    The first thing you have to watch after Hot Fuzz... Is Hot Fuzz again. There are so many hidden jokes, to the point that just about every line of dialog is a setup for a joke later in the movie.
    This is one of the best written films ever made.
    Also, take a look at the making of. It's a short film here on YT, which makes you realise what a truly gifted cast and crew can do with almost no money or time.

    So one thing to note in regards to the 'Cornetto Trilogy' is the sliding scale of gore to action. Shaun of the Dead is a gory film with minimal action set pieces while Worlds End is almost completely void of gore while the most action packed, Hot Fuzz sits in the middle with a mixture of both.

  • @lyletuck
    @lyletuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The actor who plays Danny's dad is Jim Broadbent, and he's magnificent in a number of roles in highly regarded films and shows. He was Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge!, Slughorn in the Harry Potter films, and an Archmaester in S7 of Game of Thrones. He's a gem.

    @rory_pond1701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    Yes, Mary, please react to The World's End! It's nothing like the previous two Cornetto films, but that's part of the charm of the series; you never get the same movie twice.

    • @frag2k12
      @frag2k12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would disagree with it being nothing like the other 2, it continues and finalises the rock-paper-scissors relationship between Frosts and Peggs character of each one having an Man Child, average and Successful/capable role, the scales of gore to action both sliding to the other side of the scale from Shaun (lots of gore, little action), to WE (lots of action, little gore), but I can agree with the idea of them not being the same type of movie at least in genres.

    After the trilogy, you should definitely watch "Paul", it's quite funny, though the humor is a bit dumbed down, and that to me is what makes it so great! Its like a fourth film genre, the "take successful British thing, and make a watered down Hollywood adaptation" genre! In that sense, "Paul" becomes an ironic, essential part of the cornetto trilogy.

    There's pub in Wells (Sandford) which has a signed flak-jacket from Simon Pegg on the wall plus the tourist info used to give out flyers with little maps of 'Sandford', showing the filming locations. The thing about this movie is most of the characters have accents that are local to me - so I always wonder how easily other people can follow along with the dialogue and slang.
    For example, I can understand the older policeman's dialogue quite well (less so the old farmer - but that's because he's playing it for jokes by mumbling the words).
    Though for reference, I don't have a strong West Country accent. Its just I grew up with it around me. My accent is, apparently "posh" - at least by local standards. I probably sound like a farmer to anyone from London.

    I love how the recurring joke about the fence, from Shaun of the Dead. So many nods to the 80's action movies, Norris Avenue, Chuck Norris, How Skinner is dealt with, Edward Woodward from the wicker man film is the head of a cult.. theres a lot of hidden dialogue in the layby, at the fair its very quiet but look at the roasting pig scene nd listen closely, Nicolas's number is 777, not the number of the beast but the number of "heaven"?, the Throwing the can was from Crocodile Dundee. i can spend hours pointing out a lot of the tiny details, nd still miss loads, the Music that Simon Skinner plays in his care Romeo and Juliet by the car in the layby, the Crzy world of Arthur brown and Fire, after the explosion

    The next one to watch is "Paul", which is the unofficial 4th film in the Cornetto series. It's insanely funny and also stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost - this time as British sci-fi geeks who visit Comic-Con and other locations and.... accidentally run into a real alien. :)

    So many movie allusions. You could write an encyclopaedia of the references. And then also the various British comedy series (including those with lots of English double entendre) plus a few references to horror. Like the allusions to The Omen with the steeple scene.
