    I have to say, this channel is totally not what I expected, having seen it on TikTok. This is so much more calm, informative and scientifically accurate than my biases would have assumed! I love seeing eel cared for like this, and--coming from an area where sturgeon are a point of pride for us, it's very nice to see them actually thriving in proper water conditions for the first time on TH-cam! You're awesome, keep it chill and keep it coming.

    • @echofoxtrot2.051
      @echofoxtrot2.051 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not biased. The channel name is unusual and you probably saw short clips. That doesn't make you biased. You just had to adjust your expectations. 😊

    That's what you're missing in your pond a tire and a shopping cart to make it even more realistic. 😂 And yeah that's how the rivers look like around here in IN. Awesome video today.

    I just want to say that the videos of your fish make my days so much better. They calm me down when I'm overwhelmed. My jam is plants and insects, and I haven't given fish as much thought. But I have become fascinated by these dudes because of you.

    Chilling in a shallow and dark eel pot must be one of the best feelings. Just being alone with a dim light looking at your little creatures swimming around looks like one hell of an experience 👍

    Get a few jingle bells to tie to a string. They will make a distinctive noise when jostled underwater. Drop them in and jangle them just before you drop pellets in/hand feed, and they'll learn to associate the sound with feeding time. You'll see distinctive behavior changes associated with the noise after a couple of weeks, at most.

    White cloud Mountain minnows would be a cool schooling fish to add. They can tolerate cold water but i think the eels might munch them

    Did they originally use the cistern for drinking water or to water the garden during droughts? I think what you’re doing is so cool, keep it up! My buddy growing up found a spring fed fountain at one of his neighbors house, offered to clean it up and he stocked it with all the trophy fish he caught fishing the local creeks. The more I think about it, I’m surprised a Herron never found it

  • @Helveteshit

    Build a Floating platform for your chair. Attach Purple Growlights (above water) but aimed downwards. Maybe add a bit of a 'root' mass below the platform, so when you lower the platform, it is always resting on the rock with blunt ends. To avoid crushing something. Let that area be a bit of an 'algae' grow area that can be nipped at, by the koi etc. While also keep everything else clean and fresh.
    Beyond that, I agree that you don't need a lot of water depth more than the fish grow and demand it. You don't want them jumping anyhow (Which require deeper waters). However, maybe add a few platforms on the wall side with moss and ferns or similar. Just to improve air quality overall.

    I think people understand that in the biotope there isnt any aquatic plants but you know that there are trees and brush alongside the river filtering nitrates out of the water and thats why people are telling you to plant some plants, dont use aquatic plants if it could hurt the fish but surely you could put a couple of planters down there in the water and plant some monstera, peace lillies, and pothos above the water to help with filtrations that way your underwater biotope remains unchanged and you have the benefit of natural filtration via nitrate removal.
