Both the Wii U and the Switch 2 are follow ups to hit consoles for Nintendo, but the Wii U failures were more than just simple matters of design. Wii U failed because their marketing was garbage and it confused many people, but Nintendo has grown a lot more since. As long as it is backwards compatible and they improve upon its power and ergonomics, its basically guranteed to succeed, especially with how large the Nintendo demographic is nowadays. The main intererest in handheld consoles in modern society is power and performance in games, they could easily make a hardware upgrade on par with a PS4/PS4 Pro, fix the joycons and build quality, and they are set for the Switch sucessor.
Switch 2 : fails hard in 2024 due to marketing. So Nintendo is back to square one and ditching hybrid.
I agree, people keep saying just make a more powerful switch. I don’t think just increasing specs will sell another 100 million plus consoles. Historically that has not been the outcome for Nintendo.
It won’t fail if it has backward compatibility and it portable. If they change it too much and go a different way yes I can agree.

The Switch in my opinion is the Greatest Nintendo Console of All Time and I believe the Switch 2 will just surpass it

Disagree lol the “game boy” line was the best. Yeah it had some issues, but for the time, the only other comparable portable gaming was “Tiger” handhelds and OMG.

Dude people literally said the exact same thing about the Wii U when it was rumored to come out and look where that got it.
The issue with the WIi U was simply marketing. It made casual Wii owners think the controller was a new peripheral (they didn't even show off what the console looked like until closer to release). All Nintendo has to do with the Switch 2 is say "Still a Switch, more powerful, here's games". Success....they found the winning formula for at least one more console, as long as they don't do something drastic, it'll be fine. Not to mention, we're getting to the point where people are finally ready for a new console...people were wanting the fabled Switch Pro that never came to be, so I think Nintendo has the market just right, right now. It's time.
As for the name...Switch 2 is fine. But I like "Super Nintendo Switch"...seems so obvious lol.
The Wii U actually sucked. And backwards compat was garbage. The HDMI output was garbage, and emulation was super back. You also couldn't play GameCube games on it. It has to do with way more than the bad marketing. Many people who bought it hated it.
I agree with you on the naming, but disagree that they need to make a major change. Give us a better screen, better contollers, more power, and backwards compatibility and you will print money.
All Sony and Microsoft do is release consoles with better resolution and more power. Anytime they try and get fancy, like with the Kinect, it ends up being a disaster.

The Switch 2 would be a fine name IMO, if that’s essentially what it is. The Wii 2 would have been better than Wii U coming after the Wii. The name just has to make sense that it is not an add-on to the existing system, which is where they went wrong with the Wii U, seemingly. Also, marketing it correctly, almost regardless of console name, is important. We’ll see what they end up doing and I’m here for it 😄
I can’t agree with you there. At least if there’s a 2 you know it’s a different system. I’m just afraid they’re going to call it something that’s confusing again.

Why are we assuming the next iteration is called “Switch 2”?? When has Nintendo ever named a new console with a numerical title?
@@flouserschird There was no “super” before the Super Nintendo. There was no “new” before upgraded versions of the 2DS and 3DS handhelds. There’s a first time for everything. And most are just calling it that right now probably out of habit and following what everyone else has been calling it. The thing could very well be a huge departure from what the Switch is, and I’m looking forward to finding out what it’ll be.
Or simply calling it The "U". Seeing that "U" Logo by itself would have made a statement. (The console will be all about "U") As for this new Switch name...Switch MAX, Switch Ultra MAX models.
The next Nintendo console needs a new useful gimmick, because being a decent handheld isn't enough now; there are better options in that space already out there, so the Switch 2 needs some other gimmick besides just being a hybrid console.
WiiU was awesome. It was so good that nearly all first party wiiU games were re-released on switch. I find it funny that people who have never owned one still say its bad even though they never owned one.
I understood exactly what it was immediately.. i held up the gamepad and realised it was a big nintendo ds for the home. Big tv screen, small independant 2nd screen on the pad that was touch with a pen.
if you go to metacritic, 63 games on wiiU was rated 80% above. Nintendo knew that it was not selling well, software sell hardware, and they went balls out making really great games. WiiU had a relatively small library but most games were straight up incredible. Remember breath of the wild was a wiiu game, switch version was a port.
If the public could not see what a great machine it was, or 'didn't get it' oh well their loss. Same as Saturn, dreamcast, gamecube only sold 18 million and it was considered awesome. N64 only sold 40 million and was considered incredible. I have never purchased a console on global sales, could not care a less, the only people that figure matters too is the company and its shareholders. I buy consoles to game on, and although I own both wiiU and switch still prefer wiiU to switch now because of that independant touch screen on the pad.
I am excited for the new Nintendo console and I hope it will have success. The fact Wii U failed doe not mean the same for the Nintendo Switch 2. Nobody knows yet. We just have to wait

Why will it have unreal engine 5 compatibility?
I think the next "Switch/New Console" won't sale as much as current Switch. But Nintendo could use that to there advantage. Perhaps eliminating the OLED and saving it for the next of the next Nintendo product. Cutting cost as we wait for the next of the next Nintendo product. Unless they go full VR that connects to current Switch Models, and boosts performance from the new device.

The Wii U wasn’t a failure from my consumer perspective.
Couldn’t disagree more that calling it the Switch 2 will be a bad move… I’m not a gamer, never have been - but I love the Switch. It’s probably silly but if it’s not a ‘sequel’ to the Switch I’ll just not pay it any attention. I’m basically waiting for the Switch 2, that’s it.
If you ask me the Switch 2 will probably succeed and be just as successful if not more successful than the OG Switch. Nintendo was just in a completely different position with the original Wii as it was a lightning in a bottle situation and became a fad so they had no momentum leading into the Wii U as they had burned off most hardcore gamers and the casuals had moved on to mobile games and stuff. Even if the Wii U was called the Wii 2 it probably still would have sold badly. The poor marketing of the Wii U didn’t help either. However this led to the Wii U having one of the greatest libraries of all time imo which directly led to the success of the Switch. Pretty much the only demographics the Wii U appealed to were the Nintendo enjoyers and the new generation of younger kids who probably didn’t have the original Wii (Including me, the Wii U was my first Nintendo console when I was only 7). Meanwhile the Switch is very different from past Nintendo as it’s successs is more akined to that of PlayStation or Xbox. The Switch truly is a rebirth of Nintendo as a whole as it’s more synonymous with their brand than any other line of consoles as their only focusing on one instead of a home console and a handheld at the same time like they did in the past. Plus Nintendo has a completely different leadership now under Furukawa so I’d say the Switch 2 will probably be a massive success and will probably have a great original lineup of games on top of that. (Even though Furukawa is a lot more anti-consumer than Iwata if you ask me, but Nintendo themselves continue to make great games and it’s only getting better nowadays leading into 2024.)
It will fail because now we have steamdeck and handheld gaming pc. theyre the kings of backwards compatibility and playing the games that you already own.

Thats another thing, there were a lot of Nintendo switch sales and majority of them will not upgrade to a new console unless its significantly better and backwards compatible.
The switch 2 can't compete with the power of the ps5 and the xbox series X. The switch 2 will be getting downgraded third party games and last gen ports that the og switch couldn't handle. It's over for Nintendo.
Their best option is to go third party like sega.

I will admit other companies have done it and had no problem. Nintendo want ever done it though so I worry instead of 2 it’s going to be the switch “U” (not really U) or something like that and make this harder on themselves than they need too. We’ll see. Hopefully my worries are for nothing!

I'd just want a Switch 2 with better Joy Cons, maybe with handles so we don't need grips, of course no drift and power enough to play PS4 gen games. Better be backwards compatible with digital and physical also, then I'd be happy. I don't care about some crazy gimmick.

The wii U confused the markey simply because people thought the gamepad was just a accessory for the original wii. Nintendo had terrible marketing for eii U. Yhry focused entirely on gamepad and never focused on the console.
Back when the Wii u came out I wasn’t big into following tech but I played games. I thought the Wii u was a simple accessory to the wii and didn’t bother. I think a lot of people thought that and passed on it. Really bad marketing from Nintendo especially the simple naming of the successor wii u. I don’t think Nintendo will make that mistake again

This was really the problem with the Wii U. It wasn't explained well AT ALL. It did look like an add-on, but even then it didn't really look like an add-on that was worth the price tag. The "U" was the problem. It didn't differentiate it as a new and distinct console. If the Switch's follow-up is at all similar (which I hope it is), I am completely fine with calling it Switch 2. It differentiates it from the previous generation in a way that Switch Oled did not. I see the point of an entire name shift, but I am also hoping that this upcoming generation can actually play current Switch games as part of it, so keeping the name would signify some sort of future compatibility with older games.
Not only that , it suffered alot from not having a huge 3rd developers support. The Switch has lots of 3rd party big titles including Mortal Kombat, Fifa soccer, Streets of Rage 4 etc.
The Wii U is a great console. The Switch feels like a cheap pos in comparison. The mistake Nintendo made was really in the naming.
Uh not, that's false lol. Problem with Wii U was also it had region lock,whereas Switch does not lol.
Nintendo can't afford to have the next gen Switch fail. They are trying to be more than a game company. They trying to be what Disney used to be with theme parks and movies and they haven't even started to take off. They have to still rely in good will relationships with their customers before they can make their brand that big. So the next Switch must be everything we want; or it will fail and so will they. All their theme park and movie plans, will go down the tube as well and they know it. Maybe when they reach their goals; then they can afford to mess up and be like everyone else, but for now, they gotta save the gaming industry first, before building that resume. That means backwards compatibility with everything current and at least 2-3 more generations, and continued power perfomace in line with exactly 1 gen behind the current power consoles (which probably won't exist in favor of streaming); while Nintendo still provides offline, family and gamer fun with some online.
Some good points there. However too extreme terminology. Check out the finances of Nintendo, they could afford to ‘fail’ for 3 more generations and still be called financially stable. They are a very strong built company!
How about the flip or the twist or the spin just a few name suggestion. I do think we are going to get a very Nintendo game it might not be called the switch but something similar tune to it.
Flip, twist or spin make no sense. It should be called Fold, Go or Up. Fold - if the system can fold into a pocket, Up - because it can be customisable and Go because it can be used on the go maybe through the use of a cellular plan.
Nintendo Focus definitely makes No sense whatsoever, what is the Focus going to focus on? With the switch it makes sense that the system switches between Console and portable mode. They are better off calling the System the Nintendo VR or something completely unrelated to the switch to avoid confusion.
Of course the next Nintendo console gonna be a failure and there is a logical reason about it: During the Nintendo Switch era, Nintendo have enjoy to mock, ignore and treat badly their own community. Do you really think it's supposed to be normal for a big video game compagny who have so much video game into their hand to always do favoritism by release every years the same grab monney game who are Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby while we never get any remaster or new game on Switch for Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus and even not a new Mario Kart or Donkey Kong who isn't a Wii U port to the Nintendo Switch without forget it take 6 years since the Switch launch for finally get Pikmin 4 as the first new Pikmin exclusivey on Switch? I don't think so and the community too.
Plus it's supposed be normal that we have eat so much old Mario games ported from Wii U and previous console like Super Mario 3D All-star (SM64, Sunshine and Galaxy) to the Switch and be sold to 60 dollars when we know that the previous Nintendo console do very rarely portage and remake instead it's a new Mario game? Ah and of course Nintendo who be very disrespect toward Iwata after he died by add the paying online on the Switch despite Iwata was against the paying online on the Nintendo console since he wanted Nintendo be very different from Sony and Microsoft despite Nintendo wanted add the paying online since the Wii U but, thanks to Iwata, the Wii U was the last Nintendo console to have the free online and I really wish he could still be alive for not let made Nintendo do stupid mistake again and again.
That why the Nintendo Switch is my last Nintendo console that I buy because what the point to buy their next console if it's for eat the same grab monney game with Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby (despite the last game of those 3 serie was a garbage but not a big surprise since, like say the human proverb: Too much grab monney game, kill the grab monney game) who are release every years while we get the middle finger from Nintendo for their others video games when we already have the Nintendo Switch just for that? Except if we are a big Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby fanboy, the next console is useless and I badly see myself buy the next console for play the same game again and again until there is finally various game to appear because I already did this mistake with the Nintendo Switch when I buy it in 2017 and I must admit it's was nice at first to play Mario games but, sadly, the games who was released was always the same again and again and even sometimes I was wondering why I buy a Nintendo Switch until Smash Bros, the both Hyrule Warrior and Metroid Dread and more various game coming but sadly, even in 2023, the Switch still suffer a lack of various Nintendo games that we still wait to see.
So yeah, several community into Nintendo didn't appreciate the bad jokes that Nintendo did for them, specially the Star Fox community who didn't appreciate the disrespect from Nintendo toward Star Fox to not do anything special for the 30th anniversary for Star Fox and with the false Star Fox Grand Prix game leaked but who was a false leak that Nintendo create themself for joking but still don't do a new game, Nintendo who promise to the Metroid community that Metroid Prime 4 is just for the Nintendo Switch but, since it seem like we approach the next gen console between leak and else, it seem like Nintendo have lie to the Metroid community while the Mario Kart community was upset that Nintendo release more content to a 8 years old Wii U game on Switch instead create the true Mario Kart on Switch so I think it's gonna be a good news if the next Nintendo console be a failure because most of the community decide to pass their path with their next console after the fail of the Switch, like that, maybe Nintendo gonna put their feet back on earth by quit their monney bed cloudy when they will notice that the monney from their next gen console don't go into their wallet anymore and, at the difference from the Wii U, it's gonna be deserved. However, I will be nice and buy their next console but only if their release a new Star Fox, Metroid, Smash Bros or Zelda games but, by know their issue to be addict to the monney since Iwata death, I don't think it gonna be soon.

I feel like you missed the mark a bit… because you didn't even mention the most important factor: the games!
I know, the Wii U eventually had a decent library of games, but they really botched the launch of that system. It clearly launched before they were ready to launch it, as all the usual "year 1" games started coming out the following year. They've since learned from this mistake with the Switch. The Switch launched with only a handful of games… but they kept the games coming at a very consistent pace throughout the inaugural year.
The Switch has bought Nintendo A LOT of time… and a lot of their dev teams, such as the EPD Tokyo team (responsible for 3D Mario games) and the EPD team in Kyoto that makes the mainline Mario Kart games haven't made anything significant since 2017. If Nintendo launches with a Mario and Mario Kart, within its launch window, it will be a massive hit.
Nobody really cares about "what does this do compared to my old one." They care about the games at the end of the day. The reason the Switch sold was because it had games… and a lot of them.
This system needs to launch asap so people can stop making videos like this .

Nintendo will be Nintendo. Not everything they do will be a hit. Sure the Wii U failed but what did they do? Release a couple of classic consoles and people went bananas. Then they just ported most of the games over to the Switch. Problem solved. We also should recognize that people went bonkers over the Super Mario Movie and they have Super Nintendo World now. They're bigger than ever, Their next console will sell like crazy just on brand recognition alone at this point.
Failing after a successful console generation is a Nintendo staple, NES Success, SNES success, N64 fail, Virtual Boy hard fail, Gamecube hard fail, Wii success, WiiU hard fail, Switch Mega Success, let's hope they break the trend.
But the reason why the Switch succeeded is because Nintendo's handhelds are always successful, and the Switch perfectly merged handheld and console, the portability of the Switch was its major selling point and the more it sold, meant more games from 3rd parties, i honestly don't do not think it would have sold as well if it were just another underpowered home console.
But they also learnt their lesson from the Wii U, they advertised and marketed it properly, they made its extra features practical, and they made sure to keep a steady stream of support.

I just want a Switch 2, more powerful, 1080p 60FPS handheld, BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE/ ALL Switch 1 games NEED to work on Switch 2/Switch 1 games NEED to be able to go into the Switch 2 and play, this is all I care about, they can do other stuff for the Nintendo fan boys and gals, but to keep me as a customer, thats all they have to do, I came from the Vita/the Switch was my upgrade, from the Vita, the playstation WII U 2.0, that requires a PS5,proprietary headphones, if you want to go wireless and that doesn't have playstation remote play, is a joke/lazy, but I digress, the Switch 2, just needs to have this, or my next device is going to be the Ayaneo pro 2/3.
It really is going to be interesting to see how they go about this next system. Everything from what it does to the branding. Hopefully we all know soon and it is at least along the lines of what we expect

Wii and Switch launch with a Zelda game. Gamecube, WiiU did not. Switch Next is likely not launching with a Zelda game therefore I suspect is will struggle.

You forget the most important point: A lack of variety among the exclusive game since 7 years on the Switch so, as a refresh reminder for those who already forget:
Nothing for a new Star Fox and Kid Icarus games and not even a remastered or remake if Nintendo is too lazy for made a new game, just 2 Metroid games with no life sound anymore about Metroid Prime 4 since it have been announced 7 years ago, just one sort of Rom hack about F-Zero from the SNES to the Switch with 99 players instead made a new 3D game or a remastered game if they are still lazy for do a new game and just one Pikmin game while the 3 others was port and with the fact about the Mario Kart true fans never get their new Mario Kart on Switch who doesn't smell the 2014 Wii U port about to put more stuff 10 years later like if the game was release unfinished on the Wii U that they need to fix it 10 years later instead turn the page and made a new game so we can say it a sort of scam toward the real Mario Kart fans.
And meanwhile we got too much of those cash grab games with more than 10 Pokemon and Mario games and 6 Kirby and Fire Emblem games with a lot of old video game port from Mario that we have played before and still know them perfectly like Peach possessed at the end of Paper Mario TTYD as final boss, Mario paint see in fully in the last mansion from Luigi's Mansion 2 and the two endings about Mario vs Donkey Kong about the second with Mario comfort DK by offer him one of his own tiny Mario toys instead give some chance to old video game port who isn't another Mario, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Kirby.

Another hanheld is not going to sale as good as the 1st one. Specially at a hefty price parents knowing kids are just going to brake it. Right now many homes have at least 2 to 5 Switches. Another handheld device, I don't think will sale well. I think Nintendo should of went back to a console and keep the Switch as what it actually is, a handheld. I doubt a Switch 2 will sale as good as the 1st one. Specially when they are using the same name.
The New Siwtch will have to be a combination of The Switch, The WiiU and a streaming handheld like the Logitech G Cloud for it to “succeed” ! Like a Swiss Army knife! Screw it, call it the Nintendo Swiss 😂

1. The switch- Stand Alone Hybrid Console that can be played Handheld or Ported! Just as it is now!
2. The WiiU part of the switch 2 - The switch itself will be just like the gamepad ! And instead of a “dock” there will be a table top “console” like the WiiU that can also play the cartridge but you can also DOCK the switch into! But this “console” will have to be powerful enough to play modern AAA games!
3- Cloud Streaming- for obvious reasons !
Here’s another KEY factor; the switch itself should also have the capability of working as a Bluetooth Controller for other nonNintendo consoles! Because Nintendos goal HAS TO BE to KEEP the Nintendo device in the hands of users AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!

In my opinion Nintendo’s new console will be a commercial failure just like the wii U.
Nintendo has major problems as a brand, their games are aimed at Kids and Casual Gamers, these demographics very rarely upgrade their consoles and they very rarely buy new ones, most of them are still happy with playing Mario Kart on the Switch, they don’t need a new one. Nintendo has a major issue because their biggest audience (the kids) don’t even have their own money, they rely on the parents to buy them games. Sony sits on the opposite spectrum because their biggest audience are hardcore gamers, and they are mostly young adults with their own money to spend. On top of that Nintendo has other issues too, like for example the low graphical power of their consoles, the new Switch 2 will be hacked very quickly and we will see probably emulators running on the Steam Deck and other Handheld PCs very quickly.
The way I see it Nintendo is finished as a company, the Switch 2 will be the last gaming console their will release and after that they will convert into a very successful software company making games for Sony, Microsoft and the Steam Deck.
Nintendo needs to change their approach and make more games designed for more mature audiences. There isn’t much money to be made by selling games to people who don’t take gaming seriously. Casual gamers and children don’t take gaming seriously.
This is also the problem with the naming situation of the Nintendo consoles. Casual gamers like moms and dads and the 10 year olds have no idea about video games. They don’t understand what a Switch 2 supposed to be. They already have a Switch, they don’t need another one
Nintendo Accepts violent games as well, And besides Microsoft and Sony accept Family Friendly Games on their Consoles aswell.
