Hi Kirt, thanks for the video, I just replaced my clutch and fly wheel in my 2007 D40 Navara. Can I provide a few tips for everyone regarding my experience. There are 2 x bolts at the top of the gearbox/Bell housing that no videos seem to show. I could not undo (let alone locate) these 2 bolts from under the car. I had to access these from under the bonnet. This required me to to bend my arms into positions they’ve never been. I’d recommend removing the entire exhaust system, didn’t take long and it allowed me to drop the gear box, making it a lot easier to replace the flywheel/clutch. I hired a transmission trolley jack to manoeuvre the gearbox which was easy to use and saved so much time. Keep the gearbox level when you remove it so you don’t lose and fluid.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2011 Thai built 2.5 diesel single cab and this video tells me the job isn't too difficult. My key concern was the weight of the gearbox being a safety issue. It needs to be well supported and secured before pulling it off the bell housing.
Your clutch pedal is soft because you torque the plate down properly Over tightening can cause the pedal to be hard You do get judder to start with until the clutch and flywheel are bedded in. good video thanks for posting
Great video! Very straightforward and informative. About to tackle our work ute which has begun slipping badly whille towing. We obviously need to miniimise the downtime. Thank you for your tips.
Over a somewhat relaxed weekend. If you were wanting to smash it out, maybe around 5 to 6 hrs? But i was doing it at a chilled pace, so Sat and Sun and not long days.
Hi, I had a mech change my flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing. However, the flywheel bolt has broken twice. Any idea what we could be doing wrong?
I had the car for roughly 6mths after the install. It was great, you could tell the difference between old and new. I thought going to the single mass was going to benefit me, as I tow a lot and it did. If I wasn't towing a great deal, dual would be better, just for the drivability aspect.
be aware the clutch plate will go on the wrong way round, the stand out part goes away from the engine not into the recess of the fly wheel. I tested it so i could type this post.
Hi Kirt great video im thinking of changing my 08 40 king cab's clutch soon and was just wondering how you have found the blustered clutch after a year of use?
I made it on the floor with jack stands - and it was my first time. Used a motorcycle lift to hold/ move the gearbox. To disassemble it took 21 hours. To put all back, it took 14 hours. There was sure some hours used to sit down and think. But to put all back was quite fluent; that gives maybe the idea of the total hours needed; maybe some 30 hours would be good without breaks. In workshop garage they have standardized it to take 6 hours in total in Finland - I asked the firm price quotation for it. However, they have all the lifts available and occasionally two pairs of hands, when needed. I got quotations from 900 eur - 2000 eur. The high quality AISIN clutch costed 300 eur. I had to purchase only some new bolts in addition to that; some of the old ones snapped or were so rusty, that I changed them - speaking about the support beam bolts. This all is for D22 with a solid flywheel and AWD ! D40 looks quite a different one; you have there the front drive shaft still connected and you start to open the bolts where the bell is connected to the motor? th-cam.com/video/KPOPH2x-1xg/w-d-xo.html
Where did you find the torque specs for the kit mate? I bought the same for my 2011 navara but there’s no info enclosed and I can’t find anything online. You able to point me in the right direction?
Unsure of part no. I bought from Blusteele, through ebay. I typed Blusteele Survivor Series Navara D40, and it came up with a few different kits. Mine was called, heavy duty survivor clutch and flywheel kit for D40. You will have to make sure you get the flywheel that fits, i.e. the only difference you need to know is if your vehicle is 126kw or 140kw. They are very quick with message responses at Blusteele.

Well Done Kirt , I'm about to do the Same on My 08 Nav , great video man
Well done, got mine done at 170,000 and changed to an exedy SMF. They were surprised it lasted that long.
What about vibrations?
Very informative and detailed video. Thanks bud!

Absolutely r.e. the weight, I even chocked the jack just in case. It wasn't too hard, as long as you use the specs given with the clutch kit you buy.
Very good and well explained not bad for a non mechanic
Cheers buddy!
Wow this is a great vid. I want to change my clutch for the D40, it has begun to slip

Yep. Got a Spain built 2012.
Got misdiagnosed and spent 3k on new injectors.
Finally found a mechanic that found the issue.
The old was a DMF . You put in the SMF I guess.
Can you send me link for this SMF kit?
Is it the same as the Xtrail T30 2.2 diesel?
How come the plate with the old DMF has springs in it?
Thx for posting the video. Will be most helpful I’m sure. Have a kit and will tackle job this weekend. My question is how long did it take? Rgds Matt

Thanks a lot!Very informative and a great help.
No problem. Understandably there are many different ways to install, hope there was something that might help you.
@@skepsis1000 Just watched again. It will make it so much easier to fit when the time comes.Thanks.
OMG DAVE?!

G'Day Kirt, how's that Blusteel clutch going after 3 years?
Please make a videos about this clutch as review after 1 year. And the benefit for change the dmf to smf.

I had the luk original dmf for roughly 38000 miles (22months). My car is d40 too. Is that okay ?

Good video I love it
Hi Kirt great video im thinking of changing my 08 40 king cab's clutch soon and was just wondering how you have found the blustered clutch after a year of use?
I had the car for around 6mths after the install. It was fine, felt the same as when it was installed.
My clutch just starting to get high I wanna change it but should I wait till it starts to slip?
awesome, thanks for sharing..
I have One question..for change clutch plate navara ..easy closed engine or closed gearbox
Hello thank for the video, how long did it take you to change the clutch? From
Start to finish
A weekend. It could've been done in a day, however I took my time.

Mine were printed on a sheet of paper inside the box from the supplier. You could try them directly maybe to see?
Great vid and great effort! Was it pretty hard to reinstall and align the gearbox to the engine?
No wasn't too hard. The hardest part was aligning the shaft into the engine. When it engages, it's a relative easy slide together.
Was this a Petrol VQ40 or Diesel YD25??
@@griffinheyden2255 deisel model buddy.
Good job sir
Hey mate, did you reuse the stock flywheel bolts?
No, the kit came with new ones. If it didn't come with them, I wouldn't have seen an issue in re-using.
What's the partnumber of kit?
Unsure of part no. I bought from Blusteele, through ebay. I typed Blusteele Survivor Series Navara D40, and it came up with a few different kits. @@skepsis1000 What did it cost out of interest?
Roughly $1000. It was a while ago though.
