Never be embarrassed to go to the doctor, no matter how sensitive the problem is...they deal with this stuff every day, they're not going to judge you. It's their JOB. Avoiding embarrassment isn't worth your life. That's the advice TB gave when he had colon cancer as well. :/
I went to a doctor for a sensitive issue that's not easy to get rid of and when I brought up an issue I had with the current treatment, she snapped at me. Needless to say I would rather deal with it than return.
While I 100% agree with you, not everyone has understanding doctors. I still think you should go anyways but my family doctor sucks and im having a hard time finding a new one due to my multiple conditions and unwillingness to continue my working treatment plans. Ive also had more bad doctors appointments than good ones (although due to having a pain condition). Some people have traumatic experiences with doctors that stick with them for life and cause deep fear anytime you even consider seeing a medical professional. That being said you can always go to a walk in clinic or emergency room to see someone else and its worth it since it can save your life.
It's crazy that there isn't a law that requires companies to disclose full ingredients. I know some companies have a secret formula and stuff, but they could just be allowed to not mention amounts.
They already have patents probably that will stop anyone else from trying to replicate their products. ALSO: food companies do it, and they also have secret formulas, so why can't cleaning agent companies do it?
As a nurse, I can say that your relationship with your doctor and nurses is not social. It is therapeutic. Never confuse the two. In a therapeutic relationship it is all about you and your body and not much else. Please go to healthcare without embarrassment, which is just never easy, but it is your body, and that’s what we’re here to treat.
A friend's wife is a nurse, one day my mate told me about his wife making fun of inserting cafiters in old men's wrinkly shrunken bits. I'm 55 and now have a severe case of PEYRONIES, I have no intention of being examined past that of my doctor first diagnosis, not that there is any viable treatment anyway.
I get self conscious and embarrassed about my body and have to remind myself that my doctors have seen and heard a lot so they hopefully won’t be disgusted or weirded out by what they see or hear. I was even embarrassed about toe fungus I had a few years back. It doesn’t help that in the US (and some other countries), we’re told a certain area is private, so it can be hard to not be embarrassed or self conscious having that part of the body examined. Yes, on one hand it might be just another body part, but on the other hand, it’s different than having your arm or leg examined.
If you ever feel the need to use lidocaine then you need to see a doctor. No question. My doctor knows many things I’d never tell anyone else and that’s because both he and I are responsible for my health and well being, no one else. Well other doctors as well but same thing.
oh my god. i’ve been suffering from unbearable contact dermatitis on my hand since working as a barista. i’ve been to my primary, 2 dermatologists, and an immunologist and no one could find a solution to my skin condition. my symptoms sounded so similar to this and i look and BAK is an ingredient in our cleaning solution 😢
Talk to our boss and see if there is another cleaning solution that they could use on the machine. If not, ask them to supply disposable rubber gloves for whoever is cleaning the machine. Barring that, if your boss doesn't want to get you at least gloves, bring your own gloves.
@@aresjerry i’m the only one at my cafe that suffers from it so i thought i was all alone. i’m allergic to tree nuts so i’ve been thinking all this time it was the almond milk
@@roseblite6449 it’s starbucks so i know they won’t change. my manager was providing gloves but now they switched to a different type of glove that offers no protection. i’m gonna have to start supplying my own but thankfully i’ll only be a barista for little bit longer
I had a rash that just got worst over 5 YEARS! I went to specialist after specialist, had multiple interns brought in to see this incurable rash (I was asked each time) and couldn’t stand it. Finally it disappeared. A few weeks later I found out I had cancer. The oncologist told me that sometimes rashes occur precursor to cancer. I only had that rash once more. When that second cancer was gone, the rash left too. 30 years later and I’ve been rash and cancer free. It’s weird how your body reacts to different stressors.
the whole theory of evelution seems to be broken by the fact of PAIN like really was evelutinatly benaficial to buckle in pain and get eaten becuase buckled in pain?!?!
I have had a similar case. It took a while for a doctor to realize it, and I was very sick by the time it was discovered. It is shocking the chemicals that are allowed in products.
The problem is not the chemicals. It is the improper use of them. The dose makes the poison. If you use your pan correctly, the coating doesn’t get damaged and won’t release the chemicals. Apple seed contain cyanide compounds, you don’t ban apples, you just don’t over consume them.
PTFE coating in fry pans are not toxic. It’s inert. Can’t react even if you wanted it to. The PFAS chemicals used to make the coating is well known to be harmful but once the pan is made you are unlikely to experience harm from routine use. People living near factories that make these pans are the ones most at risk not the consumers of these pans
As someone with about 10 chronic illnesses and current symptoms of sore throat, red and burning eyelids, and red and burning spot between my fingers, I'm always afraid I'll be a Brew episode one day.
Wouldn't you *want* that in a way? He's recreating publsihed medical reports and is obviously not able to give you medical advice... but if you ask nicely he might be able to refer you and your doctor(s) to related papers. Sure, you might be the subject of a story if it works -- BUT IT WORKED!
Honestly I'm already embarrassed sometimes to share my health conditions with my doctor and now even worse because the hospital starts having a note taker person comes in with the doctor. The doctor said he is here to take note so I can fully focus on treating you..😢
I had to go out of town in 2021 and stayed in a long-term airbnb for about 6 weeks. Not long after i got there i started having a rash just like this lady. Nothing made it go away. It just kept getting worse and worse, until finally i came back home and it cleared up completely about a week later. I'm now convinced the owner of the unit where I stayed must have used a laundry rinse on the towels and bed linens. There were so many, i never had to wash them, just throw the dirty ones in the closet for the cleaners and grab a fresh one. So i used "contaminated" towels and bedding the entire time i was there. Thanks for randomly solving a 2-yr old mystery for me, Brew!
So i had to do chemotherapy, and within the first few months, i found out it was giving me acute adult allergies. I found this out after i went to the ER and was administered a medication i had been taking for atleast 7 years at that point. All i remember, is the nurse saying shes going to give me the medication, then i immediately felt like my heart was being squeezed super bad so i grabbed my chest and said "my heart", then a bunch of alarms started going off. I wokeup almost 2 weeks later in the ICU. I was in acoma for almost 2 weeks because i went into anaphylaxis and my heart stopped for over 2min. All of that to say, allergies are not a constant. Anyone can become allergic to anything at any time. You can accumulate more allergies over the years, or your allergies could go away. So just because youre not allergic to something now, doesnt mean youll never become allergic to it.
I became mildly allergic to apples after years of eating them just fine. I then suddenly stopped having reactions several years later. I knew my allergy would be temporary, so I ate an apple once a year as a test. It wasn't life threatening, I just felt mild pain in my throat. My father had a similar experience during his adolescence, so that's why I was confident it would disappear overtime. Apple juice never caused any reactions, only raw apples.
You're a life saver Brew! My mom has been suffering from these rashes and been trying hard to get rid of it. TQSVM for making this video, and I just noticed it was a recent video posted. This explains why when she doesn't wear underwear it doesn't irritate as much, as the rash becomes painful. The detergent was causing it. This is very informative, I wonder why these information aren't shared enough, it's such a huge work to go to doctors and they only prescribe one drug after another.
I stopped wearing underwear as well, started wearing dresses, like they did in the 1800. White chemise as the first dress, then a color dress over, then an apron .
I’ve had the same thing. It’s indeed quite painful; it feels like your skin is tearing when you move and even bleeds every now and then when the skin peels off. Fortunately my GP immediately diagnosed it correctly and advised me to switch to a different laundry detergent. That solved the issue. Although I had been using the same laundry detergent for years without any problems, apparently I had slowly developed an allergy.
What if something else changed that made the affliction causing ingredient react differently to your body. Chemicals can act differently depending on other chemicals.
It's those later developing allergies that throw us off. You keep looking for any NEW things in your environment, not realizing that it's something you've been using for years.
It's possible that the manufacturer changed the ingredients for cheaper variants that are also more likely to cause irritation. A great product you love will always be changed for the worse over time.
I always have to use the extra rinse cycle and use sensitive skin detergents. I normally use natural soaps now besides when I wash my clothes. I can really tell the difference if different detergent is used or if there's fabric softener added.
This is EXTREMELY VALIDATING to my struggles having Eczema prone skin. it was only on my elbows with the itchy parts but EVERYTHING IS WAY MORE IRRITABLE good to know it wasn't in my head or "just ocd" or whatever dismissive thing people would tell me.
Here in Germany, from my and my relatives and friends experiences, you will also get a same day appointment if you are in pain (and communicate that; The person on the phone can't read minds).
I got a pretty aggressive rash this last November and it never really got better. About two weeks ago my washing machine stopped filling up, and it turns out that the electronic fill up valves have been failing for a while now. I've had to run multiple wash cycles without any detergent to rinse the soap out and couldn't figure out why until now. I replaced them and now my clothes are finally soap free. It's weird how the time line matches so well.
If I had a rash in that area, especially if it was that painful, that'd get me to the clinic even quicker than a rash on any other part of my body. No matter how many medical professionals I'd have to show it to.
Ironically, Her blaming her husband and recleaning the toilet seat using her own wipes probably caused her condition to worsen as she stated later her wipes contained the chemicals causing the condition.
@@pokerations rewatch the video again. It clearly states she felt what the husband was using on the toilet was making her worse. So she clearly did blame her husband. Atleast partially.
she only did what she did is because she’s trying to stop the rash, and since that’s one of the suspected causes, of course she’s gonna tell her husband to stop it
@@murigrim she deduced that that was the only thing changed. Made perfect sense to at least suspect it was that cleaner causing her rash. Get over it. She didn't "blame" her husband.
If a person has a question about if they need a doctor, _go to a doctor!_ That's what they're there for! And if you've been to this doctor before, they will have your history. Write down the history of your complaint, when it started, what seemed to go wrong, and anything else that happened. Bring that with you along with a list of medicines, supplements, and herbal stuff if that applies. Wishing everyone good health.
I remember the last time I visited an American hospital. All I did was walk in the door, fill out paperwork, & get a cup of water from the water cooler. The sent me a bill for $325.
Plus a lot of times they end up misdiagnosing you... and yes not everybody has the money/insurance. If you can just go to a doctor without worrying about how your going to pay thats a privilege that not everyone has. but honestly too your just lucky if they didn't mess something up and seriously mess you up like they did with my spine. Also, one time my 6 year old son went to the hospital and had to get blood taken and they forgot to hold his arm down and blood started squirting out so fast when he moved (he's okay now at least but it's just forever burned into my brain). There's a lot more but we'd be here forever.
My grandmother years back would wash her clothes by hand in her bathtub with a clothes washing rack, and a laundry soap bar, no fancy scents, I'll never forget that, she never developed any skin rashes and her clothes smelled wonderful she hung them on a line to dry she was born over a hundred years ago and that's what they did...times have really changed and I don't think it's for the better imo.
A lot of people can't handle fragrances in normal household products. Fragrance doesn't do anything but smell nice and sadly, a lot of people develop contact dermatitis from it. I developed this year's ago and oh my god, the skin flaking, irritation and bleeding were so bad. Unscented is definitely better if you have sensitive skin. 😊
Having to wash all your clothes that way is time consuming and highly inconvenient. Rashes like the one this woman got mainly affect people with sensitive skin; they're not something that everybody gets. I'd much rather have the convenience of washing machines and dryers.
That’s because her generation was raised in an “dirty” environment, protecting them against autoimmune reactions. But the soap is also a thing. After getting allergic to wash powder, I started using the old soap bar again. No problems anymore. Now I use an ecologically brand, Ecover.
It (jokingly) drives my husband nuts that I will only use scent and dye free laundry soap. Can't even use fabric softener. He once by accident bought "mountain fresh" instead, he barely noticed a scent, but it made me sick and gave me headaches until I rewashed everything he had washed with it.
Started using vinegar lately in my laundry, about a third to half a cup and there's no smell after the clothes dry. they're also way softer and don't have that damp smell to them which is common here in Ireland
@@godowskygodowsky1155 Yes, that's true. Funny thing is, when I go to my doctor with a question he's not totally sure of... Right in front of me he'll ask Google 😂😂🤣.
I have serious skin sensitivity issues. I only use baking soda, & vinegar in my laundry, & an extra rinse when I think it's needed. Since I've been doing this over the past ten years I haven't been having serious skin reactions from detergents, fabrics, etc. One cup of each, & it's cheaper.
Please, exactly how do you do this? I need to know…I get very sick using laundry soap with synthetic fragrances, and I can no longer find fragrance-free laundry soap where I live 👀
That's wild. I was just explaining to my SO that he's using too much laundry detergent and it's not washing out all the way. I can tell from the texture of the laundry and it bother me. I'll have to double check some ingredients to be sure that doesn't happen either
I get self conscious/embarrassed bringing up certain issues or being examined in certain places by my doctors and nurses. I have to remind myself that they’ve seen and heard a lot so they hopefully won’t be weirded out or disgusted by my body. I also have a hard time speaking up in person if I’m feeling anxious or embarrassed so sometimes I write a note for the doctor/nurse to read and that can help start a discussion/conversation about what’s going on.
Ever since I've got guinea pigs i've been careful with detergent. They didn't get anything wrong, I've read their nose is sensitive and my clothes always smelled of detergent. For the past two years I've went from one whole cap of liquid detergent to a quarter
She probably recently got a new washing machine which might have caused the chemical to linger in the clothes, due to washers having gone to Low Water. Thus with lower water, the clothes are not being properly rinsed to get rid of the chemicals used in the wash.
I developed a severe allergy to the fragrances used in soap and deodorant. I didn't have a allergy until the companies changed the formula back in the late 1990s.. Now the only fragrance i can use is aftershave made in the old fashion way, from the 1890s and early 1900s
This was SO HELPFUL!!! Just this morning my daughter came home from work complaining of that exact pain in that exact same area. It wasn't more than an hour later after she mentioned it that this video popped up👌💥👌💥. Great timing Brew👍. Our laundry soap doesn't mention that ingredient since we buy the dye and scent free stuff but it does have the brighteners and couple other weird things I'm definitely going to be more careful with. I'm getting ready to re-washed my daughter's clothes in baking soda. Thankfully I don't use a bunch of chemicals in my washer due to sensitive skin. Thanks for the video 👍🙂👍
Why are you using baking soda? It is highly alkaline as well as being a completely ineffective cleaner. It will ONLY do two things: a) fail to clean your clothes and likely leave tiny grains of itself in the clothes as it's not very soluble, and b) ABSOLUTELY cause your child skin irritation (due to it being so akaline) and likely also infections (as skin has to be slightly acidic and that is essential to it fighting bacteria). Baking soda is NOT a miracle cure. When people use it as a cleaner (it sucks) what's happening is that it's abrasive and scrapes off the dirt physically... just as if you used grit or stone. How people keep chasing the myth of it being a cleaning agent is bizarre.
@@DoctorMoo Lol... I hear ya😅. I have been using it for years with great results and don't plan to stop in this lifetime. However, the clothes I put in the wash were already cleaned with soap I'm just using the soda to neutralize the chemicals. We baking soda users are bizarre indeed but since it has worked for me for so many years I'll have to keep my bizarreness 👍😉. Although when it comes to using a cleaning agent, I do prefer comet powder cleanser since it's far more abrasive but maybe next time I'll use both😅👌
Thank you so much for this video Brew; my family has a very rare genetic skin disorder that makes us very chemical sensitive, my kid had been having bad issues with his hands much like what I had as a kid, it was writen off as being part of the disorder but when I saw your video I immediately thought to check our dish and hand soaps (about the only chemical products we use at all) sure enough it was the main ingredient in the Softsoap hand soap that we use! I will definitely be getting a different brand for sure!
I had a slight reaction to scented laundry detergent back when I was a kid, I got hives and my back constantly itched until my mom realized that I needed hypoallergenic detergent and dryer sheets. Thankfully it was a slight allergy and I've grown out of it.
I checked my Dettol bar soap that I love right away and it lists all the ingredients and I don't think it contains it, pfew. Though other sprays from that brand do. I use the bar soap to wash my whole body and while I can react to many soaps with itching this one leaves me smelling good longer and doesn't cause any irritation. I did have to change laundry detergent once , that I had been using almost my whole life as I was getting itchy legs, it seems you can always start to get more sensitive to things you have been using for a long time. I use an extra rinse cycle on my laundry anyway, no extra antisceptics. I though hot water and soap kills like 99% of germs anyway and then you heat and dry it in a dryer. But my wash cycle is much longer than many U.S machines, maybe it makes a difference.
I don't use anything scented in our laundry. Matter of fact softener is a rare thing. Use it for other household uses mainly. And we've always done a second rinse. Our detergent is he but only uses about a tablespoon worth of detergent. Nothing like an occasional vinegar rinse for kitchen towels. And some baking soda once in awhile for bath towels.
OMG ive been having this skin irritation on one side of inner thigh but not the other side. Ive been getting corticosteroid cream on the skin but it would not go away. I dont have severe pain like this lady but do have irritation especially at night that interrupts my sleep. After watching this video, i looked up the condition and OMG THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE.i looked at so many pics and read all about it and it 100% describes my symptoms. Im gonna rinse my clothes extra well and change my laundry detergent to see if it helps. Thank you SO SO much for making this video.
The cleaning chemical industry is evil. I realized I was allergic to scents inside of laundry detergents when I heard Louis CK say, "Tide makes my butthole itch" or something to that account. Low and behold that was my issue that I had dealt with my entire life. I thought having an itchy butthole was just a way of life. Turns out I was very allergic to tide and other artificial scent. Now that I've stayed away, the scent seems overpowering, it gives me a headache and makes my eyes water, and my skin itches just by being touched by somebody elses clothes. There is no way this is good for anybody, even if you don't react.
I'm allergic to laundry detergent, perfume, & hairspray. If I'm walking in the neighborhood & pass a house doing laundry, I break out in hives. I cannot go down the cleaning product isle in grocery stores. I recommend skin-grade tea tree oil (Jason's) for soothing contact dermatitis hives. Works way better than hydrocortisone cream. Also good for mosquito & flea bites. Don't use it on your pets.
How do you do laundry? I’ve learned to wash my hair with baking soda and vinegar, and found a “clean” bath soap, but laundry I haven’t figured out yet…
Ive started using the extra rinse cycle after noticing that some of my clothes would have a bit of detergent residue on them. I do this along with using less of the detergent each time. Ive noticed that my laundry feels cleaner and softer that way.
Yikes. I literally just bought a bottle of Lysol laundry sanitizer a couple of days ago. 2nd ingredient: dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride aka benzelkonium chloride. Guess I’m returning it. Edit: first time I bought it and have never used it
The chemical itself isn't necessarily always the problem, if it doesn't cause any negative issues for your family then there's no reason not to use it!
@@quixomega It helps with people like me who forget their laundry for a while and it ends up with mildew. A quick rewash with laundry sanitizer and it’s gone. Normal detergent won’t touch the mildew smell, and I can’t stand using vinegar on my clothes lol.
It's worth noting that anyone who washes their underwear with their clothes, or even in the same washer, will have fecal bacteria all through all of the clothing. Lots of studies confirm this. So…
Recently ran into an hour long video by someone talking about dishwashers and their dishwashing powders/liquids/capsules and it lead me down the chemical rabbit hole. The amount of harmful chemicals in cleaners of all sorts is astounding, regardless of how convenient capsules are I'll probably never use them as they overcompensate with more then what you should use in turn often making cleaning worse. Also, carcinogens! Alot of chemicals that have loose connections pointing to the fact they might be carcinogenic are almost certainly in something in your laundry isle!
If you are so worried about germs use HIGHER TEMPERATURES and wash your clothes people….use the highest setting for heating on tablecloths/towels/bed sheets and at least 40C for your regular clothes….also use Less detergent and dont use quick washes, because those can really Affect your skin as most washers use only one rinse wich is not nearly enough for your clothes to be rinsed trough .Also use powder for your whites and liquid detergent for coloureds and darks, and NEVER overdose your detergent…cant belive ITS 2023 and people still dont know how to do laundry or how often They should
Great information. So many products have bC in them now. Counter cleaners, pump soap, bar soap, Lysol, fabric disinfectants floor cleaners which contain this disinfectant, disinfectant cleaning wipes...since COVID, the manufacturers of cleaners have gone crazy adding it to every product.
I was washing my hands with machine washing powder, then i found that it's quite effective to use in the place of soap while showering, then I'd start getting a severe skin sensitivity, i even got dizzy and felt extremely sick, i eventually figured out that its the washing powder, just as well, I'd have kept using it might've gotten much much worse
During Covid I had a horrible acne outbreak because I was required to wear a mask for most of the day. No matter what I did over the counters were not cutting it. A few trips to the Dermatologist made it a lot better. However, some say Dermatologist are not "real doctors", I will fight against that notion with all my being.
That part where she looked for help online because she's embarrassed to go to the doctor. I think it's funny how she was embarrassed to tell the doctor about her problem, but not embarrassed to put it *online!*
I’m mainly surprised that the primary doctor she was seeing didn’t immediately send her to the dermatologist, any doctor I’ve ever scene would just look over the rash and give me a referral and just recommend taking pain killers and using creams until I see the derm
This video deserves a double thumbs up - this may actually explain some rashes my wife has - she actually has a affinity to use a lot of those washing detergents or whatever, that might not be so good for health, and actually causing allergies. Thanks @Brew ! 👍👍👍
My mom uses those "Unstoppables" pellets in her laundry. They look like soap shavings or tiny soap pellets. She also recently bought a new washing machine that may not use as much water as older models did. Fortunately I see her 3 times a week so if she ever complains about rashes I now know what she should stop using first.
That’s the flaw with most HE washers, you have to run them through several rinses to be sure everything is all rinsed out or else clothes will smell like detergent and will be itchy and this is coming from someone who doesn’t have extremely sensitive skin. Ever since I stopped using HE machines, noticed my clothes felt softer and felt and smelled more cleaned as well.
Try this experiment. Run your washer with no laundry or soap. If you see soapy water, then you know that rinse cycle needs more water or wash clothing with no soap, once in a while.
Dye or chemical allergy? Similar issues but combo of a gluten and genetic linked dye/chemical intollerance. Fun fact, red40 is made of petroleum and its in most topical ointments as the main ingredient. The mostly zinc desitin blue label(not extra strength, more petroleum) was the only thing that helped and didnt worsen the burn and breakout. Took 4 dermatologist to get the gluten condition biopsy and finding one for my kid i had to call 7 dermatologist to find one that ever treated it before, only 1 other even had heard of it. Didnt find most of this out til my kid got similar young and a lot of butting heads with his narcissist mom on the food dye problems, all the issues they were causing that turned out to be a myopathy and encephalopathy(brain swelling) trigger and other issue. Now i hot wash basically everything and keep a jewelers loop for labels. Havent worn underwear since a teen when my dermatitis broke out for 6 months. Petroleum, oatmeal, lotions, and epsom salts make it worse. Zinc pastes only.
I have had over sensitive skin all my life. Only time I've felt ok and not just using plane water. Is when I use just a bit of dawn dish soap and baking soda. A couple tablespoons of vinegar for rinse cycle works even better never had irritating skin problems since
I ended up switching from regular detergents to dye free/fragrance free after I started just, itching whenever I put clothing on. I was told it was because I wasn't bathing enough. Nope. Turns out the dye and fragrance was driving my skin crazy.
I was going through a similar issue for a long time and know most of the treatments used lol. Ended up mainly being having to replace my bath towel and avoid excess sugar though. I also took dupixent for a year.
Because I recently broke something I stayed with my parents for a couple of weeks. I knew it the moment I put on underwear my mom washed for me. It's so itchy. She uses a freshner with the laundry and my nether regions were the first to notify me of that fact. Shirts and pants came a little later.
I developed a very itchy and painful rash which I thought was a yeast infection. However, I found out I developed an allergy to laundry detergent. I use the free and clear stuff now-only 1 pod per load- and no dryer sheets. No more rash.
Thank you for this video, it brought new light to another factor that could be causing my skin irritation, I have bad eczema after years of it being clear, I started using scent boosters in the wash and never thought that and a build up of detergent on my clothing could be the case, I’m going to start doing extra rinses and stop the scent boosters to see if it helps… I’ve been trying everything.
Sorry have to correct you. The eu has quite strict rules on labelling unlike the USA. They have got to list all this stuff as Ingredients, or they face lawsuits for mislabeling.
This is my life. Shampoo conditioner hand soap laundry detergent. Cleaners at work. I have to wash the things I use at work because they are getting cleaned with something that irritates my skin.
I had a stubborn rash on my armpit that my doctors couldn't solve. The dermatologist determined it was an unusual form of psoriasis. Luckily, the location and sensitivity wasn't as bad as this story.
I was having skin rash and generally suspected the laundy because when I use newly washed laundry from the washing mashine it's itchy and feels rough even if the fabric is smooth. Then I went to the dermatologist and she also said the same thing, wash the laundry with the least additive possible.
I once had a huge swath of purplish blotches on the inside of my thighs that lasted for months and then randomly went away. To this day I have no idea what it was. It had no symptoms in common with any types of rashes I Iooked up and did not react at all with topical cream. It was not painful, not raised, no pustules, no weeping, no itching, no flaking etc. All I can think of was that it was some kind of heat rash because it would start to fade slightly and then get darker again on particularly humid nights. But I’ve never had it before or after that time, despite going through humid summers again. Eventually, after a couple months, the purple faded to yellow like a bruise would, and then disappeared completely. No idea what it was.
Allergic reactions can be weird. My mother loved cantaloupe, then suddenly in her twenties she had a terrible reaction. She can't even eat a fruit salad with the cantaloupe pieces picked out because even a little juice can make her sick.
I get rashes from some soaps and cleaners. In some cases, I used them for some time before I realized they were the cause. Had't heard of that chemical before. Yes....I've been using OXYCLEAN in all laundry and dish loads since the pandemic, along with soap. It's not the same chemical....but IF I developed an irritation, that would be my first thought of the culprit. I always run an extra rinse on my dishes; to avoid the chemical being consumed, but never thought of an extra rinse for the clothing. Sorry to hear about her struggle; but glad I heard it. I'll keep an eye out!
Oh my, I have been using Dettol antibacterial laundry cleanser for a bit (it does contain benzalkonium chloride), as since the pandemic, I have been more cautious about germs, but may reconsider using additives altogether, thank you for sharing the information!
When I was a kid I remember a shampoo we used must've changed formulas or something because suddenly it made me get a rash/bumps on my skin going down from my hair. Weird part was it didn't affect my sister who was the one with sensitive skin and always reacting to detergents and soaps etc.
Top down washer, I do light detergent, less than the recommended, do a second cycle even less detergent, then opt in the extra rinse cycle. The whole reason I started this was just to get stubborn odor out of all clothes and it worked.
People over sanitizing things is not good. Why do you think that people who work outside and in dirty environments hardly ever get sick? Your immune system needs to be strengthened and constantly assisting it means it doesn't need to work as hard. Your immune system then gets less effective. Not to mention the fact that you are covering yourself in harsh chemicals.
Dermatology nurse here: Don’t be embarrassed!!! We see skin literally all day, every day. A ton of different skin conditions thrive in skin folds (groin, armpits, buttocks, etc). It’s not our jobs to judge you or your body.
Water efficiency is a scam. Clothes are nasty after washing. They don't make machines that fill water to like 90% of the baskets anymore . Good era gone.
2:00 the tub of moisturiser just says "moist". Which made me laugh. Cos I'm immature. 🤣🤷🏻♀️ Edit: I'll never understand how people are too embarrassed to see a doctor but aren't too embarrassed to tell complete strangers. The people online will only tell her to see a doctor cos they have no clue anyways. Edit no.2: My answer to the poll. If I had to watch one show in the hospital for 13 years it wouldn't be any of them. It would be Steven Universe or something I actually enjoy. I have mental health I can just rewatch the same shows I'd like over and over and not get bored. But if I was to watch any of the shows in the poll I would become depressed and bored.
Holey moley, this is what I get!! Checked the ingredients of our washing powder n sure enough! Wow. Came on here to watch cool videos, ended up solving issue that's been plaguing the Dr and myself for at least 1 year! Not as bad as her though, but pretty close! Never be embarrassed to go to the doctor, no matter how sensitive the problem is...they deal with this stuff every day, they're not going to judge you. It's their JOB. Avoiding embarrassment isn't worth your life. That's the advice TB gave when he had colon cancer as well. :/
I’ve been judged a lot my doctors tbh

You've got a tough job! Thanks for all you do!
Every single nurse on this earth can tell you a list of the wierdest things they've helped pull out of people's butts.
If you ever feel the need to use lidocaine then you need to see a doctor. No question.

Talk to our boss and see if there is another cleaning solution that they could use on the machine. If not, ask them to supply disposable rubber gloves for whoever is cleaning the machine. Barring that, if your boss doesn't want to get you at least gloves, bring your own gloves.

I had a rash that just got worst over 5 YEARS! I went to specialist after specialist, had multiple interns brought in to see this incurable rash (I was asked each time) and couldn’t stand it. Finally it disappeared.

Well, if they allow cancerogenous coating for a freaking frying pan, what do you expect from a cleaning chemicals?
The problem is not the chemicals. It is the improper use of them.
The dose makes the poison. If you use your pan correctly, the coating doesn’t get damaged and won’t release the chemicals.
Apple seed contain cyanide compounds, you don’t ban apples, you just don’t over consume them.
PTFE coating in fry pans are not toxic. It’s inert. Can’t react even if you wanted it to. "No one is perfect." Idk about that. You seem so.

Because as one ages, the moisture barrier and skin becomes thinner.. so the effect of the laundry detergent became more evident
It's those later developing allergies that throw us off. You keep looking for any NEW things in your environment, not realizing that it's something you've been using for years.
It's also possible the manufacturer decided to change the recipe, you never know
It's possible that the manufacturer changed the ingredients for cheaper variants that are also more likely to cause irritation. A great product you love will always be changed for the worse over time.
And here I was thinking it was going to be a necrotising bacteria from someone not sanitizing their front load washer!

It's an emergency dude 😑
Here in Germany, from my and my relatives and friends experiences, you will also get a same day appointment if you are in pain (and communicate that; The person on the phone can't read minds).
Countries with universal healthcare are like that.
Everyone else was too scared to go to the doctor too.
@Luiz super fast? Right, took me a month to get an appointment with a dermatologist here in the US.

Most households still do that here, and yeah skin conditions caused by detergent are pretty rare here. It takes a lot of time and energy though

I mean, that could be a number of things other than this. Probably a good preventative measure, but she should visit a doctor anyways.
Why are you using baking soda? It is highly alkaline as well as being a completely ineffective cleaner.
It will ONLY do two things: a) fail to clean your clothes and likely leave tiny grains of itself in the clothes as it's not very soluble, and
b) ABSOLUTELY cause your child skin irritation (due to it being so akaline) and likely also infections (as skin has to be slightly acidic and that is essential to it fighting bacteria).

The amount of harmful chemicals in cleaners of all sorts is astounding, regardless of how convenient capsules are I'll probably never use them as they overcompensate with more then what you should use in turn often making cleaning worse.
The irony that she lived 5min to the dermatologist

A couple tablespoons of vinegar for rinse cycle works even better never had irritating skin problems since
I think its amazing she got an appointment on a SUNDAY AFTERNOON. lol where at?
I ended up switching from regular detergents to dye free/fragrance free after I started just, itching whenever I put clothing on. I was told it was because I wasn't bathing enough. Nope. Turns out the dye and fragrance was driving my skin crazy.
I was going through a similar issue for a long time and know most of the treatments used lol. Ended up mainly being having to replace my bath towel and avoid excess sugar though.
I also took dupixent for a year.
Costco has great towels (bathmats too) should you want a decent priced towel that feels great. 😊
Scent boosters can be a horror show, you should avoid them at all costs - and use something like Tide free & Clear
Your workplace should be providing gloves/protection ,so that you may be better able to function and have less reactions
I had a stubborn rash on my armpit that my doctors couldn't solve. The dermatologist determined it was an unusual form of psoriasis. Luckily, the location and sensitivity wasn't as bad as this story.
Imagine putting your life in danger due to being embarrassed
Ya want an antiseptic for the laundry, try vinigar. Disinfects AND softens
No idea what it was.
i love how everything is related to staph
Allergic reactions can be weird. My mother loved cantaloupe, then suddenly in her twenties she had a terrible reaction. She can't even eat a fruit salad with the cantaloupe pieces picked out because even a little juice can make her sick.
Seems odd, but allergy to melons is quite common. They seem so mild. I think I developed an allergy to shrimp I didn't have before.
I always use an extra rinse cycle.
Man, I had something like that, due to the product I used to wash my clothes on the machine it's awful
We use vinegar mixed with water and a few drops of aromatic oils.
I always use the "water plus" function on my washing machine. Modern washing machines just don't use enough water!
Water efficiency is a scam. Clothes are nasty after washing. They don't make machines that fill water to like 90% of the baskets anymore . Good era gone.
I get a rash in my armpits if I use the wrong type of deodorant. It has to be SURE's original solid, or I can't use it.
2:00 the tub of moisturiser just says "moist". Which made me laugh. Cos I'm immature. 🤣🤷🏻♀️
Edit: I'll never understand how people are too embarrassed to see a doctor but aren't too embarrassed to tell complete strangers.
It's words on a screen vs another human being
“Brew threw a cup of coffee in a washing machine, months later Humanity is took down”
Holey moley, this is what I get!! Checked the ingredients of our washing powder n sure enough!
Wow. Came on here to watch cool videos, ended up solving issue that's been plaguing the Dr and myself for at least 1 year!
Not as bad as her though, but pretty close! There were days I was in so much pain, we did test after test. I have very sensitive skin and excema so what'd you know. Thanks Brew! Seeing my doctor soon. I can't wait to tell them!
I'm watching this right before I go out to eat lunch
