Impressive, really shocked how fast that kayak was propelled. That mount is sick. I like how the rudder slides within itself. Could use that gudgeon mount regardless for even a regular rudder.
The rudder is definitely cool. Caught my eye immediately at Surf Expo 2018. It is very smooth to operate. I own several mounts. I keep thinking I have found my favorite mount then they come out with another I like even more! Can't go wrong with this company. Phenomenal product. Easy setup, affordable parts that are easy to get if you ever break something like a propeller or really anything. Well worth the money. Less money than competitor products in the motorized kayak world.
Killer video. Like the new mount. I like how you can pull it up out of the water for beach launch/land. Never seen a rudder design like that. very cool.
It is a very convenient design and easy to operate. The motor can be lifted out of water and dropped back in via this genius rudder design. Really enjoying it.
Thank you so much for this. This has to be the best motor mount video I have seen(I have watched so many). Straight forward and a newbie like myself can follow the directions.
Love the video justin, fixing to start putting a little back every week to get one, was waiting to see if it was compatible with most kayaks ,looked real easy to pull up out the water with the rope and loved how easy it was to install
I first bought the swimjet scuba edition handheld Bixpy about a year ago or so. I fell in love with that setup and was impressed with the battery life and power. I then got a kit for my Viking ProFish Reload Kayak. Since then I have maybe 4 of their mounts. This one and the Paddleboard fin mount are my favorites for paddlecrafts. I love how easily this rudder mount lifts out of the water via uphaul cord for transport/launches/beaching. The hand steering is fun to play with as well. I'm split between the hand steering and foot steering option. Not sure which i like better. Bixpy is by far the most fun watersports product I have owned....that is the big reason why you have likely seen several videos on it via my channel. I used to use homemade trolling motors setups, but they were bulky/heavy and got a bit annoying to transport. It is pricey, but it is the best all around motor solution out in my opinion. Less money than Torqeedo and Scubajet too. Anyway....thanks for stopping by the channel. Have few more videos (non-Bixpy related) coming soon. :)
Total weight is around 9 to 10lbs. That includes the motor, battery, and universal rudder mount. They make foot steering and hand steering kits. When I mount it on my inflatable paddleboard the total weight of the board and motor was only 32lbs total! I freaking love this little motor. Small in size but big in business.

Great vid! Looks like they have a Black Friday deal still going on for free adapter with purchase of motor/battery kit. Might be my Christmas present to myself. LOL Bet it would fly with my longer touring kayaks.
Great video that was well made and very informative. Love the shot at the beginning and end with the speed test in the kayak. The music however was a bit much. Of course because of the music being likely without restrictions and free to use, it isn't gonna be the best music out there and a chart topper. I understand that. But the specific choice from the start when you pulled up the garage door was pretty repetitive overall and it just kept going. Maybe switch songs more often? Just a suggestion. Oh and also the volume was balanced much louder than your spoken parts, and I'm not even sure how anyone would edit that but just thought I'd give you a heads up as to how I experienced it. Overall great video 👍🏻
Even 1-2 years later I read posts and try to take to heart constructive criticism. I have learned to tone down the music a bit and make it truly background music. Only use music for Timelapse's and drone shots.
Looks like a good idea but the video frame rate was too fast (there may be a way to slow it down, I'm not sure), and the music was distracting. Also for the price of the Bixpy battery and motor kit you can buy a Pelican Bass raider AND a trolling motor.
Just some copyright free music from TH-cam audio library. I don’t have the Final Cut Pro project folder anymore so I myself am having trouble remembering what one it is.
Thanks for the video. How is the steering compared to other steering systems on pedal kayaks? I have a Pescador Pilot 12 and the steering is horrible! Possibly looking to change out the steering system with a system that is much easier to use.
Jerry Krabe it is ok but I wouldn’t swap it for the Bixpy one. Have you made sure to tighten steering lines? The Bixpy hand held steering mechanism has a click ratchet like feel which helps hold the powerful motor in place you set. Thus, it might not be ideal for every kayak situation. It is designed to hold steering position despite the high thrust of the motor. Not sure if that makes sense...
@@KayakDIY yep makes sense. Yeah I've checked it out pretty throughouly. I actually reached out to Perception and after exchanging a lit of pics, videos and information they're actually going to warranty my boat. Thanks for the info tho! Hope you and your family are doing well.
Adventure Outdoors no but they have a few Hobie specific mounts that I have seen which seem to perform very well. The new Outback can use the Bixpy Slipstream Mount via power pole stern mount. Buddy Aliex used it on his 2019 Outback and seems to love it.
That bixpy flies on that kayak. Did you ever measure the mph? Ive used mine a few times and it doesnt go as fast but then again I have a tandem usually with 2 people and Ill tow a friend lol. I love it. Its a great investment.
It was 6mph+. I don’t recall exact but I was reaching 6.x mph. Bixpy on that kayak was a freaking blast. Felt like I was in a water go-cart! I buzzed all over our canal system.
@@ChristianLanctot I have a vibe yellowfin130t. Its a tandem that can be converted to solo. Its a excellent kayak. Everything on backorder i waited 1 month for mine. Actually evoke kayaks I have seen and tested have been made very well and felt VERY durable. I was really impressed with this kayak. The quality to me is right up there with the best. I would rate Old Town as gold standard 10/10 for quality build. Evoke and Lightning Kayaks are 9/10. I actually would put Hobie 8-9/10. Nucanoe I would rate 8/10. FeelFree I would rate 6/10. Native I would rate 9/10. Ocean kayak would be 9.5/10. Bonafide would be 9/10. Pelican would be 5/10. Brooklyn Kayak company 4/10. Ascend would be 4/10. Lifetime would be 3/10. Uncharted Watercraft would be 2/10. I’m still deciding what the worst of all time kayak would be.
@@KayakDIY I'm still looking for something lightweight but paddles and fishes great. I have a Crescent Crew and it is built like a tank. Just gets heavy to transport sometimes.
How many pounds of thrust does this out out. I have an Aire Traveler inflatable canoe that I’m going to make a frame for something like this. Most small units like this have way more power than I need.
Most states you need to register any floating craft with a motor. To register a kayak you need to get the Manufacturer’s Certificate Of Origin. Any manufacturer of kayak can send you one if you provide them with the hull ID number usually stamped on the stern. Provide this certificate to DMV at time of registration. Registering a kayak is cheap and pretty easy.
The motor has had zero issues. No saltwater corrosion. No malfunctions. I rinse it off if I remember, but that is infrequent. If you live in a super high weedy area they recently came up with a “better” weed guard. All parts for the motor are super affordable and reasonably priced in my opinion.
Cool video I may consider doing this on my Old Town Trip Angler DLX. I already have the Bixpy on my bigger sit on top and I want to go lighter. Do you think it would work on the Old Town? Thanks!
Another question if you get this comment. Is it possible once installed that you can remove part of the rudder with the motor attached for storage of the kayak, or do you have to take the motor itself off each time. Thanks Justin :)
Yes, many times. So I screwed multiple long magnets to a board with a rope. I then drag it across grass and can find them quick. I learned that trick from a roofing company.
Turns great. Can get a pretty sharp turn radius. Bixpy makes a hand steering kit and a foot pedal steering kit. You can also typically rig it to work with OEM factory pedals if your kayak has them. I absolutely love the universal rudder kit though. That sliding up-haul feature is slick. I like how the rudder slides up into itself and lifts the motor out of the water. Yet, when the rudder is in the water the reverse propulsion doesn't lift the rudder out of the water....it stays locked. Definitely a cool design.
They aren’t cheap but they are cheaper than Torqeedo and few other brands that make kayak motor kits. I simply like how versatile they are. I like that I can use the same motor for scuba diving, my kayak, and my paddleboards.
I'm looking for two of the same electric trolling motor, and try hooking up dually power , with steering wheel, or a single front trolling motor powered, with steering wheel? Don't know how the hill turn out but I got two kyaks, so we will sed
Nice setup! However looking at prices for each of the components, it will cost you $271.99 plus tax & shipping, and that's just the kit you installed (less motor kit). I like the Bixpy Motor, it has many applications. I don't have the "coin" for the motor setup. Maybe you can ask them if they would donate a few (2-3) so you could have a "Give-away" from your channel (hint, hint)??
The more people share these videos and promote them the more opportunities I have to do things like that. I definitely could do a few giveaways if these Bixpy related videos get more views. If viewers help me share the videos I think we could easily see several giveaways next year. Just comes down to video views.
Yes I could have. You could have had the common knowledge to know that any lightweight lithium based motor with wireless remote isn’t going to be at Walmart in clearance isle. This motor is sealed unlike trolling motors which can become junk if you flip your kayak. This battery floats. This motor kit has a wireless speed controller. Not sure what price you thought it would be. We live in a world where phones cost $1000+ and a tiny GoPro is $400. This motor kit has way more to it and you are surprised it costs $1000?

WOW! That yak really moves. You even created a pretty substantial wake behind you.
It shocked me how fast it moved. I felt almost like I had a gas outboard on back...not a little electric motor. That little 10ft kayak really hauled!
