I started watching SBSK back in 2017. I had just gotten out of rehab and had no clue what I want to do in life then I found your channel. Communication is something I have struggled with throughout my life but watching SBSK opened my eyes to sooooo many different ways of communicating. The absence of words shouldnt stop anyone from trying to connect! I now work in the disability sector and about to finish my bachelor in social work. You probably wont read this but thank you 💙
@hannap13 --- It's obvious that MANY people have read your story! I hope your life in the medical field is very rewarding for you. Giving of yourself this way can be one of the most fulfilling things you'll ever even _IMAGINE_ doing! I became a Registered Nurse in the 1980s, but was only able to do "hands on nursing" for less than 10 years due to car accidents. (None of which were my fault, but I really should get rid of those T-shirts that "have targets on them"! That's just a joke, but it DID feel that way for a number of years.) Injuries aside, I absolutely LOVED working in nursing, and was truly honored to be able to help other people.
She’s so stinking adorable. And those parents have such patience and love. I’m especially appreciating the step dad- he chose to be her dad, and he’s so appreciative of her. Layla seems like such a sweetie, glad we have you Chris! You bring so much light and attention to all these unique people I would otherwise be unaware existed.
The way she lit up when you sang her favorite song! 💕🤩 you’re a very special person too! doing these interviews has to be a lot of work! Lots of respect!
there needs to be a guiness world record for chris. Most friends on earth. that instant connection with anyone and everyone, no matter the circumstance.
It seems as if she really wants to communicate. I hope they'll try as many different communication devices as possible and that something is found thT enables her to express herself more fully.
i know this is layla’s time to shine but those grandparents are just so cool. im so happy she seems to have such a supportive network all working hard to make her as happy and safe as possible.
The mom is exceptional. Not only is she doing a wonderful job with Layla, but she has raised all her children respect for others and has taught the other children to love and respect their sister. BRAVO MOM!
Its so cute that she headbutts to express affection, but I really love that Chris can share that moment without invading her privacy, and I think that she can understand Chris is hugging her back with just leaning towards her, since its different than the hugs she gets from her family. I see this so much with special kids, because they cant really express it sometimes, people tend to be over-affective and touchy and they might not understand barriers for physical touch. This is so important for their comfort and growth! What an absolutely lovely girl and family! I'm so glad this channel exists ❤
That's a really great observation. I'm glad you pointed that out. I think sometimes it's hard for people who don't know how to treat those with disabilities appropriately in terms of physical boundaries, so learning how to do it kindly but respectfully is really important.
Chris, i absolutely love that you have been adding captions/explanations as to what you are doing and why! It helps me (and i’m sure other people too) to better understand the different ways to communicate and interact with an even more diverse group of people! I learn something new every video! Great job as always

8:33 She looks at her stepdad as if saying, “You see that? I’ve got Chris wrapped around my finger and he’ll sing for me on demand.” What a cutie! She’s very sharp and observant!
I actually found her reactions to her step-father odd. Exact opposite of how he described it & she reacted to no one else that way. 6:37...less than patient, less than interested, but then catches himself. Her reaction when Chris asks to "interview Dallas now" is loud & immediate. Not "good" excited. Btw Chris was very perceptive when he asked about the differences in her "vocalizations". The whole time the 3 of them are together she literally clung to Chris in the guy's presence; she couldn't sit close enough to him. She's not that vocal @ any other time during. Every time Dallas moves she immediately turns to watch his hands. When they both held 1 of her hands, she snatched her left from Dallas when she noticed he had it. He tried & tried to get her to respond/react to him, no days. The 1st he wants to talk about, un-prompted/un-asked about it: how badly strangers treat her? I will say, @ the end of old Dallas' time, she mercifully acknowledged him. I think it was to tell him to zip it & stop interfering😁. I could be wrong, I obvi don't know them. Just my.observations.
@mmcguffie272023 I totally agree. Her body language towards him is SO off compared to what he was saying. I felt it was confirmed when the brother told the story of how he tried to feed her and was upset.

How much you wanna bet Chris was singing wheels on the bus in his sleep that night? 🤣 adorable girl and amazing family. So glad you two had a fun time!
I can still remember when my school started accepting students with special needs, about half of them with Down syndrome, the rest of the students together in the school never was the same, from that point on we would always make sure they were feeling included, happy and cared for. Now looking back makes me smile, how it improved our experience in that school.
You’re very lucky to be part of such a wonderful family Layla, and you’re too cute. I too tend to hum the same song to myself incessantly without growing tired of it, so I can definitely understand that ☺️

Chris, maybe especially when it seems you might feel self-conscious or embarassed to be singing silly songs in front of the world, but you do it to relate to someone, and it gives ME the BEST feeling. You're so supportive and that's a magnificent comfort in such a distopian age.

Thank you for showing the world that all people are people and their humanity is present even though they look or behave differently. What a special thing to see this little girl's face light up as you recognized her song request.
Geezz. Watching this interview it was quite obvious to me that Layla has a WONDERFUL family from mom, step dad, her siblings and the grandparents. They're all just sweet & genuinely nice & decent people!
I love how you're adding in asterisks notes about what's going on (like why you paused for a bit). tip on how to make it more accessible: in the description you could put time stamps and type what's in the asterisks so people who can't see/read the screen can have a screen reader say it to them.

After I was diagnosed with copd I was givien a clear plastic pipe with a red ball on it. This helped me retrain myself , because after being so sick from my other issues I had to relearn breathing correctly. In through the nose & pursed through and out through my pursed lips. If not anything it will teach her to blow into the tube she can move the ball ,so the device can be a toy she can play with. Ask a pulmonologist first of course. What a wonderful family your have , not trying to suggest anything, your daughter just reminded how after that illness, I had to wear oxygen 24 /7 & breathing much like your daughter the little gadget helped me a lot. I used it about 90 days until I lost it. Now I am strong enough to do yoga breathing so it improved a lot. I am not as tired because less effort now goes into breathing.
It is called an incentive spirometer, and is for alveolar recruitment, or lung expansion to increase lung compliance and to prevent pneumonia. That is a great idea! I’m a respiratory therapist for 23 years and instruct my patients on how to use them every day!

This man has a gift. I work in special education, and he is such an inspiration.
Angels are very real and Chris is truly an earth angel. :)
"I was happy that they treated her with respect". That's one great sister. Also - that granddad is so wholesome I wanted to give him a big hug!
You probably wont read this but thank you 💙
Wonderful. Very best of luck to you. xxx
That's awesome! Wish you every success 🙌
That’s awesome! So happy for you, best wishes! :)
God bless you, Hanna!❤️
And so are you ma'am. Good to see people who see the best in others
there needs to be a guiness world record for chris. Most friends on earth. that instant connection with anyone and everyone, no matter the circumstance.
It seems as if she really wants to communicate. I hope they'll try as many different communication devices as possible and that something is found thT enables her to express herself more fully.
Yes! She is seems very thoughtful, and as if she would say so much if her body would let her get those words out❤️
yes she needs stimulus like maybe a small electric piano
Maybe as she grows older she will learn even more hand signs :)
i know this is layla’s time to shine but those grandparents are just so cool. im so happy she seems to have such a supportive network all working hard to make her as happy and safe as possible.
Layla is a very pretty girl.
@@karenmoriarty5754 yes :)
💯
That's a really great observation. I'm glad you pointed that out. I think sometimes it's hard for people who don't know how to treat those with disabilities appropriately in terms of physical boundaries, so learning how to do it kindly but respectfully is really important.
Chris, i absolutely love that you have been adding captions/explanations as to what you are doing and why! It helps me (and i’m sure other people too) to better understand the different ways to communicate and interact with an even more diverse group of people! I learn something new every video! Great job as always
Omg yesssss it's soooooo important!!!
Agreed!! It's so important
Yes! It helps so much to understand
fr tho!! i really wish mor people added captions esp for those with auditory processing disorder. really helps to hear when u can read it as well
What a sweet sister she has. I love that she looks out for Layla at school, too. Adorable!
Her little brother was amazing too!
I’ve watched this series 1000 times. And it only gets better with each and every video. This is probably my favorite TH-cam channel in the whole wide world!
Same here.🙂
mine too ( fav channel).. i’m glad they (youtube) turned his comments section back on after a fight of course 🤨😥🤓
IKR? He and his wife are amazing for helping us Disability people. Chris is the best. He raises awareness in this "abled" world and helps us understand just a bit more every video. This makes him my friend. LOL

Def one of my top 3 if not top 1 to be honest.
8:33 She looks at her stepdad as if saying, “You see that? I’ve got Chris wrapped around my finger and he’ll sing for me on demand.”
What a cutie! She’s very sharp and observant!
I love this comment!!

@mmcguffie272023 I totally agree.
Her body language towards him is SO off compared to what he was saying. I felt it was confirmed when the brother told the story of how he tried to feed her and was upset.
Her smile when he sings is so cute. This looks like such a loving family. I wish you guys all the best!
Shoutout to the stepdad who expressed so much love for Layla, his little buddy ❤ This whole family is amazing but to have a protective, loving, genuinely good person choosing to be in all of these precious kids lives is just beautiful. i wish you all nothing but joy and happiness. Love, someone who had awful stepparents
I thought the same thing. Its so evident that he loves that girl with his whole heart, and I know how important that is for a family. This family is beautiful
*Hugs* to you💜 I’m glad you didn’t let the bad stuff get the best of you!
Such an awesome kid. Disabled kids are awesome no matter what their disability is. You’re gonna make it in the world Layla. Don’t let bullies get to you.
As someone struggling w a disability your message means alot 🥺💗
You are so true! I used to work retail and I'd see the same disabled kids, teens, and adults with their families or caregivers and man...it was awesome getting to know them and see their progress. I miss them.
What a loving, wonderful, accepting family, Layla is a lucky kid to have so much love and support. I adore the way she wanted to get close to Chris, leaning in to share affection, so sweet. Chris, you are so special! Thanks for everything you do!
Seems to me she’s communicating as best she can. She totally understands so much. Love the cute pale bow
Such a beautiful family. All children should be so well loved and supported
my cheeks hurt from smiling so much ... Layla is such a sweetheart she was having such a great time singing and hanging out with chris❤ Layla you have such a beautiful smile that brightened my day so much! Layla also has a wonderful family I'm so glad we all got to meet them! thank you for this video!!
It is amazing how every single person you interview connects with you in such a beautiful way they all smile and want to be close and touch or hug you, says a lot about your spirit and energy you let off!!! Amazing!!!
This channel means the world to me. Thank you Chris for introducing us to so many amazing people. What you do is so, so important.
Bless that stepdads heart ❤️ he’s so good with her & loved his words about her. and That smile of hers!☺️ Chris - you are an inspiration to all! Human kindness and connection is key, thank you for all the positivity you bring ❤️ because of you & your channel, I’ve decided to pursue a career in special education teaching. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, but you opened my eyes to something so amazing and special, I can’t wait to experience what you get to experience with these lovely children. been a viewer for years & will always continue to be one! Thank you again, you are awesome!!!! Much love ❤️
As soon as she smiled I started crying. So wonderful.
That smile when Chris started singing wheels on the bus... That made my morning. God bless that little lady, her loving family and you as well Chris
Such a sweet smile. I love how she signs for "wheels."
It’s all through THE town!! Lol! She was wanting you to sing it till you did it right!! I love what you do and how you treat everyone the same. The world would be a better place if everyone had the same perspective as you. Bravo Mr. Chris!
I was thinking that too! 😅 And for him to sing the WHOLE song. Not just the first stanza over and over 😅 .
I've always know it as all day long lol
Finally someone else noticed lol Obviously he doesn't realize the THE before town cause he sings this song in many, many, many other interviews and without the THE lol ALL THROUGH THE TOWN :)
I too tend to hum the same song to myself incessantly without growing tired of it, so I can definitely understand that ☺️
These are so wonderful for my young daughter to watch. It makes her more empathetic and understanding of how different everyone is and helps her be move loving and understanding. She's been watching for years and I'm so thankful for this. Thank you for all you do 💜
Thank God for these little girls and the support that they both have from their families and everywhere in their communities. That little girl is her sister's keeper 💓💓💓
Don't think god, thank the people who actually support her
He is a angel from heaven! I’m so glad he does these videos, because it shows people that no matter what life throws at you, your special and never be judgemental
I can never watch these without crying. it's joy obviously, what an amazing human being you are I can't express. Glad you are doing what you are doing. Makes me hope for a better future for all
Chris, maybe especially when it seems you might feel self-conscious or embarassed to be singing silly songs in front of the world, but you do it to relate to someone, and it gives ME the BEST feeling.
You're so supportive and that's a magnificent comfort in such a distopian age.
I really see what Layla’s mom was saying about her spirit, what a great friend to have! Layla is the brightest sunniest little girl 🥰 you can tell she’s full of personality and spirit 😍
Thank you for showing the world that all people are people and their humanity is present even though they look or behave differently. What a special thing to see this little girl's face light up as you recognized her song request.
What a beautiful smile. Thank you for sharing Layla's story. I love that everyone in the family is involved in the interview. All the best.
7 plus billion people on the planet. She’s the only one. Just wow. That gives new meaning to uniquely special. What an amazing girl and family. I’m glad I stopped by…..❤️❤️❤️❤️

The fact that he respects their wishes, an is so kind an connects with them really gets me.. What a beautiful heart he has.. We ALL deserve respect and love.. ALL of us..
You could see Layla open up and become more animated as you talked and sang to her. She's a cutie pie. 🤗 I felt that she was trying very hard to communicate with you. A wonderful interview.
God bless you sir and all the wonderful work you do. You bring a voice to the voiceless, sight to the blind, and sound to the deaf with all your wonderful interactions with these wonderful people. May God keep his loving hands upon you and may he bless all you do.

It's honestly amazing, how happy and loving these children are. They live in the moment, and are happy with the most simple things eg, music, and human touch from a loving family. And Chris, you give me so much hope that there is good men out there.
Watched this while travelling for my doctor's appointment at around 8 in the morning (commenting now, after the appointment). Layla's smile just brightened my day. I absolutely loved this family, they are so sweet and they care for Layla so much, her mom, everyone. But I love how her sister is, she is so caring, so loving to Layla, being a kid herself she still is such a good older sister. I also loved how much her Step dad admires her.
You are changing so many lives. You are such a kind person and it must mean a lot to the families you visit. You go out of you’re way just to see these kids and that is absolutely amazing. Keep up the amazing work! ❤️
What a gorgeous child! And when she looked straight at the camera I couldn't help smiling, she has beautiful eyes.
I do like the way you include whole families. Thank you for introducing us to Layla and her sweet siblings

Such a wonderful video, thank you for making my day! ♥️
Its amazing how all of the siblings of these kids with disabilities are so loving and wise beyond their years. These kids have definitely been placed in the perfect families for them.
You are wonderful, Chris. It's absolutely amazing how you interact with Layla.
Her smile is so adorable! I really love Layla's spirit and how she just wants to be friends with everyone. Even though she may look and act different, she is still a human being who can communicate and is able to have feelings. Real emotions!
You are such an amazing human being, a true hero of our time. It's difficult to find the words for all you've done for those gorgeous souls and anyone awake enough to watch your videos, while the rest of the world pretty much uses internet for self promotion or worse. Deep respect for you.
Thank you Chris, Alyssa, and everyone who is featured on SBSK. You show us the beauty in the differences in humanity. And to Layla and her wonderful family for taking the time to give us a glimpse into your family.
She is a cutie pie
I grew up with deaf grandparents, so i was taught at a very young age that we are all the same, and and if we ever see someone bullying a disabled person to stand up for them and i have psted that down to my children a so on and so fourth i think what he does with his videos is so important and they really do need to teach this in the schools this little girl is so adorable i wish i was there to give her a hug!
Love this ! Layla is such a sweet child , I could swear I heard her say “yeah” when she was asked if he wanted her to sing the song faster .
Bro honestly, Chris is such an amazing host for this channel. He has the best questions, fantastic connections and always has a huge huge huge smile on his face. He genuinely knows how to communicate in so many ways...Much love Chris!!

Chris, you're so lovey! I've been watching for literally 1.05 and already you've made Layla happy. You've got a gift!!
I feel like you added more explanation dialog and I really appreciate that and enjoy it
you can clearly see she is trying to talk and sing, and the words are not coming out, but she totally understands everything. if you watch her lips move, they are trying to say the wheels on the bus with him. that is so cool. good for you layla. I totally hear you talking.
