    I think it might be a good idea to use powder snow to kill the magma cubes, leaving a 1 block tall space so that the magma cubes take damage until they are small and the frog can eat them, so that you don't have to kill the magma cubes yourself

    My experience with the AI has been that each frog gets "full" after eating a few slimes/magma cubes so having several frogs around to keep up with the spawning is preferable. I would be surprised if that was different on Java.
    I like the dripstone suggestions in the comments and I'll have to try that. What I was doing was using sweet berry plants raised 1 or 2 blocks so only the large and medium cubes could reach them and the small cubes would be safe and they would be left over for the frogs to eat.
    As for getting frogs into the Nether just build a nether portal inside the frog farm for each biome (cold/dry/normal). If they aren't too far apart in the main world, the portals should all exit from the same initial portal that was created in the nether. Frogs will happily jump into portals on their own. Then the new supply of frogs simply has to be transported to the magma cube farm.

    • @Missingno_Miner
      @Missingno_Miner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, you'll probably want a frog of each type at least, so don't think that's a huge deal.

    • @NyoomMonster
      @NyoomMonster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea the transport system you mentioned was my idea too, which I commented on another TH-camr's video.
      I also like the berry bush idea and look forward to trying it.
      This will be really fun to work on with the Create mod installed, so I can have frog trains and drain the lava in the Nether. Also, building the farms above the Nether ceiling in the Basalt Delta biome may be better if you want to build a farm there.

    what if you had two chambers. One to make the big ones small, and once they get small, they'd fall into a hole that only the small ones could fit. That way you could stand above and hit the magma cubes without a risk of hitting the frog. Maybe a checkered floor with 1x1 holes ( if that makes sense). and then the bottom chamber would just be the frogs running around freely in a box with the small magma cubes.

      sorry i didn't read your post. - GMTA - - only issue with sutch idea might be that some of the small cubes may be killed on top of the cacti.

    • @CieJe.Alexander
      @CieJe.Alexander 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds good but, how about a checkered "floor" of _open_ (fireproof) warped wood fence gates to fall through? With the frogs waiting below? Or else a nether portal to the over world frog farm below?

    • @Borupster
      @Borupster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe a secondary iron golem to pull the smaller cubes down the rest of the way?

    • @nerdjournal
      @nerdjournal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does water hurt magma cubes similar to blazes and how water can cause big slimes to break by drowning?? Maybe send the magma through a portal? And see what water does to them on the other side.. and it would make dealing with frogs probably easier.. But it's not exactly going to be a one man farm unless you have 2 accounts or a server. :[

    Could you make the hole to the lure only large enough for the small magma cubes? You then cut the magma cubes down until they jump down and then the frogs can run around free below

  • @edwinv.u1674
    @edwinv.u1674 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Dear @wattles,
    I think you should combine the 2 ideas.
    what would happen if you use a spawner with a cactus checkersboard. patern. build a room with your hoppers and frogs. above it build a floating checkerboard catus .. where the bigger magmacubes can only fall through the 1x1 holes towards the frogs after the cactus hurt them enought. - this will probably not entirely withouth loss but it would be automatic without the need for a killing floar, the rist of hurting your frogs etc.
    so to make it work (read as a scema)
    the magmacube spanner.
    some room for your magmacubes to fall on top of the cacti. at least 4 blocks above the cacti.
    1 block high cactus will be enought however you may need 3 to preven growth from messing up your farm.
    you need sand to place cacti on the checkerboard
    a checkerboard with slabs to place the sand on
    room for the fogs at least 3 high
    a floor with hoppers,

  • @timhyatt9185
    @timhyatt9185 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    could you use a "grid-layer" above the floor with the frog in a minecart level.
    build a alternating floor of empty spaces, with ssome builder block, chessboard style.....
    then put dripstone points on each of the blocks....the slimes hop down and around until they're small enough they fall thru to the layer with the frog, who converts them to froglights....
    Think it would work?

  • @MattyRocco

    I'm thinking similar golum cactus trap to your second design but with no hoppers on the surface. Put a one block perimeter between the cactus and the bassalt. Make a room directly underneath the cactus and place a frog in it with hopper floors. This would allow only the smallest cubes to fall down, hopefully before they die. It would also make a small enough space where the frog won't have the whole targeting delay that you saw in the first farm.

    Medium MC's have a width of 1.02 - meaning they cannot fit through a 1 block gap.
    Thus, you can surround your iron golem lure with cacti every other block and create a damaging screen that only the small slimes can pass (though many will die on the way).
    That way they automatically shrink and sort themselves on the way to your hungry frogs. You could even set blocks between the cacti up two to auto break them when they grow their 3rd section, making your farm collect cacti, magma cream, and froglights.

    • @nerdjournal

      I wonder if water would cause the big magma's to break it hurts blazes and drowning causes big slimes to break.. Portaling to a water funnel system that drops them in a frog farm would work great.

  • @lostupidovillico1233
    @lostupidovillico1233 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    In the first design you can put a "gate" of cactus separated by one block and one block tall and stop the growth with a block so medium cubes can be lured by the golem but can't fit in the grid holes (hitbox height 1.0404) and in the collection area you can funnel the small slimes in a square of minecart and that's 👌....for the second you can put a dropping trench around the cactus one block wide so the small cubes can be dropped below (width 1.02) and then you can get the first killing area and replicate there

  • @SmartassX1
    @SmartassX1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd make a big flat platform into the basalt delta and lure them all to the middle where I'd have a pit with like 4 nether portals. Meanwhile in the overworld, there would be only 1 portal and all the magmas would fall into some pit that has like some fence gates, or something that make sure that only the small magmas fall all the way down to where I'd have frogs above hoppers. And I'd get rid of the bigger magmas somehow. Like have there be balconies with iron golems, who keep punching them. And maybe a village around the whole thing, to produce more iron golems. And the whole thing would have to be at the center of the map, so that the area would remain loaded while I'm busy shoving more magmas into the portals.

    There's a way to disable the magma cube spawner, so you can use it only when you want to. It's about placing blocks in specific spots right above the spawner. Google and the wikia have pictures to show how it's done. I've done it in my world and it worked, no more magma cubes as long as those blocks remain there.

  • @chrisrelhard
    @chrisrelhard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    like someone else commented, i made an experimental farm making a layer of powder snow and an empty block beneath so you get all small magma cubes automatically. in addition, i did a layer of open trap doors underneath so that small magma cubes dropped down a bit further. this not only gets them well out of the spawn area, but also makes sure your frogs are safe from the powder snow. (i got paranoid after seeing small magma cubes occasionally jumping high enough and frequently enough to take the single tick of damage from the powder snow and dying)
    now that i think about it, i set it up with a spawner but since it's a pit you could totally make one just in the middle of the basalt deltas with a lure above it like your second design.

  • @yourimaginaryfriendElEighty
    @yourimaginaryfriendElEighty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Wattles, these are neat designs. Have you considered making a 2 chamber system for the magma cubes? have a golem attract the big cubes into a room with holes in the floor. The big cubes will not be able to fall through the holes, but the smaller cubes will. The chamber below that can contain your frogs and hoppers. The frogs can roam free with the tiny magma cubes which will be a digestible size. You are basically creating a filtration system.

  • @windywendi
    @windywendi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's the thing: because of the way that spawners work, you only need to fill in the space one block above the spawner for magma cubes to stop spawning. You just need a 3x3 grid of 9 solid blocks, with a 2-block gap between adjacent blocks. Hopefully this will work on bedrock :)

  • @xpackers1162
    @xpackers1162 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the problem with the froglights landing on the trapdoors, what you could do is install pistons in the back with a lever/button so that the item drops down into the hoppers and is picked up. Love your vids!
    Edit: Another thing, instead of manually killing the magma cubes to get them small, maybe make another iron golem that kill the big ones when they jump but is too high up to hit the small ones.

    Another easy way to transport a frog (The white one in warm biomes) is get a bucket of tadpole and make 1x1 whole and place the tadpole in the nether, the water will evaporate, then just spam feed the tadpole seaweed (as of now) and it will grow into a normal frog and thats it…

    Maybe raise the cactus up a block so the cubes will still hit it when they jump, but the frog lights will be too low to hit it. Take a look at Rays Works' frog light farm. You don't need an iron golem (unless you want one). He uses powdered snow to kill the large and medium sized magma cubes by putting the powdered snow one block above the floor under the spawner. The magma cubes don't care about the frogs and the frogs just jump around and fall through the powdered snow without taking damage. I made the farm in my Beta world in a Treasure Bastion too. I just put the frogs in the bottom of the spawning chamber with a hopper minecart running back and forth underneath the floor to a hopper pick-up system. I made "frog safe" Nether tunnels before moving the frogs. There is a lot of work before moving the frogs in and letting the farm run, but the farm is so fast. I cleared out all the Brutes and looted the Bastion first. Also, I play on Hard mode; but, to make the farm I just put it on Peaceful while I built the farm. It made life SOOOO much easier. (That won't be an option on a Java Hardcore world though.) I also found that moving the frogs into/through the Nether with leads was the fastest way. I have 5-6 frogs of each type in my farm. I was able to move up to 5 leashed frogs through the Nether tunnels at a time. It's a fully AKF farm. I can send you a copy of world or a screenshot of the farm. Just let me know if you are interested. But I highly recommend taking a look at Rays Works' farm first.

    To work around the lights getting stuck on the trapdoors, wouldnt a hopper minecart be able to grab them? This would mean youd need to do a expensive layed hopper sytem but it should work. Hoppers on bottom layer, then put hopper minecarts on the hoppers that will be under the trapdoors holding the frog carts in place. Then you could put a trapdoor on the block area a hopper minecart is, then the trapdoor holding the frog cart in place would go above that. Expensive but doable. Its basically 3 layers of hoppers but it should be efficient (no item loss).

    If you put the slab a block higher in design one, you can afk without having to worry about killing the little magma

  • @saratormenta4687
    @saratormenta4687 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can make a magma cube filter with a floor vertical thin blocks like chains or end rods, I think only the smallest ones would fit in between

      @saratormenta4687 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can also pair it with the powder snow idea, leaving a 1 block layer of air in between

    12:00 @wattles could have done a lead and one on each side of the wall so it can't move over the hoppers

    Put slabs above the hopper with a moving minecart with hopper under it

    With the basalt delta, you could have the cactus rasided up one more block. So the sand is one block higher than the hoppers then put your cactus on it. So the big cubes can hit the cactus but the smaller cubes have less of a chance to hit it giving the frogs more time to attack them?

    I'd just use a basalt biome in the nether. Magmacubes spawn exclusively there and they don't care about light levels. I recently built a house in one and there was no shortage of the cubes.

    Anyone else notice that the same day wattles drops a blaze farm, silent drops a froglight farm. And when wattles drops a froglight farm silent drops a blaze farm?

  • @eagledan1349
    @eagledan1349 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    One way you may disable that spawned is pour lava on it. Works for blaze spawnes and seemed to work on magma cube spawner (need to doublecheck tho).

    you can place a water down in s cauldron in the nether can u do the same with frogs bc then all u have to do is pick the water back up from the cauldron so then u dont need to move the frog with rails etc

    I was thinking, with the bastion design like, after setting the hoppers maybe pushing one block off the wall so you can fit the minecart with the frogs and the frog light doesn't get stuck. Dunno if that will work too.

    I was thinking the lure behind a portal to the overworld but make a box small enough that only small magma cubes can hop through it to a frog cage ... Would be easier than taking the frog to the nether.. or use powdered snow like the first comment said instead of using a small box in the nether

  • @ronnock101

    Will read through more comments later but wouldn't bringing the cubes to the overworld be easier? Was thinking bastion spawner but have portal to overworld to gather cubes then have piston crusher to reduce cubes size. Have drop zone surrounded by frogs and hoppers. Late game farm but clearing bastion typically is late game.

    question Wattles... for the cactus trap, if you raise your cactus up one block, could that reduce the amount of small magma cubes dying? The large ones should still hit the cactus right?

    What about dripstone spikes in the hole of design 1. Run a frog in a cart around the hole, place spikes in middle to kill larger slimes. No need to swing swords afk farm right there

    Wattles I have a video recommendation (You should build a ice castle on the mountain in the survival series or a treasure area near the floating ship.)
