She definitely has a yesteryear vibe in her music. Her voice is a throwback to the great singers of the 40s and 50s, but updated. Tremendous emotional power. I can hear why so many people like her. I think I need to hear more.
One of the best singers around at the moment. Her voice has a classic vibe to it in the style of Billie Holliday, whilst being modern at the same time. Gives me goosebumps and I'm a 56 years old rock fan.
I have to say that in a world where current music is very challenging to me in its banality and corporate repetitiveness Billie Eilish stands out to me as something different and interesting. There is a core to her music that is routed in classic songs of the past but with a contemporary twist and arrangement that makes it appeal to both me and my kids and you cant say that about many artists. I hope that she stays true to her self and her music and does not get dragged down by the temptations of life and wealth and fame and then maybe in 50 years people will discover her work like you did with Joni Mitchell and wonder at the creativity.
Thank you Thank You Thank You I'm a 68 YO male who absolutely loves her work, she is so refreshing. Her very best stuff is live (in spite of those who say she doesn't sing) Check out her live version of the James Bond No Time to Die. Electrifying Been a fan of yours for awhile, good to se you back.
Billie is amazing. She and her brother Finn create music that is real. Billie is one who gets her fans and they get her. I love that song My Future. She's not going to commit to anything until she finds out who she is first! Nicely said!!
I loved this reaction! you were so understanding of the lyrics and it really felt like you were feeling the music. it was great. and also thank u for saying that you don't understand how poeple say she can't sing because honestly idk either. she has the most angelic voice ever
Can't sing? So open and spacious is this first tune, with her breathy voice almost crying the lyrics. Very intimate. (guess some people have trouble with intimate) So thoughtful and seemingly together. Billie has definitely listened to (and understood) some great female vocalists from the past. This second song shows wonderful, quiet emotion. (guess some people have trouble with emotion) Guess some people just don't care. And isn't that what she is singing about. Billie has now shunned her wild hair color but have not caught up to as why. As I recall, she said the change has allowed her to go outside and NOT be immediately recognized, if she is careful. The two of them are a great combination with soulful honesty. Yes. Too short. “The best things in life happen to you when you’re alone.” Agnes Martin (American abstract artist)
this was quite lovely....this is the most down to earth and real that Ive ever seen her....most of the sound bites or clips that Ive seen of her she seemed spacey and odd which is obviously a just a crafted persona...I love her melancholy vibe.......thanks much for this mate...really enjoyed it....peace
After seeing her interviewed a few times, I think she has hinted she might be on the spectrum. It would explain the parental involvement through the whole thing.
I'm really glad that you went with this Tiny Desk Concert to hear the core of her music stripped from all the pop industry nonsense. The only thing you're missing is Finneas' production. He's the youngest person to win the Grammy Award for Producer of the Year.
I remember recommending you watch a little of her long ago. She is unusual. I think those two are musical geniuses, and their parents just didn't want them to get ruined by the industry. I personally have liked her since Ocean Eyes, which I think they put out themselves. If you want to see something neat, she has given a video interview answering the same questions each year for the last 4-5 years, and it's interesting to hear how she changes her answers. Or doesn't, in some cases.
I really like her, and have from the beginning. And the song I still like best is her first: the one her brother wrote and gave to her to sing -she was 13. Ocean Eyes. It was brought her attention and contracts. It was a few years later that she had her first huge hit, Bad Guy. The people who don’t think she’s a good singer are those who think you need to belt out a song to be great. She’s not that kind of singer, and how she sings takes enormous skill that many musicians and voice teachers have pointed to. I also adore the Norwegian singer Aurora, and I also love her earliest song written at 12. That was 10 years ago and her fans are so devoted to her. She’s not a mega star, but attention has been steadily growing. For Billie, it seemed like all the stars were aligned for her to get such a huge following so quickly. And so many Grammys in one year! That and the internet.
Other Billie songs you need to here would be 1) ocean eyes ( 14 years old..the song that started it all and made her who she is today) 2) bored (she was 15 when this was recorded) 3) when the party’s over 4) I love you 5) ilomilo 6) no time to die (live version from the Brit’s) 7) your power 8) everybody dies 9) bury a friend 10) “the end of the world” (acoustic live version..not a Billie song..but she made it hers..it’s fucking brilliant)
Great reaction. You earned yourself a new subscriber. Love the format, especially the part where you actually read the lyrics. Despite their great music, they really shine in their lyrics. Very mature for teens writing songs. Metal heads started hating her when she became more popular than headline acts at major music festivals. Her performances are more lit than old-timer metal bands doing the same old stuff. She's new and creative. Hera are examples of her live shows: th-cam.com/video/SxoRryWApic/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/1QZO5EloUtQ/w-d-xo.html
Dave from foo/ Billie from greenday they both did a cover shoot and interview…. And she suffers from sleep paralysis you here in her lyrics, she’s a horror movie fan … I’m a musician bassist, commented B-4 .. rock on 🤘!!!!
If you like to know more about her art, just react/listen the whole album "happier than ever".She is an album artist. You will find the uniqueness and subtlety and obviously talent and creativity throughout the whole album. Also DON'T FORGET to pay attention to the lyrics, lyrics are the heart of her songs and and btw she directs her music videos,so it's all hers.
Billie Eilish is one of the few modern pop artists that have caught my attention. Try Tash Sultana.... she has an appeal to all ages, even some of us old Pink Floyd-loving farts. She made the cover of the Rolling Stone (Aus) this year.
I love her voice; it's so expressive! She made a comment on James Corden that one of her songs was basically just two notes but she uses them creatively. I think the people who don't like her may be reacting to some of her more graphic videos. These particular songs are not the typical ones that I have heard, maybe she's more laid back than she was in her earlier days? I don't know.
I like Billie Eilish and Finneas. I listened to their first full length album a bunch of times when it came out, definitely a "vibe" as you say. The first song I ever heard was you should see me in a crown and I was like, what is this 😂 then just seeing her style in music videos, I was a fan that she wasn't super "sexy" like so many female pop artists. Not that there's anything wrong with that, more power to you if you feel empowered! But it was refreshing and different. I think she can get overhyped a bit but in general I find her just as talented as hundreds of indie folk/indie pop artists that have similar sounds. Somehow she just blew up and became a "pop star" haha
I’m callin’ it - Billie and Finneas are the Lennon/McCartney of this generation. Also, Billie writes and directs her own videos. One day if we’re lucky, she’ll direct a feature film and win an Oscar for Best Director (and Finneas would get the Oscar for Best Score). Watch (or react to) the NDA and Happier Than Ever videos and you’ll see it’s not all that far-fetched.
Billie is ART. One of a kind, out of this world artist. One of my two favourite artists of all time. The other - the band called Leprous, check them out - you won't be disappointed. Might start from their tracks At The Bottom or Bonneville or Observe The Train or Painful Detour or Passing, or the best song from the new album - Have You Ever?
I'm not familiar with Billie Eilish at all, so I'm doing a first reaction too. Rick Beato is GREAT. I always learn from him. So, I'm not falling in love with her, and I think that is because the things she is singing about are not things that I am going through at my point in life. I can see how someone going through the experiences she is singing about would really love her songs. Her voice is beautiful, her vocal control is great, it's the song itself that does not speak to me, but I'd be interested to hear what else she does. She's very young, she has years and years to explore all of the different avenues she can go down. Hmm. I like the lyrics a lot. I do like precise enunciation, maybe it's her slurring of the words that I don't care for. The description of her childhood is disturbing. Every child has to learn to deal with separation anxiety, Allowing your child to sleep in your bed year after year is not a healthy way to help your child deal with it. She is still struggling to find her independence, the lyrics of the song are hopeful, but the tone of the music is not. I hope she doesn't follow Karen Carpenter's path. I'm sorry to hear that anyone would make fun of her.
Everyone has their own tastes, but you hearing so much Billie hate is puzzling. She and Finneas are the real deal. She has a depth beyond her years and beyond most pop music I hear. Her voice is absolutely mesmerizing and emotional to me. Sure, she has a few songs geared more towards the teeny and younger crowd, but there is plenty of music in her repertoire that is genuine, deep, and emotional regardless of your age. Definitely worth a deep dive.
Okay. Billie and her brother Finneas were amazing together. I enjoyed her singing in this (Tiny Desk) Concert. The support & friendship I saw between Sister Billie and Brother Finn was so wonderful to see. Hearing these two songs Billie’s vocals sounded like an old soul. Good reaction, Daniel. 😀
I can only enjoy Billie in small doses but fully recognize her talent and that she and Finneas have crafted some very good music. Finneas is definitely getting recognition on his own both as a performer (he just did his first solo tour) and a songwriter and producer. He has said he'll always tour with Billie as well. They are incredibly close siblings.
You should react to her singing "No Time to Die" live at the Brit Awards. She knocked it out of the park. What's crazy is that in an interview just before the show, she was worried about not being able to sing it. She's so humble. A great rising star. You should react to his latest "Only a Lifetime"
Great reaction Daniel. And if you want to get the full contrast, see their full range, and understand why they are walking away with multiple Grammy awards, I would absolutely check out their performance of No Time to Die (James Bond Theme at the Brit Awards) - th-cam.com/video/2I1ZU5g1QNo/w-d-xo.html and her video for Happier than ever (other music video or the performance on Jimmy Fallon, unedited version) - th-cam.com/video/5GJWxDKyk3A/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/kt-BMjO232I/w-d-xo.html
Really enjoyed this, thanks! Big Billie fan, so there’s almost nothing she does that I don’t like. I’d love to hear your reaction to any of her songs (subbed, so I’ll know if you upload a new one!) but listen to her cover of You Don’t Get Me High Anymore, by Phantogram. That’s a good one. Another good one - highly underrated, IMO - “When I Was Older”. Ok, going to check out some of your other reactions now. 🙂 Cheers!
she's amazing, I think you should check out her vanity fair interview the fifth year, she also has a documentary on apple tv+ called "the world's a little blurry" I reccomend watching her live concerts, her energy is amazing. she released a music video for her song male fantasy off her album happier than ever like 2 days ago. i think you'd really enjoy her song happier than ever, aswell as I didn't change my number and overheated, there's alot you have to discover, her whole discography is amazing and very versatile nothing sounds the same
I would love for you to watch their DNC live performance. More upbeat and really beautiful. Outside in the woods. She dances around and it’s just flawless
Choosing this as a first representation of Billie Eilish is cool... But it totally doesn't show what Billie is about, this is like a un-plugged version and does not represent the songs unless you've already heard the studio version production (which are very different) Actually most in the metal & Rock community LOVES ! Billie Eilish. Her studio versions are way more important to listen to because Finneas's productions are a huge part of her music and to see her official Videos is another huge part of her total artistry If your going to do a live performance do Billie's cover of Michael Jackson's BAD I don't feel this reaction is a true representation of why all ages love Billie (I'm 61 years old Classic Rock guy & Billie's album "WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WERE DO WE GO ?" Change my life) Here's some suggestions: Please react to Official videos of "When the partys over" / Bury a Friend / "You should see me in a crown" (vertical version only) / " idontwanttobeyouanymore " (vertical version only) OR THE OFFICIAL VIDEO OF "HAPPIER THAN EVER" Which song chances are, she will perform on SNL this weekend Thank you so much for your reactions appreciated you so much !
First I've heard by her as well. She's obviously very talented and has a lovely, interesting voice, but to me the noisy breathing on the first song was super-distracting. It got to the point where I started losing track of the song and was just bracing myself for the next unpleasantly loud inhale. And then that ruined the second song for me as well, because even though her breathing was not nearly so noticeable on that song, I found myself tensing up again and again, waiting to hear it. I didn't *want* to react that way - it was like the first song had trained me well! So I will take a break and try the second song again another time, maybe it won't bother me so much then. Otherwise I would have really liked this. Anyone know if that's a deliberate part of her performance style, in general?
@@apollokickz I'm not sure "raw" is the word I'd use; it sounded deliberately forced to me. Just my impression - perhaps unfair. But I went back today and listened to the second song all the way through; it's terrific.
@@sharonm6262 breathing does take a large part in her music, but i think the mics were especially turned up for the quietness of this particular performance. Generally speaking her breathing isnt SO apparent. I would recommend you take a look at a few of her deep cuts from her various albums. Her and finneas' musical variety is very inspiring to me.
I have heard maybe 10 songs or so by Billie. I have enjoyed most of them but I choose to listen to her only once in awhile. Personally, my favorite artists provide a lot of diversity with their sound. Billie has her own unique sound (I have heard she is a big fan of Aurora which would make sense) but there is not much diversity in the sound from one song to the next.
You must not be listening to the same Billie ? Her whole thing is diversity from Crown to partys over to wish you were gay to James bond theme to I love you including many different time signatures from rock to blues to waltz Thanks I'm not attacking just sharing
@@Stinger_tbx As I said I have only listened to about 10 songs. Her unique style didn't have much variation to it. The themes of the songs were different, I enjoy listening to her but just in small doses.
I’d like Daniel to react to Aurora. I started to listen to her 4-5 years ago and haven’t stopped. She just performed in NYC but I had a conflict and couldn’t go. She’ll be back in the summertime!
Interesting duo. If you like these two you will like Lewis Capaldi. Brilliant Scottish singer/songwriter. A voice like no other. Better live than studio. Nominated for the same Grammys as Billie. Here he is doing a cover of Billie's "The Party's Over": th-cam.com/video/17_7ZsJV6mY/w-d-xo.html
I agree that it's crazy to say that she cannot sing. Her voice is unique, and the way she expresses emotions, plus the deep lyrics, is more than enough proof that she is an outstanding artist. But I can understand people who do not like her songs. As mentioned by other commentators, all her songs I've heard so far have a similar vibe, and though I really enjoyed this small concert, a whole album of this would leave me depressed or at least in a bad mood...
I can listen to Leonard Cohen's beautiful albums (my age group called him suicide music) all day long, but couldn't sit through one of hers, I have tried and tried, but nope
I love Finneas, but his solo albums are not nearly as ground-breaking and critically acclaimed as his works with Billie. I do think that Billie's ecleticism, vision, and voice is really half of the reasons why they're successful.
@@MHonari Yes, this 100%. I’ll be honest … I love Finneas as an all round wonderful human and an incredibly talented producer, but I cannot listen to his music. Im almost ashamed to say I actually really really dislike it. So sorry, Fin! To me, Billie brings the art and Finneas brings the craft.
I like Billie Eilish and her brother, he is a great producer so far. Maybe they are a little bit TOO successful... but i don't care that much about that. That being said... i liked her first album more. The second album gets a little bit too same-y.
I’ve tried to like her but just cannot. Not when I compare her to other current female singers. Aurora might be closest to this vibe, but I think so much better.
I notice that you concentrate on older music/artists, so you get all my age group 66 praising you for listening to our era, then when you choose to react to a modern young artist, of all the people you choose Billie Eilish, I love listening to new music, but she is the most boringly monotonous singer today, I have tried many times to listen to her music, but just can't, so over rated in my opinion, give people a try, like Harry Styles, Yungblud, Years and Years, Jessie J, Lady Ga Ga, Mabel, 5SOS, Twenty One Pilots, sorry I could go on and on with better examples than Billie Eilish,
She definitely has a yesteryear vibe in her music. Her voice is a throwback to the great singers of the 40s and 50s, but updated. Tremendous emotional power. I can hear why so many people like her. I think I need to hear more.
Hi Dan,
Haters are going to hate. Billie is amazing! No auto tune needed!
One of the best singers around at the moment. Her voice has a classic vibe to it in the style of Billie Holliday, whilst being modern at the same time. Gives me goosebumps and I'm a 56 years old rock fan.

I cannot help but adore her work, and her personality. Her brother's no slouch, either.
She sounds like a blues singer.. would love her to cover stormy weather or someone to watch over me.
I’m 44 years old and I’m going to see her live in February. First time. Can’t wait!
I think she has a great voice

Massive Billie Eilish fan. Lots of the negative reaction has more to do with over-exposure in the media.
She’s one of our biggest pop stars for a very good reason. I was intrigued from the first moment I heard her voice, in Bury a Friend.
Amazing vocals totally original / Billie and finn truly a match … .. Goth/pop
I loved this reaction! you were so understanding of the lyrics and it really felt like you were feeling the music. it was great.
and also thank u for saying that you don't understand how poeple say she can't sing because honestly idk either. she has the most angelic voice ever
In this less produced setting these songs are quite enjoyable.

I reccomend watching her live concerts, her energy is amazing. she released a music video for her song male fantasy off her album happier than ever like 2 days ago. i think you'd really enjoy her song happier than ever, aswell as I didn't change my number and overheated, there's alot you have to discover, her whole discography is amazing and very versatile nothing sounds the same
I would love for you to watch their DNC live performance. More upbeat and really beautiful. Outside in the woods. She dances around and it’s just flawless
I have a song for you. "Faith" by the Mahavishnu Orchestra from the album Visions of the emerald beyond. The tune is two minuets long.
If you enjoy this you may want to listen to Jo Stafford's "You Belong To Me". It has similar roots.
Listen to happier then ever song
Choosing this as a first representation of Billie Eilish is cool... But it totally doesn't show what Billie is about, this is like a un-plugged version and does not represent the songs unless you've already heard the studio version production (which are very different)
Actually most in the metal & Rock community LOVES ! Billie Eilish. Her studio versions are way more important to listen to because Finneas's productions are a huge part of her music and to see her official Videos is another huge part of her total artistry
If your going to do a live performance do Billie's cover of Michael Jackson's BAD
I don't feel this reaction is a true representation of why all ages love Billie (I'm 61 years old Classic Rock guy & Billie's album "WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WERE DO WE GO ?" Change my life)
Here's some suggestions:
Please react to
Official videos of "When the partys over" / Bury a Friend / "You should see me in a crown" (vertical version only) / " idontwanttobeyouanymore " (vertical version only)
OR THE OFFICIAL VIDEO OF "HAPPIER THAN EVER" Which song chances are, she will perform on SNL this weekend
Thank you so much for your reactions appreciated you so much !
❤️
My Godess
Anyone know if that's a deliberate part of her performance style, in general?
it’s deliberate yes, these are very raw vocals, whereas on her tours you cannot hear her breathing as much
@@apollokickz I'm not sure "raw" is the word I'd use; it sounded deliberately forced to me.
Her whole thing is diversity from Crown to partys over to wish you were gay to James bond theme to I love you including many different time signatures from rock to blues to waltz
Thanks I'm not attacking just sharing
@@Stinger_tbx As I said I have only listened to about 10 songs. Her unique style didn't have much variation to it. The themes of the songs were different, I enjoy listening to her but just in small doses.
I’d like Daniel to react to Aurora. I started to listen to her 4-5 years ago and haven’t stopped. She just performed in NYC but I had a conflict and couldn’t go. She’ll be back in the summertime!
@@foxandscout I agree Daniel should react to Aurora.
Interesting duo. If you like these two you will like Lewis Capaldi. Brilliant Scottish singer/songwriter. A voice like no other. Better live than studio. Nominated for the same Grammys as Billie.
Here he is doing a cover of Billie's "The Party's Over":

Loved this! Easy sub. I would like to see you check out “when the party’s over”
Actually very few people hate Billie.
Her brother Finneas is the real talent in the family.
Bullshit. They are a team.
You should listen to her end of the work cover she did on bbc
World
I’ve tried to like her but just cannot.
