Welcome to all of you Nightwish Army soldiers! I'm excited to join the ranks and begin my journey. Many of you have mentioned that I picked the wrong version of this song but in some ways I'm glad I chose it. This is Floor's beginning with the group and it makes her performance that much more impressive. Those who have watched my reactions know that I very much try to connect with the artist and follow their journey from their beginning to the present day. I also do my best to understand and feel each song's message and analyze the vocal aspects of each performance. So, now I can move on to the 2013 version and beyond and continue the journey. For those who are from the pre-Floor camp, I will also be going back to see some of the Tarja performances as well. I'm specifically planning on contrasting the two Phantom versions for one thing. Thank you for all the awesome suggestions and information and welcome to my channel.
Thanks Josh. From both a personal and Nightwish Army perspective, that's great news! Like so many of us, you will hopefully be enthralled with yet another singing phenomenon and band.
YESSS! I am an Opera singer, on theater stages since 1997, but I love Nightwish and Floor. They are an amazing band all with immense qualities, Floor is the icing on the cake that made them reach the magnificence. They did so many songs wonderful. You absolutely have to watch Tampere, Argentina, Wacken and Wembley concerts !!!
best to stay with Wacken playlist for a bit, her performance of Phantom of the Opera & Vilja Lied is from Beste Zangers 2019 a Dutch tv show filmed on Ibeza, some top Dutch singers get together & sing each others songs ( or songs that hold meaning) back top the original singers but reinterpreted : Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera | Beste Zangers 2019 :th-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/w-d-xo.html Floor Jansen sings Vilja Lied for Henk Poort, Beste Zangers 2019 (eng subs : th-cam.com/video/k4Bp7exJufs/w-d-xo.html Floor Jansen sings Shallow for Emma Heesters Beste Zangers 2019 Eng. Thank you!!! I love what I'm hearing or should I say reading. I'm looking forward to your Phantom reactions. Very interesting to see how you see those two performances compared to each other. To me the Nightwish version is The one, because it is heavier, it's ROCK! Some, many like Floor and Henk better. Someone said Andrew Loyd Webber told he liked the Nightwish 2005 version. Can't verify that. Wacken 2013, Tampere 2015, Wembley Arena 2015, Buoenos Aires 2018 are full of great songs performances, Helsinki 2005 too. See you!
A lot of us fans will tell you that the Wacken version is perfection...it is, BUT this is also a great version, and I love it! The Argentina crowd are sooo passionate and at the end you can tell they connected with their new queen when they chant her name...floor,floor,floor😎🤟 Also if you want to hear Floor sing stripped back then check out the planet rock acoustic versions of Nemo and How’s the Heart 😁
Hello @ SingerDad Reacts ! Nightwish fans here, your reaction just appeared on our radar.. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2012 at Buenos Aires (Argentina) with Floor Jansen, their 3rd (and still present) female main singer who just joined several month before this concert. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I could see, you understood very well all that happened in that show. You felt the enormous wave of energy, as well as the special qualities of the singer and the band members, as well as the complexity of the composition. The comparison with "Bohemian Rhapsody" was on point imo. The good news is that all their performances are of an extraordinary good quality level :) I enjoyed your reaction, and I expect many, many more. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hope you'll continue this journey with us, so I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like: "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) th-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/w-d-xo.html "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) th-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/w-d-xo.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) th-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/w-d-xo.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) th-cam.com/video/lQu5QjidHWg/w-d-xo.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) th-cam.com/video/S8E3L7ggLMM/w-d-xo.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) th-cam.com/video/05eitd-EA6I/w-d-xo.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) th-cam.com/video/knqeI807ZlY/w-d-xo.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Tampere 2015 (ballad) th-cam.com/video/rsotlzr9wNw/w-d-xo.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) th-cam.com/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/w-d-xo.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) th-cam.com/video/wA44tjaP5n0/w-d-xo.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) th-cam.com/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/w-d-xo.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) th-cam.com/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/w-d-xo.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) th-cam.com/video/AN239Pbqbjo/w-d-xo.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) th-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/w-d-xo.html And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Wembley 2015 th-cam.com/video/vyLsU7Q333k/w-d-xo.html Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html You can also react to Floor Jansen "tapping" other musical genres in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from Netherlands), here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listen it in reverse order..): th-cam.com/play/PL8iSYWeQhlimgUnWw1FDdiJN0msPzqpLo.html To understand better the context of this show you should visit also Jenniezelf's YT channel (En subtitled materials): th-cam.com/users/jenniezelf For entire episodes of the show with En translation, you should check Denise Hofs's DM channel: www.dailymotion.com/xpinkeu/videos Thank you! Gabriel, I really think you should start with "Nightwish Army here, your reaction..." You've certainly earned the right to call yourself one of the leaders of our army.
@@gabriel.bardac I think you are a very humble and honest person and I respect that a lot. That said, let me tell you this: you might not feel yourself as a leader, but I think you should be considered the *flag-bearer* of the Nightwish's fan base. I'm sure no one could be more fitted than you in this role... Thanks for your efforts! 👋🇮🇹🖖 Edit: my grammar sucks, sometimes...😅
here he is :D i Think i can speak for most of the people here, we are all verry greatfull for the work u put in to tell reactors about nightwish. dont think any of the reactors would learn to get a grip of the band as fast as they do if it wasnt for u. So Thank You Verry Much for all the time u put in.
@@flaviovergottini652 @MsStecarl About the leadership - Tuomas said it better: "I, too, wish to be a decent manboy but all I am / Is smoke and mirrors / Still given everything, may I be deserving" - that verses hitted me hard.. I'm glad I can do something obviously useful, helping new reactors understand where they are and where to go.
Sidenote: at this show Floor had been with the band only for a few months (at Wacken 2013, just a few months later she was a lot more comfortable with the songs and added a few extra personal spins to them), since she was called in to take over the lead singer role mid-tour due to health issues of the previous singer of the band - she learned the set list in a rush (there is actually a documentary about that called: 'Please learn the set list in 48 hours' if you're curious:) Now since you mentioned 'stripping back' the instruments and imagining a more 'a-cappella' experience of her vocals, recently she and Troy (the multi-instrumentalist of the band that joined the band roughly at the same time as her) did 2 acoustic renditions of Nightwish songs for Planet rock ('Nemo' an older Nightwish song and 'How's the heart' from their latest album released this April) with just Floor and Troy's classic guitar and slight backing vocals - you might enjoy those:) Additionally as some others mentioned, Nightwish did a fantastic cover of Pink floyd's 'High hopes', showcasing more of their male vocalist/bassist (Marco), which you might also enjoy:) ...and since you mentioned Heart, Floor did a great cover of 'Alone' with her previous band (and in more recent solo shows). Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Nightwish and Floor Jansen; enjoy the trip:)
Her first concert with them was Seattle October 1st, and this was taken either December 14 or 15. You can see Emppu rocking out when she nails the final note and he has a huge smile on his face. He is enjoying it as much as the fans.
@@galadballcrusher8182 pretty much agree except that IMO the cuts are a little too quick and bounce around more than necessary and I'd especially like longer shots of Floor!
"God created music and said it was good....." "Then he created Nightwish and he smiled for it was great....." "Then God created Floor Jansen and he dropped the mic...." "For he had created Perfection"
Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6'1" Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage. Sure, there are singers who can do any of the things she does better than her, but there's only one who can do all of them and sound great doing it all.
Your last line is the point. Floor is like a decathlon athlete in singing. With a few specialties near world record level. Coincidentally and funny, another Dutch woman giant did/does exactly that, former heptathlon athlete and now world level sprinter Daphne Schippers.
Taking a moment to let you know that you earned my subscription. Not because I like this song and you like this song, but because you rightfully discovered the intricacies of this song as it unfolded. Every point of your analysis was spot on for the moment. Congrats on being part of the minority of TH-camrs that demonstrably know their shit. Thanks for your efforts, and for doing what you do.
I second a reaction to her Phantom of the Opera alongside Henk Poort in Beste Zangers. Henk Poort is her idol, and you can tell by how well they fit together too that she's really been taking from him and it explains a lot about how she sings I think.
Tuomas is among the best of the true composers present and past he has brought forth in most likelihood the most talented group of our time as for floor no one has yet to see or hear all the tools in her toolbox her talent has no boundaries
Welcome to the Nightwish army my friend. That note at the end is what we call a Floorgasm. You will not be disappointed with any song they do. Always listen to live concerts particularly Wacken ,Wembley ,Tampere and Buenos Aires 2018. BTW Floor is a vocal coach aswell. Also have a look at a Dutch show Beste Zangers 2019 in which singers sing each others songs. Floor was awesome in this and just shows how versatile she is.
I reckon the floorgasm is not Floor's end note, but the bodily reactions you have when listening to Flooe singing: the chills and goosebumps all over your body, the Wows , OMGs and Cools, the tears, and so on. Kind regards, Wim
I am a big fan of Tarja. However, when I heard this song I was completely blown away. And I come back to this performance again and again, and every time I get goosebumps and sometimes even tears. Its the only performance that got me to tears, actually... The most powerful sung song that I have ever heard.
Welcome in the Nightwish Family 🤗 and congrats to your first Floorgasm..i swear, when you hear more, its not the last hihi 👍🤗 great reaction friend forget, when Floor do headbanging, it called the dutch windmill
Or this version with piano. The clapping at the start of the other one got in the way - but i haven't listened right through yet. th-cam.com/video/EpxOKueE-_0/w-d-xo.html
Awesome Reaction And You mentioned Pat Benatar 👍👍👍 I'll like to add Blondie, Joanne Jet and LITA FORD, Doro And of course Miss Floor Jansen Queen of Metal 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 I'll look forward to The Song Shoemaker and the history behind the song... I can't wait to see this song live....
Floor tweeted this If I hadn't had passionate music teachers in my high school, I might never have started singing. I was the bullied, insecure kid who dreamt of singing without knowing that I had a voice for it. "Because of my dedication at school I dared to crawl out of my shell and started to sing! I became more confident of myself and made friends and was forever in love with music. "Nothing is as wonderful and honest as making music together. Nothing connects as music can. Music education is therefore very important for many reasons. Floor's Wiki Bio Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. After After Forever split up she started teaching performing in her own course called Wanna be a Star?! She used to play the guitar, piano and flute and has completed several years of music studies. From the age of 16 all during this period she was fronting the the Band Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997 until they disbanded in 2009. She then did vocal coaching and formed her own band called Revamp which officially broke up in 2016 because of Floor's commitment to Nightwish. The RockAcademy in the Netherlands is an actual Bachelors degree, conservatory style, but focusing on the rock/pop industry. phantom of the opera Floor Jansen and Henk Poort th-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/w-d-xo.html
Floor hits a D6, her last note, on Beste Zangers singing Phantom Of The Opera with Andrew Lloyd Weber's fave Phantom, Dutch baritone-tenor Henk Poort. Floor took opera lessons in her teen years and that's where she found Henk and he became her idol. Floor has not sung much opera since her 20s, preferring the Symphonic Metal genre, but she can sing any genre. I believe her range is from Alto to high Soprano, encompassing four octaves. Welcome to the greatest Symphonic Metal band Nightwish!! We're glad to have you! :-)
versatile vocalist, Jansen can sing from ethereal, classical and operatic singing, to powerful belting, and aggressive, raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. She is a soprano. Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. Later, she started teaching ...Great reaction !
Great analysis to this most epic performance and welcome to the wonderful world of symphonic metal an Nightwish. Floor Jansen is the most versatile singer. She can sing anything. And yet her best asset as a singer is not her flawless techniques than her ability to use them as tools of conveying emotions. Greetings from Finland!
Every time I listen to it I'm like flowing to the heaven. Also, I always appreciate the quality of their life performances, they do the same quality and timing, which shows their professionalism, but in the same time the they add some "colors", some little details, so it is always a fun, also people most like the version from WACKEN 2013
I love how the vocalist gets to build up the crowd and then has to deliver. It is a promise from the vocalist to the audience and when you nail the final note the pay off is amazing. And then the band carries it home.
Wow, nice reaction for a first time !! Be prepared to receive A LOT of feedback on it ;-) Wait a little bit more, I don't want to steal Gabriel's duty, he'll soon show up and give you all the informations you need about all the Nightwish background and the member's sideprojects... Your analysis and comments were totally on point and very interesting (it seems you even caught the "Floor ! Floor !" chanted by the crowd at the end :-) New sub here for sure, can't wait for more !!
Welcome to Nightwish. As someone has already mentioned, Gabriel will likely be along shortly with a helpful background and “map” if you would like to continue your exploration. Enjoy!
Nice reaction. Genre is symphonic metal. Interesting in this performance is that Floor has just joined to Band(temporary singer) 2 month before to replace previous singer during tour. Majority of audience havet never hear of her and end of the song you hear crowd shouting her name:). Floors Phantom of Opera performance in Beste Zangers tv show is Nightwish version, but Floor have never sing it in Nightwish. Band have performed it only their first singer Tarja(20005). More Nightwish: Poet and pendelum(live Wembley 2015, Greatest show on Earth(Wembley or Tampere 2015 live) and dead boys poem(live Buonos Aires 2018)
Ok nightwish covering Pink Floyd needs to be an official worldwide announcement, not a TH-cam comment next time. This is the most important news of 2020 ... don’t just sneak it in when no ones looking!
I've seen so many coaches reaction to nightwish. They all point out her classical training. Never once mention. Without talent the training means nothing. With her being a empath and a natural singer. The training and coaching only polished the diamond of her voice. Crazy thing is this is first time they put this song back in the playlist. An Floor had only been with the band for 2 months. You should check out the performance at Wacken 2013. They had more time to be together. An made it even better.
Nightwish has the six most perfectly matched members in the band, each one compliments the other and they form one of the most cohesive musical units in the world. They do not make mistakes in their shows, they have the ability to control a crowd no matter how small or how large(Wacken 2013m 82,000 fans)
Yes her beste zangers songs are great she has several genres covered there another thing is nightwish covers many genres sometimes within a single song. Poet and the pendulum is one such song greatest show on earth is another. Nightwish will keep you bust and surprised the emotional quality Floor sings with will bring goosebumps known as floorgasims have fun
Good reaction. I am a senior citizen, and lifelong musician. I’m also a big fan of Heart and I’ve heard Heart in concert several times. Ann Wilson is brilliant. Floor is a fan of Heart also. I heard Nightwish live in 2015 and 2018, and it was among the best concerts I have ever seen. Enjoy the ride , the Nightwish army will help you along. New sub.
This is called symphonic metal. If want to hear something amazing Floor Jansen and Henk Poort singing "Phantom Of The Opera" it is from a Dutch show called Beste Zanger's means Best Singers, not really a competition it is more just a small group of singers, really good show, no drama just good music. And looking forward to the next Angelina reaction also.
@@Heldal86 this was before the wacken in 2013 so she was just a fieuw moments on bord whit the band.. so she did a hell off a job.. and yes wacken is a little better but this one is also incredeble
@@rilenevanderzon7929 Yup, this kinda gives a better perspective of the performance. It's always nice to see her nail it, but this definitely isn't bad in any way.
Floor is Dutch and weird to say, she became well known in Holland when she took a part of the "Beste zangers 2019" show. On that show you can see how versatile she is with singing rock, opera, Dutch folk, latin and even a country like song. The Phantom of the Opera with the real Dutch Phantom Henk Poort is very well reviewed and watched. th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=floor+jansen+beste+zangers
Vilja Lied is german and not dutch. But well these 2 languages are almost the drunk versions of each other...Don't know which one is the drunk though 🤣
Nice reaction!! As others have mentioned, this show was just after Floor was parachuted into the band partway through a tour (she had 48 hours to fly from Europe and learn the setlist!!), the live show at Wacken 2013 about 4-6 months later is the definitive version of this song. In fact, any song from that show is an absolute banger! Get ready for an influx of the Nightwish army, be aware they have had some difficult times in the past, especially when it came to parting ways with their original and second singer and it can be a bit of a hot topic of discussion when it comes to people's opinions about who is best (imho there is no best, people just have favourites and get a bit defensive about it). You'll find many recommendations heading your way, a lot of them are shorter more punchy songs (Romantacide, Song of Myself, Yours is an Empty Hope where Floor does the death metal growl) and some borderline Celtic ballad (The Islander where Floor sings backing vocals!), right up to their opus tracks, Poet and the Pendulum and Greatest Show on Earth. You mentioned Phantom - certainly look that one up as it's with there original singer (and look up the Pink Floyd cover "High Hopes" from that same show as it highlights the bassist Marko's singing) but Floor has done a version as well for the a TV show recently so hopefully she they might bring it back into their main setlist. Have fun diving head first down the Nightwish rabbit hole!!!
Thank you kindly for your fantastic reaction! :). As mentioned by others, Floor had operatic training, namely musical theatre and classical (3 years in total), but before she did that, she also attended the Rock Academy for 3 years. She has been a vocal coach too, until professional singing did not leave her enough time anymore. Floor also played guitar, flute and piano., but I have no idea whether she still does. She is a self-confessed vocal tech-nerd, in that she knows exactly how to treat her voice correctly for essentially any style and any type of music, and any type of emotion to be expressed. She is a soprano, and easily reaches anything from A3 to D6, can do growls, belt, and sing "normally" obviously :). As a committed perfectionist she practices this until it appears to be easy and simple. I think this is why she fits so well with the band, as they all are perfectionists, and Tuomas is probably the uber-perfectionist :). And Tuomas doesn't just write songs, to be very honest, he is a composer, he writes symphonies. While you're at it, you might just as well check all the songs she performed in the show series, just to get an idea of the different styles she used. Essentially, there appears to be nothing she cannot do :). Anyway, thank you again for your reaction, and enjoy! Kind regards, Wim
You have taken a performance when she was a replacement singer for just about 2 month - mid touring without any preperation. During that time she added and changed something to the original song and at the time of this performance, as good as it is, it was not the rounded performance as it ended up. You should watch the wacken 2013 performance to see how this was transformed to perfection. Yes, she is classically trained and yes she has so much more to show than this single song. Phantom of the opera is indeed a good song to go forward. "Poet of the pendulum" would be displaying her capabilities of her voice and breath control as well. "Song of myself", "Storytime", "Yours is an empty hope" are awesome as well as she will show you how versitile she is.
She has already changed the song and has her stage costume. The timing is also right. Everything essential is there. Only the stage and performance is smaller.
@@Mischnikvideos Yes, and the big smile on Emppu's face says it all, they already know that they found the missing link and hit the jackpot with Floor.
@@markschattefor6997 Yes, 2.5 months after Anette was kicked out, it looks like Nightwish never had another singer. And not even a temporary emergency solution.
I see you were pondering the lyrics at the start. Don't worry, I suspect most of the fans do too. Tuomas, on keyboards, writes most of the music and lyrics. He thinks of himself as a poet, which he is, and enjoys being obscure and making us work for the meanings. Some words that appear, again and again, in his lyrics are: blue, white, snow, wolves, oceans, seas, moon, pain, love, child, angel, soul, beast, beauty, heavens, loneliness and sometimes lust. Tuomas often lays his soul bare, but the later albums reflect, I think, a mature man who has found a level of peace and happiness that has allowed him to focus on the bigger picture. This is, of course, just my reflection.
Thank you for the reaction! NW is the best symphonic metal. They use backtrack of real orchestra and keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen is the musical genius behind their music. You probably could listen Poet and the pendulum , but find the subtitled one and it would be a good idea to research the lyrics of that masterpiece ( 5 parts) what it tells about. I am not recommending their more heavy stuff since that is not to your liking. Glad you appreciated the whole band also because it is the combination of them that makes NW magical ❤️
Great reaction welcome to the world of symphonic metal. You were correct on Floor Jansen, she is classically trained, she studied opera for one year and musical theatre for one year. Also Floor is a vocal coach. She's exceptionally gifted and talented
No it is not and Floor is just a very talented human being, that's it. Please do not speak for me. If it is a religion for you, speak in your name and leave the rest of us out of it.
the band exists since 1996. floor joined just eight month before this concert. the genre is called "symphonic metal". thank you for your fine and informative reaction.
Gratulations from Nightwish army - no matter who You hear and who's voice You go throught... We visit here to support and if some wannabe wants to put u down: if someone can't accept opinion difference... 'They are welcome to listen their favorite with headphones and volume full... this not the right place to start nonstop neverending quarrel, please
Loved your reaction. Wacken 2013 was her best performance of this and she just keeps getting better, if that is possible. In terms of reacting to Floor anything she sings won't disappoint. Winner, Villa Lied and Phantom of the Opera on Beste Zangers or Seven Days to The Wolves, Ghost River and Yours Is An Empty Hope for Nightwish are just some of their great songs 😀👍
Floor and Sohyang are a natural pair. I think I was the one who made the request there. Thanks for taking it seriously! 😊 Here's the Phantom of the Opera performance: th-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/w-d-xo.html
Nice reaction, Floor is Dutch, and she was on the Rock Academie and has also some classical training, Ghost Love Score from the official live performance from Wacken 2013, you can hear here voice a lot better.Floor is a singer/songwriter/vocal teacher. The live performances from Nightwish with Floor are the best, i only buy the live performances concerts. Floor can sing everything, angelic, opera, pop, rock, metal, a little jazz, she is a perfectionist with here voice. She is like most of the Dutch, down to earth. you can better listen to the concert of 2013 in wacken for here live performances. Nightwish has two great singers, Floor (best female metal singer), and Marco the combination of those two singers is magical. And all the members of the band are great with their own instruments. This is my favorite band on the moment that Floor was in.
Great reaction video dude. Floor Jansen's voice and vocal range are amazing. Plus she's actually been a voice teacher/vocal coach herself in the past. Now I'm completely new to your channel so I don't know if you've already covered this, but I had a suggestion: Take Hold of the Flame (Live in Tokyo 1984 version). What's amazing is that Geoff Tate's natural vocal range is that of a Baritone (about mid-range if I remember correctly), and yet due to years of work and practice and training he gradually extended his voice up to that of a Tenor. And WITHOUT going into Falsetto, but still using Head Voice. And from what I understand he was Classically trained. But regardless, again great reaction video dude. You just got a new subscriber.
The Waken version is indeed awesome but this is 'closer' which is nice too. Don't be too blinkered to different versions and don't be afraid to step away from the 'normal' path. You will always find something. Even the album versions offer a refreshing change and there are some incredible songs that just don't get performed. You are missing out if you restrict yourselves. It's Nightwish. You can't go wrong. (There are some uploaded videos put up at the wrong speed ideally, just avoid them)
So nice you have found her. Pronunciation was spot on. She had her musical education at the Herman Brood Rock Academy, but she had classical training as a sideline. Actually she wZ nit generally known in her home country, the Netherlands, till last year, when she took part in a show called Beste Zangers, in which professional singers perform songs that were sung originally by, were written by, or mean something doecisl to one of them. Not a competition but a friendly gettogether. The band that accompanies them is incredible, too. Her colleagues were blown away and the spctators at home as well. She is a beast on stage, but in daily life she is a very modest diwn to earth person who lives with husband and chikd far from the maddening crowd in rural Sweden. All songs she did in the shows are worthwhile watching, so enjoy! Maybe About love I don't know a thing or Mama.
That was my first time hearing that particular performance. I usually listen to the Wacken 2013 performance. I can really tell a difference in Floor's comfort level. She was phenomenal here, however at Wacken she took to another level. Welcome to the Nightwish Army. You are in for an awesome ride.
A Siren of the Sea is a Greek mythological being, I think half bird and half woman, who's song was so beautiful and enamoring that sailors would be lured to their destruction. The sailors would almost be hypnotized to the point where the song's lure would lead them to jumping ship, into the waters, certainly to their deaths. Floor really is the Valkyrie Queen and this band's complexity is that of genius.
This was one of the first live shows Floor performed and she had paractically no time to train any songs, especially with the band, because she jumped in in the middle of the tour.
To be honest, that was one early show of Floor with Nightwish - she had already been a vocal performer and songwriter at that point for over 10 years in her 2 previous bands, After Forever and Revamp.
Yes! Watch the Phantom performance it's really good. Usually these aren't recommended as first timer songs but I think Greatest Show on Earth (Live at Tampere) and Poet and the Pendulum (Wembly) would be right up your alley. Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean (Buenos Aires) is another good one. Very theatrical
Hi Josh! Very good reaction, I enjoyed your calm analysis. Yes, Floor Jansen is classically trained, she's a vocal coach and, as she said of herself, a "vocal techniques nerd"...😅 She can do much more than this, you'll see!😉 My suggestion is "Ever Dream" live from Wacken 2013 festival. Greetings from Italy! 👋🇮🇹🖖
Thanks for your thoughtful and calm positive reaction,. nice with a rest from over the top reactors ! :) I think Floor would be thrilled that you compare her to the singer of Heart! I agree with another commenter that you should do a reaction to Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013, Floor really fully performed the song in her way in that concert. And I also agree on reacting to Epica - Sancta Terra, has to be the retrospect version though. ;)
Floor makes it look and sound almost effortless. Her vocal perfection in these tunes is awesome. Not everyone realizes the sort of skill and ability of working with pitch that it takes to hit these notes with such out front power and not have to sweep a little into that perfect note and have to modulate a little to hit it perfectly. She nails it instantly which creates that epic richness even beyond how excellent the music already is. She’s amazing. And the composition of this stuff!!! It’s incredible!! I think the best description is epic given that genuinely massive wall of perfect sound that come through like an ocean of waves both large and small. The Wacken performance just goes to another level of musical and presentational perfection. In that performance, Floors use of vocal dynamics is just so creamy smooth and perfect, it’s almost hard to believe it was a live performance. This version is awesome. The Wacken version is absolutely stunning if dissected for its bar by bar performance accuracy considering it was friggin live. Not a note missed by anyone, not a drum hit perceptibly out of place, and not one dynamic cue opportunity left unattended. Brilliant. Completely mind blowing and breathtakingly great. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Yeah the wacken version is just outta this world amazing.
best to stay with Wacken playlist for a bit, her performance of Phantom of the Opera & Vilja Lied is from Beste Zangers 2019 a Dutch tv show filmed on Ibeza, some top Dutch singers get together & sing each others songs ( or songs that hold meaning) back top the original singers but reinterpreted : Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera | Beste Zangers 2019 :th-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/w-d-xo.html
Floor Jansen sings Vilja Lied for Henk Poort, Beste Zangers 2019 (eng subs : th-cam.com/video/k4Bp7exJufs/w-d-xo.html
Floor Jansen sings Shallow for Emma Heesters Beste Zangers 2019 Eng. Subs : th-cam.com/video/aZcvTYQ3HRw/w-d-xo.html
The Argentina crowd are sooo passionate and at the end you can tell they connected with their new queen when they chant her name...floor,floor,floor😎🤟
Also if you want to hear Floor sing stripped back then check out the planet rock acoustic versions of Nemo and How’s the Heart 😁
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "

Gabriel, I really think you should start with "Nightwish Army here, your reaction..." You've certainly earned the right to call yourself one of the leaders of our army.
@@cornflowerofsweden1288 Thanks for your kind words. I miss that too, even I don't see myself as a leader. We'll see.

Edit: my grammar sucks, sometimes...😅
here he is :D
i Think i can speak for most of the people here, we are all verry greatfull for the work u put in to tell reactors about nightwish. dont think any of the reactors would learn to get a grip of the band as fast as they do if it wasnt for u.
Sidenote: at this show Floor had been with the band only for a few months (at Wacken 2013, just a few months later she was a lot more comfortable with the songs and added a few extra personal spins to them), since she was called in to take over the lead singer role mid-tour due to health issues of the previous singer of the band - she learned the set list in a rush (there is actually a documentary about that called: 'Please learn the set list in 48 hours' if you're curious:)
Now since you mentioned 'stripping back' the instruments and imagining a more 'a-cappella' experience of her vocals, recently she and Troy (the multi-instrumentalist of the band that joined the band roughly at the same time as her) did 2 acoustic renditions of Nightwish songs for Planet rock ('Nemo' an older Nightwish song and 'How's the heart' from their latest album released this April) with just Floor and Troy's classic guitar and slight backing vocals - you might enjoy those:)
Additionally as some others mentioned, Nightwish did a fantastic cover of Pink floyd's 'High hopes', showcasing more of their male vocalist/bassist (Marco), which you might also enjoy:)
...and since you mentioned Heart, Floor did a great cover of 'Alone' with her previous band (and in more recent solo shows).
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Nightwish and Floor Jansen; enjoy the trip:)
plus the video work in the wacken vid is better i mean lighting , camera.... cuts... etc
⬆️⬆️ *THIS!* ⬆️⬆️
I appreciate this performance a lot, but Wacken is from another planet!😵😳😵
Her first concert with them was Seattle October 1st, and this was taken either December 14 or 15. You can see Emppu rocking out when she nails the final note and he has a huge smile on his face. He is enjoying it as much as the fans.
@@galadballcrusher8182 pretty much agree except that IMO the cuts are a little too quick and bounce around more than necessary and I'd especially like longer shots of Floor!
Jan Kleva Ivančić Agree 2013 Wacken concert is canon for this song. You both see and hear the progress in her performance. She owned the song by then.
"God created music and said it was good....."
"Then he created Nightwish and he smiled for it was great....."
"Then God created Floor Jansen and he dropped the mic...."
"For he had created Perfection"
😊on point 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
...and then Nightwish performed "The Greatest Show On Earth". ; )
I must have that on a T-shirt
Try the Poet and the Pendulum live by Nightwish.
Omg I am a Christian and I approve of this lol.
Agree with both, but Floor is not a giant. She is 183cm, which is only hair more than 6'0". She is just a tall amazon type woman.
For non-europeans that's a giant.
@@oo.llpee.7457 HEHE. Xena princess warrior.
@@corbosman nah, I'm short man myself (165cm), and even I don't consider that a giant.
welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish!
Thank you Dean. I appreciate it. That means a lot. I will continue to improve my reactions and make them more entertaining, educational and impactful.
Dutch Nightwish Army ! Hi World !
I think you would love all of her Beste Zanger's performances. It includes a Phantom of the Opera duet with Hank Poort. You won't be disappointed.
Yeh, and don't forget her solo version of Shallow
I second a reaction to her Phantom of the Opera alongside Henk Poort in Beste Zangers. Henk Poort is her idol, and you can tell by how well they fit together too that she's really been taking from him and it explains a lot about how she sings I think.
Phantom of the Opera is a statement ... one of the best performance of her .....
And O mio babbino caro, she sang years ago in a Dutch TV progam th-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/w-d-xo.html
That's actually how I stumbled on Floor, and then on Nightwish.
If you continue to explore Nightwish.. I'll keep coming back to your channel. :) A whole lot of us, actually.
I like authentic reaction and I think this is one of them.
Tuomas is among the best of the true composers present and past he has brought forth in most likelihood the most talented group of our time as for floor no one has yet to see or hear all the tools in her toolbox her talent has no boundaries
Good! More Nightwish !
I will just never get enough of watching people hearing the lady for the first time
Welcome to the Nightwish army my friend.
@@wimg.2377 yes you are right . Its the reaction to the note and not the note itself. Sorry I was having a Floorgasm at the time I wrote it!!
I am a big fan of Tarja. However, when I heard this song I was completely blown away. And I come back to this performance again and again, and every time I get goosebumps and sometimes even tears. Its the only performance that got me to tears, actually... The most powerful sung song that I have ever heard.
@@wimg.2377 not to mention being unable to say anything else but "wow" and feeling drained from the journey you have just been taken on ;-)

Floor tweeted this
If I hadn't had passionate music teachers in my high school, I might never have started singing.
Floor's Wiki Bio
Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later.

Welcome to Nightwish!
Lovely reaction, I really enjoyed your insight in techniques, I look forward to seeing more Nightwish reactions.
Tears. Every time.

With her being a empath and a natural singer. The training and coaching only polished the diamond of her voice. Crazy thing is this is first time they put this song back in the playlist. An Floor had only been with the band for 2 months. You should check out the performance at Wacken 2013. They had more time to be together. An made it even better.
Actual they put the song back on to the set-list at Floor's request. Because it one of her favorite Nightwish songs. :-)
Nightwish has the six most perfectly matched members in the band, each one compliments the other and they form one of the most cohesive musical units in the world. They do not make mistakes in their shows, they have the ability to control a crowd no matter how small or how large(Wacken 2013m 82,000 fans)
I've been performing for almost 40 years. Floor Jensen busts me up every time. What a star she is.
I reacted to nightwish and im glad i did!!
Yep a must see
A little drama though😂, but it's good
Stl song ..concerto pour une voix... de saint preux... c est magnifique
Take a look at the 2013 live performance in Wacken. It's still a bit better than this one 😉
I was disappointed with this version compared to the Wacken show.
Why we should listen wacken version every time? Did she forget how to sing after that show?
@@mapip4119 No, she just was more "on-point" at that concert. This one is abit off compared to the Wacken-performance...!
And also Floor singing Vilja Lied on Beste Zangers
Vilja Lied is german and not dutch. But well these 2 languages are almost the drunk versions of each other...Don't know which one is the drunk though 🤣
I hope this is the beginning of your Nightwish journey. Prepare for a crowd.
🤘😎🤘
It´s actually nice to hear this live version for a change. All NW live videos are great.

Considering you are interested in Floor's operatic abilities, you could possibly react to Floor Jansen's performances in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from The Netherlands). Here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listening to it in reverse order):

For some more background info you could try here as well (English subs, intros, and comments afterwards):

You could also search dailymotion for "Beste Zangers 2019", or AVROTROS Beste Zangers 2019 for the originals, without intros etc.
This does include the Phantom of the Opera duet with Henk Poort (Andrew Lloyd Webber's favourite phantom of the opera), but also "Vilja Lied" (that's from "Die lustige Witwe", the Merry Widow).
@@markschattefor6997 The look on Tuomas' face at 9:26 says it all for me - he just looks so happy. 'We struck gold here lads!'
@@itsmeagain1745 Tuomas knew Floor from the time they toured together with After Forever, and she was on top of his list.
Leave it to a Buenos Aires crowd to sing along with the guitar solo! They always really bring the enthusiasm.
Nightwish is a religion ,despite all of its members denouncing any forced religious ideas, and Floor is our Goddess
No it is not and Floor is just a very talented human being, that's it. Please do not speak for me. If it is a religion for you, speak in your name and leave the rest of us out of it.
@@shuriken4852 Jeez, you must be fun at parties.
You have only just begun...to live. Nightwish rules.
Tread lightly my friend! Floor is our valkyrie!
The first ever Floorgasm recorded. Although many people don't like this version. However, Emppu's face (guitarist) is the face of a Floorgasm.
there is an even better live performance video of this song
Everyone says Wacken 13 but she is amazing everytime. I love that you hear the crowd joining in here !!!!! South American fans love the band .
The lyrics is indeed beautiful although I have NO IDEA what it's about 🥰
This song is epic, and Floor makes it even epicer 😍
We're heeeeeeeerrreee :) you're in for a fun ride
the band exists since 1996. floor joined just eight month before this concert. the genre is called "symphonic metal". thank you for your fine and informative reaction.

Yes, definitely check out their Phantom of the Opera cover
Nightwish - the greatest show on eart live tampere
That crowd is totally bad ass though They have to love playing there

The Swiss army knife of singing..she's amazing
I bought the Human Nature studio album because there is no live version of that... yet...
This is a good performance. Wacken 2013 is an EPIC performance; it's perfect in every way.
(There are some uploaded videos put up at the wrong speed ideally, just avoid them)
Love your reaction and comments!
Herman Brood? No, that"s in Amsterdam, she did the Rock Academy in Tilburg. I 'm born and raised there.
@@rianvandenhoof4124 thanks for the correction🙃
Kasperi von Schrowe - I guess you mean first live show with Nightwish, because Floor is performing since she is 16...
Yes, I meant that first shows with Nightwish. Of course she was hardcore professional already before NW.
@@janjanssen9629 is your last name pure coincidence, or are you related to...?
Kasperi von Schrowe - wish so... but unfortunately the Janssen (or Jansen) name is just very common in the Netherlands...
Very theatrical
cool reaction,
greetings from the Nightwish Army from Germany :-)
Nice, thanks!!!
Yours was an awesome reaction, sir! Immediately subscribed!
Hi Josh! Very good reaction, I enjoyed your calm analysis.
Yes, Floor Jansen is classically trained, she's a vocal coach and, as she said of herself, a "vocal techniques nerd"...😅
She can do much more than this, you'll see!😉
My suggestion is "Ever Dream" live from Wacken 2013 festival.
Greetings from Italy!

This was a really nice reaction! I like it when people who react also talk and analyze, not just listen and smile.
And I also agree on reacting to Epica - Sancta Terra, has to be the retrospect version though. ;)
A great vocal performance by Floor Jansen is in the duet with Hank Poort in the song Phantom of the Opera (on the Dutch show Beste Zangers)
