Tying A Naked Salmon Fly - The Silver Doctor

Naked salmon flies are extremely easy to tie and smaller sizes can act as a great lightly dressed fly for low water salmon fishing. They make for an ideal beginner fly tying pattern also.
This approach could be used for a range of salmon flies on singles, doubles or trebles such as - willie gunns, tosh's and really any basic hairwing salmon fly that uses gold, silver or black bodies.

Nice fly. Your flytying is much better than mine but ive found that if you twist the bucktail or similar when trimming it off you can cut it a lot tighter when trimming off the excess. Hope that makes sense.

I think this fly fishes better with a keel and pipe cleaner. I stack hair, reversed tied. I like how it pushes water. Add flash if you like.

Very cool fly! What other color combinations of bucktail do you recommend for this fly?

Thanks very much 👍 the most popular would probably be Willie Gunn colours in orange,yellow and black. I've also tied silver stoats and add a little tag of globrite leaving the body naked on a silver hook. Red and yellow bucktail will also make a nice Gary dog style fly on a black hook 🎣
