Freddie was one of the best hunter chasers ever, and Arkle gave him 32lb and trounced him 15 lengths. A difference of 47lb at the weights.

@@beverleymorris167 would have been a race to savour had Arkle ever raced stablemate Flyingbolt...timeform only had a few lbs between them Ted Walsh openly states Flyingbolt achieved more in winning it's races.

@@pauladams1924 that's ted ..did he ever ride him in a race....no.
Pat taaffe rode both of them and mill House.
He said in his book , "Arkle with a bit in hand" due to his
      superior speed after the last
It probably would have ended same way as when mill House went a blistering pace in the Gallagher gold cup....then be done by the unbelievable finishing speed of Arkle. Taaffe actually said mill House was better than flyingbolt. Only the jockey truly knows 👍

@@beverleymorris167 Flyingbolt won Thyestes at Gowran off 12st, beating second a distance giving it 2 st. 7 weeks later returned to 2 miles and won Queen Mother champion chase, turned out the next day and under a poor ride finished close 3rd in champion hurdle...then barely 3 weeks later runs in Irish national off 12st 7 beating the placed horses that Arkle beat previous year giving them more weight. Flyingbolt would have beaten Arkle over 2 miles and it would have been the race of the ages to see them off levels over 3 miles. "Jockey Barry Brogan, who rode him to his final victory at Haydock, was Dreaper's assistant and stable amateur during the 1965-1966 season and had ridden both Arkle and Flyingbolt in their work. In his autobiography, he says:
"In my view Flyingbolt was probably the best horse I ever rode - even better than Arkle. I honestly believe that he would have beaten Arkle in the 1966 Gold Cup if Tom Dreaper had allowed him to run."
In a subsequent interview with the Racing Post in December 2008, more than 25 years after the publication of his autobiography, he re-affirmed his comments when he said, "For all Arkle's brilliance, I felt Flyingbolt was the better horse. If Pat Taaffe was alive, he'd tell you the same."
