  • The Garmin Connext® wireless platform in the G1000 NXi system uses an onboard Flight Stream 510 gateway to stream information in real time between the avionics and compatible mobile devices running the Garmin Pilot™ app. This, in essence, turns your tablet or smartphone into a true cockpit interface - enabling database uploads, wireless flight plan transfer, plus sharing of traffic, weather and navigation data to help streamline your cockpit workload.

This is totally a commercial sales pitch over simplifying data downloads and transfer. I have found that the tranfer through Garmin Connext is a long winded process. Pairing the connection between an iPad or iPhone is very awkward and temprimental. I lost the connection before completing the data transfer. As a result, I now hvae a message that states: "1 database ready to install", but it won't install. I thought Connext was supposed to simplify this operation. It would have been a lot easier and quicker to do it in the old fashioned way, with an SD card.

Leo's comment below is totally correct. This video is a joke and does NOT accurately reflect the process. And, moreover, the process rarely works. YOu will get a notice to connect your device to the internet, but then if you do that it says you are not connected to the context. Terrible and frustrating process. Garmin, you should do better!
