Man, this is really helpful. I'm an motor mechanic apprentice and I have college phases I need to go to. For reference, I live in Ireland. And student accomodation is really expensive here so I'm building a caravan for myself and water is really hard around here. So I was looking for water softening solutions for the plumbing in my caravan. This isgonna be so fricken practical. Its actually unreal. Thanks so much

I’ve wanted to get one of these systems for the final rinse while cleaning both the Rv and boat. What did this system do to the taste and feel of the water? We had a soft water system at a home years ago and the pipes were in great shape but showering and taste was not very good

I honestly havent noticed a huge difference but there is a slight change in taste. We use a berkey anyways, so any weird taste is pretty much taken care of by that thing haha. Might clog it up a bit more, but gets the job done. Thanks for watching - Shane

Thanks! For sure, this is the one I got on amazon that seemed to have good reviews. There are lots of other similar ones like it though out there. Can't say how much the quality changes between models because I haven't tested the others, but some are cheaper.

I am looking at buying this... Is the one you bought the 8,000 grain model?

I believe so, I think it is just labeled as their standard model. They have larger models as well though. - Shane

Do you put softener system before water filtration system or other way around.

I think, but not sure, that it depends on the type of filteration system you have. Technically I don't think we are supposed to run softened water through our Berkey because it can clog the pores of the filter...but we have just tried to stay on top of cleaning the filters. And cleaning them more often. I do run our inline filter prior to the softener though since those are pretty cheap to replace. - Shane

Is this only a water softener or is this also a water filter?

This is just a water softener, nothing too fancy.

Me too as I can't remember the exact ratio I used from vinegar to water. I know it was one of the stronger cleaning white vinegars though. I ended up diluting it with water, pumping it throughout all our RV lines and even putting some in the hot water tank because that is where a lot of the mineral build up was taking place too. I let it sit in the RV over night (was a bit more difficult because we were still living in the RV at the time), but just that one night got most of the gunk cleaned off the lines. I then flushed out the entire system with water for a while to make sure there wasn't any remaining in the lines (probably wouldn't taste too great). Every RV is different so I can't give super specific instructions, but basically I just avoided filling the entire fresh water tank because that would have use a TON of vinegar. That probably still needs cleaned out at some point, but I avoided it because I only had so much vinegar with me. Love Your RV has a great channel that goes into a lot more details:
