Big thumbs up, thanks for reviewing this. Edit: If you're having trouble with the NB4 firmware update and the firmware is very old, an update might not be possible. I went through this. I had to do something that was more like a full OS install instead of an update (I forget what it was actually called) which did the trick but the downside is you lose everything in the model memory.
@RoadsideRC priority is for when you have the gyro set to alter throttle channel as well as steering. I am fairly certain the advanced menu is available on nb4+ and nb4+ pro model only. This combo really makes the baja 5b easier to drive. Good to see it drifts well also.
currently use this on both my RC drift comp cars .. i built 2 cars both with BREVEd as ESC and this specific sly sky combo.. is some what similar to the futaba 550 but with a little less options .. still great if you wanna learn how to tune your Gyro but with out too much hussle
Been using this pretty much since they released it. People that tried my car say that the gyro is better than everything else except the 550 because of tailslide setting. Keep in mind that for some weird reason, the endpoint setting will affect gyro gain. What I mean exactly is : if you have a programable servo and program the throw in the servo versus setting the endpoint in the transmitter will feel like you changed the gain. You used WAY to much priority, for me gyro gain is set to 60-70 with a priority set at 4-12, the more gain the more priority. (As said previously, gain is affected by endpoint so my gain setting might not work with your setup). Added wire is to monitor battery voltage, it should be plugged directly to positive and last port on transmitter. Good work on the video as usual !
Priority is the equivalent to tails slide in the futaba.. the more prior the more "flicky" it feels.. if you add prior.. then also add gyro.. to get those crazy flicks at speed and get the controllability that you want.. the ESP mode makes the car CRAB walk way more.. it basically makes the car go forward .."sideways" is super weird and not intuitive.. also try adding some steering gain up to 20%
Priority is the key. Before use it i feel my car switchback so slow. Add priority around 30% feel soo much fast. I dont feel steering gain feel much different? What is it use for?
@@Rayradityaa steering gain is still gyro gain.. like on a regular gyro setting the higher the more assist you get.. most gyros have 2 settings a negative and a positive, the negative usually means low assist gyro and the positive means high assist, in the case of futaba 550 you have gyro and AVCS and according to the manual each mode works differently depending on your driving style.. LSS. try turning you steering gain all they way to zero and see if that the gyro setting i think it is actually
consider also that this combo reduces weight and allows for more fine tunning directly on the remote screen just like the futbaa 550 with the wireless link attachment.. in short, less parts more fine tunning at a much lower price.
I put one in my Omni terminator. It’s awesome. You can start a slide and it will correct and put the truck up on 2 wheels and hold it for several feet. It’s wild.
Flysky noble might be the best transmitter out there right now with the only one having the feature to add a sim rig to the remote and drive the rc car
Troy, excellent content! I've been using the RC8X over the last year on all my rigs and although the gyro function is doable, I have not been over the top happy with it (especially with smaller vehicles like the Grom). I've had my eye on the NB4 for some time and I think your review may have just convinced me that I need one! Keep up the great work and thank you for taking the time to review this set up.
Awesome! Glad to hear this was helpful. Not 100% sure this is the type of gyro you will want for something like a Grom - but really curious what your take on it will be!
@@RoadsideRC If I pull the trigger on the NB4+ the first car I will use the INR4 on will be my Infraction but I don't see why it wouldn't work on a small scale rig like the Grom (I have the Mojave and the NASCAR). If i end up trying out on either one I will certainly report back to you with my take.
Love these receivers. Glad to see your review. I didn’t see where you but the svc into rwd drift mode though. Try playing with the throttle gain a little too. It definitely makes beginner drifting easier.
Hello, Im using this receiver gyro and works well on my rc drift. My question if i upgrade to yokomo v4 is it significant difference? Because i feel a little slow on my kit. I dont know its about gyro or my chassis setup.
Hi there! Honestly - I don't really like the Yokomo V4, so would not suggest swapping to it. Different gyros give a different feel. My personal favorite is the Futaba GYD550, and I do think it is an upgrade compared to this gyro: alnk.to/7qlcUUs
what body mounts are you using on your chassis there? I could use some for my RDS and future projects. Also how inexpensive is this radio and receiver/gyro combo?
Hi there! The body mounts are some that I designed and 3D printed to work just for this body. The RDS chassis comes with standard body mounts in the box. Here is a link for the radio: alnk.to/1N2SFzT and for the specific receiver: alnk.to/gVM31K4
trying to revive my rc hobby, just barely dipping my toes into rc drift. am running the x6fg that you reviewed a couple yrs back. how does that compare? is it still capable/relevant?
Hi there! I would never suggest folks run the X6FG as a gyro. It works, but a proper drift gyro is DRAMATICALLY better. This receiver is also much better - but you would need a full radio upgrade to make this work. This wouldn't work with a DumboRC controller.
@ @ so how do I use a v4 through this I just don’t want to use the solo reciver the noble comes with right now . Then after I get the v4to work how do I dip into those setting then?
I have a flysky gt5 for my 4ws crawlers and the bs6 flysky receiver also has a built in gyro. I'm currently just getting into drifting, but I've had great success with that receiver and it's built in gyro on my arrma vendetta when the spektrum electronics crapped out. Have only drifted with it a few times so I'm can't really give you a good review on it yet, just an idea if you have a gt5 laying around.
I hated this set up in my car. For some reason I couldn’t get that damn thing to work well, I kept spinning out and my car was very unstable… I switched back to my MGX gyro and I was able to link my track just fine. I tried gain all the way from 0-100 and priority 0-100… nothing worked. I even let some of the pros at my track take my rig around and they all said it drove fine, but they really had to concentrate to get around the track. Everyone for the first few min with my car kept crashing. I’m not sure if it’s the firmware version I’m using or what else but I used it for 3 weeks and was completely frustrated with it. I wonder if it could be my servo , or something else… I guess it doesn’t matter now since iv moved on to different set ip
Interesting! I do wonder if proper end point setup is really important with this - just like in a regular gyro. From my testing, I can 100% say I would rather have this than the MGX. But - it all comes down to personal preference and driving style. So what works for me, will not work for 100% of folks!
@ I switched to a Yokomo servo re did my endpoints about 100 times, centered, calibrated , tuned shocks, changed rear springs , tried high traction wheels nothing worked lol
UPDATE: the Fly sky seems to not be able to handle "spicy" tunes" i have 2 of this gyros. one of them is not giving issues yet, but i tried al ittle bit of hiogh boost and the car twitches when reaching 100% turbo.. we tried a better cap on the ESc and a cavalier.. the issue persists.. we are still looking into the problem
last comment I promise!! so if you want a more European style and stable angle drift then make the car more stable.. that includes weight distribution / FDR / gyro settings.. is you want a more Japanese style then get more unstable and make the gyro "catch" you right before over rotating..it makes for a more aggressive flick.. also counts as style point!!.. there are 2 other people that i know are ditching their old gyros and going slysky. me included.. my teammate and i went to SDC 2024 and he was rocking this gyro already.. my SDC car for this year has this gyro in it and it drives amazing!!, yes, you do need the firmware update to use the advanced settings!!! FYI!!
Thanks again! I had someone tell me it was harder to get the firmware update on the older radios (which mine is very old). At some point, I may pick up a newer NB4+ to help unlock some of the advanced features.
Hello friend, i have to ask im using Inr4gyb with my rd2.0 and i can drive smooth but if my friend drive Japanese style aggressive flick i cant drive like that using this gyro. I have try that setting like priority, gain etc but if i have big angle like reversed entry style my car rotate and cant control. But if i try my friend car using gyd550 its very stable and hard to rotate even using very big angle My question is. Is it worth if i change my gyro to revox or v4 or even gyd550 for more stable and aggressive style driving. Or something wrong with ny setup? Honesty this one is my first gyro in rc drift car so i cant compare it with other gyro
@RoadsideRC if i buy gyd550 first can i use with nb4? Is it gyd550 still better without futaba transmitter compare inr gyb or better i buy v4? I need your suggestion. Thanks friend
