full on devastation! and also amazing also i'm currently reading a room with a view and i'm sooo into it! one of my friends is obsessed with mishima, well, my entire friend group is and i hav not read a single book by him, that book was described as ''amazing'' by one of them soooo i'm intrigued also next time you both do a readathon you should do some live reading sprints
Since you loved Butterfly Valley I think you would also like Sway by Tricia Johnson! I'm reading it on netgalley, it's all about the joy and sweet solitude of summer, the crisp excitement of autumn and in general about the very human connection of the author with nature💚
Brandon Sanderson is amazing! I started with the Mistborn trilogy and am now reading The Stormlight Archives and easily one of the best fantasy books I’ve ever read.
By contrast I failed to finish my reading goal for the day yesterday - which was less than forty pages - because I fell asleep with the book in my hands. I would fail so miserably at a 24 hour readathon 😂
oh, no!! maybe you are being a bit hard on yourself? these gals do this for a living... it's literally their job to read. maybe you are comparing apples to oranges?
@@emmiereads I read Artemis by Andy Weir, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by Ian Fleming, No Thoroughfare by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins, and got partway through The Hobbit on audiobook. 😁
Loved A Room With A View, including the film adaptation, which was so well done. I want to be George and want to know Lucy. Also love Mr. Emerson, and have come to find sympathy and humor in the feckless Cecil--he's a loveable prig, esp. as played by D.D. Lewis.
Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy is superb and would likely fit your mood for agony. There is also Snow Country Yasunari Kawabata or Snow Falling On Cedars by David Guterson. A butt is a small barrel. On wooden ships, a water butt was provided for the sailors on deck. They'd gather there and gossip, and officers mistrusted their talk and worried they were plotting to scuttle the vessel. Hence, scuttlebutt, which is akin to gossip at the water cooler among office workers.
"We did it!" is from the song they sing at the end of each Dora episode, and I'm guessing you heard "What's the scuttlebutt?" from The Office. Michael and Dwight both say it at different times.
Hey Emmie, love your readathons!! 🥰 I listened to Skyward on audible too and despised Spensa, but by the end I kind of thought you aren't exactly meant to like her (in the beginning) as she is going through a lot of growth throughout the series!
I don't remember where I heard or read this but I think the scuttlebutt is a navy term for water fountain which is where sailors would gather and chat hence the term "what's the scuttlebutt" I could be wrong though
Just wondering how you do it!!😉Would love to know what you learned from that class that instructed how to get the most out of a reading book. PS Room With A View has a film with some gorgeous English and Italian scenery.
Calcifier is getting SO big already! You can tell by his paws he’s going to be a fine, robust gentleman 🎩
Life goal: to have a friend who’ll read for 24 hours with me
Let's be friends then :D
Definitely! 😊📚📚🫖🫖

I’ve read for 6-8 hours straight but I’ve never tried something like this. I don’t think I could do it 😅
makes it so much easier if they're ones you really want to get to!! also starting with a short one helps :)
girlll why do i see you EVERYWHERE 😭
Love you and our silly readathons so much!!! Can’t wait for many more! 💕

I loved that you have Carolyn, just working away in the background. Ha! Your guys' read-a-thons are the best!
✨Been waiting for this! Cannot believe you and Carolyn did another one so darn QUICKLY! Such a TREAT! 🌙💜
we have such a good time haha, so glad you liked it!!
Perfect timing. Maybe this will inspire me to get over my decision fatigue and just read.
ooh what are we deliberating on

right? I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did:')
My ADHD could never. Bless you both for doing the lord’s work✨
Samee
same. my adhd doesn't even let me keep a tbr 😖
When I take my meds and put on ear deffenders I can read for hours. Without it, I can read 5-10min before I’m doing something else 😅
Same!! Ive been wanting to do a 12 hour readathon forever, but everytime i plan on doing so, my adhd decides against it, haha
Try audiobooks!
The Summer Book and Gitanjali are both wonderful!
These kind of videos are so fun!! Off to watch Carolyn’s now

I'm reading the summer book and it is so good, it is so much deeper than it may appear on the frist glance.
These book quotes are intriguing
i really enjoy wilde's writing and it's been recommended to me to leave de profundis to the end!
that's what I was thinking too - still have a few more of his to get through!!
Omg. I really wish you could let us join next time. This looks so fun!!! 🤭
