I’m a 73 year-old female who is living in my car. I live in Washington state where in the last 10 years the home I had for 18 years went from $325,000 when I sold it to a million dollars. It’s not an uncommon story here. I’m not a drug addict or an alcoholic and my criminal history is spotless. I was a housewife for many years so my social security is not enough for rent and a small pension. I do food delivery which adds another $800 to my income. I’m not really that unhappy. I would love to have a place to live but I can stay in motels several days a month and I will be working with a housing coordinator who specializes in seniors. Thank you to the panel who are doing good work.
Hey hun I feel real bad for your situation but what about getting a couple of roommates so you know around your age or not and work it out that way so that you can have a place because everybody should have a place and I really feel for you, just a thought and good luck honey
May I suggest, a safe parking lot with dumpster & porta poddy & access to drinking water for those of us fortunate to have a vehicle to live in. We just need a place to legally sleep. Thank you
In Canada's Ottawa Capital, City Hall councillors are in cahoots with Land lords and developers!! Just a few days ago one of us froze to death right in front of City Hall! Corruption, greed, and indifference kills!
Homelessness is my cause of all causes. I live in Louisiana, we are hosting the Super Bowl, and let's not forget Mardis Gras. Our Gov. Jeff Landry has constructed a " hide-away" building to place those who have no home, out of sight of those able to pay 5000.00 Super Bowl tickets. I get enraged. This is life in America, 2025. I'm so sorry it would offend you to see this crisis, but can you imagine how sorrowerful it is to live it?
In my county alone in NE PA there are between 7,000 and 8,500 vacant housing units. Our housing authority is a huge vacant house being utilized as offices that sit empty most of the time. I keep heaing we should be building more when we dont even utilize and care for what we already have!

Nobody wants to resurrect the 80-100 year old houses that weren’t taken care of. My town got grants to tear a bunch down (a shame, I love old houses!) and in another section of town they are building and building new huge apartment complexes that are pricey to rent, and somehow they fill up as fast as they are built.
My daughter worked 3 full time jobs (one she could sleep while her client slept) and my income from disability to pay the rent while her don went to school. He is in college now, mt daughter and I live in our vehicles. She is wore out and I would have given up if not for God. I feal she & I deserve a safe place to sleep/shower/do laundry/clean out vehicle occasionally. Affordable car maintenance/repair. Affordable haircuts/shoes/clothes/personal hygene items ,/etc
Together we stand divided we fall that's what I say, if we the people are paying attention, we need to organize and fight back, the government should work for me, for us
Nobody wants to admit the US Currency is crashing. There has been no support demonstrated for the Currency, for 20 years. We are about out of excuses and the Currency Crisis will be announced shortly. The Blame for a lack of capital for Banks to expand any business, seems to rest with the last 5 Administrations and Congress. We may need to become involved in Democracy, to do something about policy being written by the Oligarchs. They simply assign their Good and Faithful Servants names, for the printers who prepare the Ballots.
And for mental health in Colorado Springs, u get many 2 sessions a month, less than 30 minutes with therapists that are out of touch , don't care because they are inherent done with internship hours, or are on their way out to better jobs, so we get used by that cycle, the job places don't pro actively assist with jobs, only alow u to use computers for job searching, and resumes, tho there's no stable grounds for actually bridging connections to employee life, so your on your own to search ghost jobs.
I kinda don't blame homeless for the disparity of being outside doing drugs to kill the pain of reality they are faced with, a broken system that dose not care, only to propaganda and act to public face that they care or help when in reality, more lists, more wasted time , years, health, so why no do anything and do drugs I don't blame them, plus why would a person go in a over packed shelter, risk theft, and being booted back out for a difference of verbal option towards volunteers, security or fake staff?! Avoid that be outdoors where it's safe enuff possibly safer from harm, theft, and stress of being boited out . I been there still am there, so ya.. I don't know about this world anymore.

Im 65. I NEVER got a job, apartment, or any help from any agency or govt entity, except food stamps and now Social Security. It took getting assaulted to get the SSI. Got a $25 COLA raise this year and EBT took half. Im not at all complaining. I just dont pin any hopes on any organization. I get things myself. Lots of times with help from individuals.

Yeah like colorado springs, where I live, there's no available housing, not even low income ( 1,400) month, over 2,000 people on ( lits) for housing and say like me, I only get 930 a month that's 10k a year, I don't even qualify for the ( 1,400) threshold, so I got laps in employment history, that's a hard one to fix, and as I see it I'm not the only person with these views, u get a job say Walmart full time that's many 1,300 a month, after taxes maby 800 a month, so I'm like why work if I'm getting more from disability, so I like maney feel glitches, soon these shelters say oh join our programs be forced religion classes, and free labor everyday do what we want, lead the herd on a string with a carrot, to get a job at the end of 2 years in programs, can't have no outside job complete relatable on the shelter, and if u mess up or relaps u get kicked out into general population or just the shelter itself, and if u don't find a strength camp area you'll get busted by police and ticked, with a crazy fine price tag, and go to jail cuz u can't pay, soo u get paroled back to that shut shelter, wash rinse repeat
The walmarts there are very dangerous. Platte and 8th street especially. Space Center is scary too. Springs has very limited jobs. Move out of there if you can.

I'm about to be homeless again because my wealthy slumlord is selling all their derelict properties for fortunes. Why aren't we talking about how when people come in from other states, pay cash for something locals can't afford, and never look at what the local market is charging, hiking up prices out of our budgets????
I'm sorry to learn that you are housing insecure. It's a horrible feeling. Sadly, more and more people are losing their homes and entering into homelessness as housing costs continue to skyrocket. It's a serious crisis. This podcast was really targeted to communication professionals. I don't believe there was "word salad" but because this is a niche conversation, I can see how you might think that. We have lots of other podcasts and videos that address what you're going through. Unlike our documentaries and first-person videos, our podcasts are produced most mostly for people working in the homeless sector.

Im 69 living in my car for 4 years due to 17 year career loss and apartment loss in 2020 during covid. College educated non drug or alcohol user. I get $25 in ebt food/month, am on senior housing wait list, and just follow weather to be able to do this.

Ive been off substances 38 years sone times if i need help i go to health agencies they help me out just knowing there there helps they help me only need to go there twice help with papers and list of dentist i get stuck. Sometime

We need a purpose and we need to see that life can be good again! When we have to put all of our energy into surviving everyday to acquire our basic human needs it makes it almost impossible to thrive at the same time! When we don't know where we're gonna be from day to day or if we'll be able to access a shower to be "presentable" (or frankly to not stink because we get pretty fragrant) it makes it again almost impossible to promise yourself and time and then even more bridges get burned.
Soon, trucks will drive themselves. They already are, but it hasn't had a significant effect - YET! Chipotle is testing a machine to make burritos. There is now a robot that cleans toilets. I was in an airport the other day and not only was there a robot sweeping the floor, one of the stores was completely clerk-less, as in no employees. Pasadena has the first fully autonomous restaurant with no employees. Robots can now do drywall and brick laying, and they will replace construction workers. I once thought the only vocation that would not be automated is caregiving. I was taking care of my mother at the time. Then I learned Japan has robots to help seniors. There is no job that will not be automated in the near future. In most fast food places, it's now kiosks instead of employees. So what happens when jobs disappear?
