I can never get enough of this Jazz Calypso on MR. RECORDER. The melody is well delivered; the improvisation expertly combines Jazz and Calypso elements. It's my suspicion that the recorder player is also a saxophonist. I adore and admire the improvisation - every bit of it; feel, phrasing, statements, Jazz and Calypso swing...
Thank you very much! I'm just the bass player, but he would say thank too. :) Yes, your suspicion is right, he's a saxophone player! :) Type in his name on youtube: "Mits Marci" and you'll find a lot of videos! :)
I love this! I've never heard a recorder played like that before! The bass is super tight, too. If you haven't already done so, check out this guy's other vids. His band is ridiculous. Also, 1:46 on the bass is insane.
i can't even count how many times i've watched this. amazing enough just to play the recorder that well, then to have all those amazing licks. once i saw them play in their jazz band and on the sax it made more sense. this is one of the grooviest coolest things i've ever seen and heart
This is really GREAT!!!! I tried many times to tell my friends that the recorder is a cool instrument - now there is concrete proof! Brilliant. Long live the Jazz Recorder...!
Felt like I was watching a '60s Disney movie. Great stuff! I think the recorder is very well suited for this sort of music. It gives a very innocent, straightforward tone.
wow very nice, good walking and incorporation of more "modern" bass without losing that feel of walking or the "groove".... and to kovacs... nice improvisation
Seeing two cats communicate like that is always nice. That was something else brother. If you can knock out Countdown or Giant Steps with that thing your hired. Keep the gas pedal down. Cheers.
i've seen a lot and heard a lot, but i've never seen anyone do what you did to that recorder. the most i've ever played on a recorder is hot cross buns. you are a musician!!
I love playing lots of instruments and ive always had a recorder sitting around so ive been looking for something to play on the recorder and i've finally found this! Finally something i like on the recorder! Great job!
Great! I'm a guitar teacher from Holland. Some of my pupils started with the recorder when they were a kid and say they hated it! I started with the recorder when I was already 47 years old! And I like it. So… I just showed one of my pupils your video that recorder can be great too! Nice work from you guys! Maybe you can play Lôro from Egberto Gismonti. I made a transcription for soprano recorder, bass and chords, but I can't play it, because my recorder skills are poor! I can send you the transcription if you want.
Fantastic !!!! :) My friend commented that it sounded like the beginning of the movie "Gangs of New York" (it's a tin whistle playing..) but he was impressed nonetheless :) He also doesn't have much of music background Thanks alot! :) Congrads for making it so lively memorable! :)
Thanks for watching! If you like it, please subscribe to my channel, it would help me a lot, thank you! :)
Yes, oh yes, subscribed
I found this 13 years ago and come back every couple years and it’s still the coolest thing ever!!

12 years after, please make another video playing St. Thomas again, and let's see the difference.
We've been thinking about that. Maybe we will... ;)
