  • In today's video I'll show you how I made my ball mill at home with cheap materials that suppose to be thrown away, in my case that was air conditioning fan that had a broken propeler. I absolutely love to make stuff like this with materials that are useles in one way but in other are worth a fortune. All materials I used in this video to make this Ball mill I found at home, but If you don't have them all they are not that expensive, except a fan I don't recommend buying a new fan for these purposes, try finding online some old and broken fan but make sure all the wires are ok before you plug it in outlet. Best thing to do in that situation is to go to your local electrician and check with him, or just look for a fan that's still working but someone don't need it anymore. Also I want to thank to each one of my subscribers that helped me grow channel big of 7000 people that suport it, so THANK YOU!
    And I hope this video will help you in making your first Ball mill at home. See you guys on the next video. Peace.
    Thank you for watching this video!

    I know this is 2 years old, but PLEASE do not use steel balls in a black powder mill. They could spark and ignite/blow up the powder. I have seen lead balls used. I am not sure about the glass marbles.
    Great videos! I love your work.

    try using brass ball bearings instead, not so prone to damage as the glass marbles are and its the only truly spark-free metal. If replicating this build, you might want to put a long wire between the fan motor and the control unit so you can use the controls from a distance. The controls can generate sparks and you want to have those as far away as possible.

    Since it is a fan motor, does the rod spin too fast? I want the jar to spin slower than regular fan speed but is it enough to just put the balls in there so the weight of the jar slows it down?

    • @MakeAndDestroyFireworks
      @MakeAndDestroyFireworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use some fisics to slow it down. If your jar is bigger and the rod thinner you'll have slower transmission

    it is a lot of help from your side i made this ball mill for about 20 minutes and also from fan but i have broken electrict chain saw maybe i repair this and in the future i made a ball mill from this chain saw i think it is more efficient
    what are you think about this?

    • @MakeAndDestroyFireworks
      @MakeAndDestroyFireworks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That will probably work also, just check performances of that motor on long milling time, will it overheat.

    can I use this improvised ball mill to powder wood?? should I pound the wood before putting it in ball mill?? please notice this. I badly need this for research. thank you.

    • @MakeAndDestroyFireworks

      I use sawdust for making charcoal, but you can put your charred wood pieces in "heavy duty" plastic bag and carefully hit with round rock so the bag doesn't get ripped. Then just sift fine particles using dust mask.

      I could use ordinary marbles as a replacement for the steel balls right? is the outcome the same or is the steel ball preferable ?? thank you so much. laboratories turned their backs on us that's why my team are rushing. thank you for your feedback

      could I also use this ball mill to synthesize nanocrystalline?

    • @goodmaro
      @goodmaro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hiichanistheloml4201 The denser the media, the better. Glass marbles always crack after some use, leaving fragments of glass in your product. Ceramic marbles tend to spark, but even glass isn't spark-proof, with electrostatic polarization between the medium and the jar material. Brass is pretty good, but is attacked by nitrate if you're milling BP, and contaminates your product with zinc. Lead is traditional, but soft enough that it will contaminate your product with toxic powder. Antimony-hardened lead, as in shot, is better. Stainless steel isn't so stainless against nitrate, and also sparks.

      I've found it somewhere around my house, try with handle from those spider-web swipers, those fluffy things used to clean spider-web. Maybe you could find other plastic poles similar to this. I hope this helps.

    My ball mill is Evan cheaper and easier to make! It’s a motor three weels a peace of
    Plywood and and a thick paper barrel! Also get sum more media! You use way to much dextrin in ur bp. Only one to two percent is needed when you mill the dextrin with the bp. I don’t even use dextrin I just use alcohol, to dissolve the left over rosin in the charcoal but great video! I know what I’m talkin about look at the bp on my TH-cam channel 😉

      Maybe you can get one from junkyard or smth like that. But don't use it until electrician looks it up to assure it's performance.

    Too many RPM’s

    • @goodmaro
      @goodmaro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I don't think so. Lloyd Sponenburgh says 100 RPM or more is good. You can use lower RPM if your jar has baffles to pick up the media so they get partway up the wall and crash down onto the pile. He says that action, rather than rolling, grinding by the media is what gets good results in a short period of milling.
