    Fascinating! I found myself naming streets and businesses along this route. I grew up on Wisconsin Street across from the Golden Funeral Home. Holy flashback. Really neat video.

    I was born in Eau Claire in 1974. We moved away about a month after this was taken. Thank you! This is very much "my" Eau Claire. I miss it

    This is so cool. I was born in 2005 so I never really knew "this" Eau Claire. I go to North for school.

    Keep expecting to see my hotrod or one of my friends. It's too bad they tore down the old train depot. It was beyond rustic but cool.

    I was a resident then and love this video. Thank you. Would love to see Water Street at that time.

    How Excellent to have such footage available. That 68 Ford seen at the beginning and middle has special significance, I took my driver's test in my parents' teal blue '67, nearly identical. They also bought one of the last U.S.-built TVs at FS Appliance in 1987, a Sylvania swiveling console-style, that lasted at least until about 2012. Great footage!

      Many more 1984 to 1990 videos need converting from analog to digital

    I found this video oddly... fascinating. I wasn't even alive during the creation of this film/video, and my parents at this point in time wouldn't've left their respective home towns (and wouldn't leave them for awhile), it is incredibly strange to watch someone drive around a fragment of space in the past that I am familiar with in the contemporary. This strange fragment allows for a glimpse to a world of the past that other commenters here are no doubt familiar with, but is alien and forever unknowable to many others and myself. Comparing the differences between today and 40 years ago leaves me with an astonishingly profound curiosity to set myself in the shoes of someone living in the moment on 12/2/1987, to understand this time not through the pages of history or the fragmented pictures of the past, but to actually live it.

      This was made with a 7 pound video camera , a 22 pound Home VCR, all using 120 volts AC, There was a AC generator running in trunk, with ventilation. No film ever used. There recorded on VHS tape or Beta tape

      @@ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181 Cool! I only used the word 'film' as a generic term to describe videos of this or similar nature, but a cool tidbit of information nonetheless.

    • @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181
      @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You used Film because you would not know that this was made with a home Video recorder (VHS) & a wired camera that was 7 pounds, all running from a 120 volt AC generator that was in trunk, to supply power. Battery powered VCR's were only used by TV stations and people with large bank accounts. When Camcorders came out later, the price was around $2,000 +. So I devised a system was was less in cost. VHS Tapes (T-120) had a price around $21 each.

      I was born in 72, spent many Summers in EC area camping and visiting during holidays. I had a few friends attend UWEC--not sure I would have been able to hit the books very often as it was a party school.

    Hilarious. Hardly anything has changed, other than a few new buildings (compared to areas that are growing).

    I love your choice of music. Sounds so 80's! May I ask where you got it or what the song info is?

    • @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181
      @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Songs were playing on the Radio - I played radio to hide noise of 120 VAC gas generator that was running in trunk. I am using a Home Camera & VCR

      Ah shame there are no titles to those tracks. I love 80s jazz and relaxing music from that time period.

    • @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181
      @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      FaceBook bans use of Music that is copyrighted, But here They stay, This was off the air, And I am using the early versions of VCR and Camera (Glass Pickup Tube) not CCD .. And no way to edit Sound or having tracks as items. Remember these are over 30 years ago. The VCR weighed 22 pounds and the Camera about 8

    When did they demolish the rail depot off of putnam and why?

    • @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181
      @ouroldtowneauclairehoffsr9181  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1987 when depot torn down. It was removed for 2 reasons, roof was in bad shape and water damage in many places, needed replacement. other reason is Holsum bakery wanted to expand, Holsum expanded in this area. Holsum closed down years later.

      This was made in 1987, Cars would mostly be from 1969 to 1987, So a few cars would be 50 years old today.
