    Hey Justin, can you test out how the USB C ports work for USB C devices that don't use power delivery? Typically, those devices won't charge with a C to C cable, and you'd need a USB A to USB C cable to get them to charge.

    • @markgreen6437
      @markgreen6437 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It charges with usbc to usb c - that’s how I charge mine

    • @freemandrew
      @freemandrew 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's technically not a PD thing. Devices that only charge via A->C cables are missing a $0.001 resistor in the USB-C connector. Sometimes you can add the missing resistor yourself if you have the requisite soldering skills. For a lot of cheap USB-C gadgets, there's usually enough room to make it work.
      Thankfully my nu25 works with C-C cables. I have to assume the nu20 does as well.

    I like the idea of a rechargeable headlamp for convenience, weight savings, and simplicity. However, the fact that the battery is built in also means that the end of the battery life is the end of the product life.

    That NU20 Classic is definitely an improvement. I ended up buying the old NU25 even though the new one was out, they totally dropped the ball on that one imo.

    I still have mixed feelings on my new NU20. Used it for a bunch of night hiking and I find the beam a little narrow. The high mode, which I hardly use, dims to medium in a minute or so. So, it behaves like a two level lamp with two turbo modes. Battery life is much shorter than my old NU25 too. I like the form factor, USB-C, and the indicators. For most of my hiking it’s just fine. Great vid!

    How long does the 20k powerbank take to charge up from 0%->100% with an 60W wall charger? I mean the powerbank can handle 18W input. For outdoor a fast charging time of the powerbank is important because you charge it mostly in cafes and restaurants.

    I've been using the Nightcore Thumb all summer for backpacking and rural living at night. It's perfect if you're a hat wearing type of person, as it's a hat clip on light. Rechargeable, 3 power modes, with 20 hour+ runtime on low. Low is what I use most, because it's 2 lumen, so not high enough to attract bugs, but plenty for visibility and long runtime.

      Looks to be very similar, but some of the internals other than USB-C seem to be different. While the onld NU25 and NU20 Classic have the same lumens, the beam intensity is about double on the classic (so 108 vs 81 beam distance). The battery on the NU25 is bigger, which explains the longer battery life (160hrs vs 97hrs in 1 lumen white light mode). Better battery level indicator on the NU20 classic too.

I also have the 2021 1P version, and with its updated material, it has never sagged when wet unlike my BA Copper Spur (which I also love, but it sags bad when wet). It’s good to see that the 2P (which I also own) is starting to adopt a few more of the features/style I’ve been loving in the 1P version.

    That NU20 Classic is interesting, might be the solution I'm looking for. Does the light operate while charging from a power bank for extended night hiking? I'm thinking the HubbaHubba might use Sil-Nylon to avoid the weight penalty of Sil-Poly, there's so much competition in tent weight these days that the performance tradeoff might be worth it since few people actually go out in the rain (unless they live in the PNW like us crazy folks). It's good to see Cascade Designs leveraging their brands so that their 2P tents can handle two of their sleeping pads, reducing friction on purchasing a new, wider pad by having a tent that can hold it all. I'm looking to possibly giving that rain hoody a test; it's similar to the OR jacket with the long pit zips that essentially create a sleeved poncho, but it is completely waterproof, which I prefer because I can layer under it to manage wetness and warmth.
