  • Nintendo Switch 2 leaks are everywhere but this one from mobapad involving the magnetic joycons is by far the most interesting to me. Lots of people on the Internet are talking about these magnets and how they could potentially cause problems but I’m here to tell you now they will work and this is how. Leave a comment let me know if you think this joy cons will be as bad as the ones we have now or fix the issues!

It will more than likely be some kind of pins made out of metal that gets pulled out of the joycons and secure them into the switch itself when they are close enough to connect rather than needing a constant flow of electricity to hold them onto the device. You would need VERY strong magnets to keep them on the device and keep them from accidentally being pulled off

The Joy-Cons already consume power BC of the Bluetooth, and the Switch new model/ OLED have better battery life. It's going to last like 6 hours of portable play easy.

I think people were worried that it wont be secure and that switch could accidentally fall off if you spread apart your arms while still holding the joycons. I dont think magnets will be the only thing that will secure the joycons. There will probably be some kind of locking mechanism so the joycons wont fall off and the magnets will hold them better in place so they wont feel wobbly like joycons on switch 1. I hope they make it in a way that joycons will almost feel like a one unit with switch when you attach them. You can tell the difference with switch lite vs regular switch. Switch lite everything is one unit while on regular switch the joycons feels kind of wobbly and not really like a part of the same unit.

It's most likely the same joy con rail with the added magnetism but it's not a big deal. Working in factories with mag plates these joy cons will be similar in function, mag powered to lock the system to the joy cons and can only be released when a button for deactivating is pushed. In 10 years I've only seen one mag fail and it was from egregious changes that caused 2 barrels to hit the mold while open at 5t each so over 20,000lbs of pressure.

@@illusioned0ne Yeah im fine with that. It might be rail again but with the added magnet it will probably help with even more stability so the joycons wont wiggle while attached so its a plus for me. I highly doubt it will be like people fear. Chances are it will be improvement over regular switch.

Don't forget that kids are also going to use the Switch 2. The problem with the rail system is that the buttons to unlock the Joycons are so small and require some kind of force to remove it. Kids don't apply enough force but are still able to remove it but they strip out material from the locking mechanism which is made of plastic. Stripped to the point the button to unlock isn't needed to be press to remove the Joycons. Adding to that enlarging the rail width if you don't slide in or out perfectly in parallel.
The magnetic suction thingy is to create perfect auto-alignment to the mechanical locking. Locking is automatic. But for unlocking, there's should be a button to remove the locking not mechanically but electronically, without using force.
If they use that same concept on the dock that mean there no more need for a front panel blocking the bezel less edge curved 8 inch screen, to keep the dimension around the same as the Switch 1. Kids aren't good at aligning without damaging. Switch 2 Joycons strap will also act as an adapter for Switch 1 Joycons using a removable strap and a cover for the rail.
Nintendo is aiming for both software and hardware backward compatibility. Their rivals was never Playstation nor Xbox but Mobile and PC.
P.S. The only reason I can think of for not having a mechanical lock is if the Switch 2 fall to the floor the Joycons will pop out without damaging or widening the connectors in the tablet in analogy to the rail on the Switch 1. If they are able to make the magnet strong enough to not need a mechanical lock without draining the battery.

It would make sense that the button just reverts the charge so the electromagnet looses force.
Not to the point of falling down but easily to take it with your hands, no sliding required.

    That thumbnail is epic.
My own concern is an electromagnet will be a constant current drain that would shorten battery life, including when the console is turned off (unless you want the joycons to fall off when you put your switch 2 to sleep)

  • @TonyDaExpert

So if your switch get powered off or battery dies your tablet falls onto the floor below? What scares me is the lack of accountability Nintendo took over Joycons issues if they did put effort into fixing its issues I would be more confident in them. For all we know it could have problems and nintendo won’t fix them till the new gen 7-9 years from now. i think some hybrid physical mechanism paired along the magnets could work just hope its not only on magnet.

What isn’t well known is that Nintendo DID secretly try to fix it. You know the cardboard in the joy con 5 minutes diy fix? That actually didn’t work. Nintendo tried putting something like that in them, no difference. They didn’t announce it because there were lawsuits going on at the time where they were denying it was a problem at all. They discovered the only way to fix drift was a complete redesign, which they may or may not use in the joy con 2’s

I wonder if nintendo new console will keep the joycons, I only use them for certain games but i preferred my binboks for certain games while dobe/echzove controller grip for my main go to for handheld mode. Its crazy how the switch over the last 7 years the switch has had some many accessories built for it. I hope next nintendo console has just as many ^^

Have you ever used a Pimax Portal that already has magnetic joycons… they are loose and wobbly when you play. Also a hazard for your hands when you connect them. I can’t see Nintendo doing this too many children will get injured
