Tampa and Carolina are currently the best teams in the league when it comes to finding and developing very good role players (and sometimes, in the case of Kucherov/Cirelli/Point/Aho/Slavin/Pesce/Nedeljkovic, full-blown core pieces) in the 2nd-7th rounds. No wonder they're both going to be decade-long contenders.
Florida was extremely lucky and at the same time they showed more solid confidence in third period to really start fighting for it. This one gave Panthers the necessary jab of confidence. Next game must be one of the best in NHL history. There is few reasons (and more) for that not accounting the teams involved being one of the best ever: 1. NHL had only 56 games on regular season which means individuals can be squeezed to provide very much higher performance when playoffs start after 82. The fatigue factor is not seen in players like it is after typical 82(which really is greedy, senseless amount....) games of grinding. 2. Both teams have now the tuned confidence to respect opponent so that they are fully engaged to all possible synchronization to get the last detail right to gain the final edge to beat opponent. 3.Audience is back generating adrenaline peak for individual players which now have been in position to taste it as additional element compared to full bubble era. Adrenaline triggers the body's fight-or-play dead-or-flight response. Adrenaline boosts performance when dealt in right manner. Right manner is part of individual player program. That is the combined job of individual teams' physical-mental team to analyze and give mental and physical tools for tailored response for each player to deal and take advantage of adrenaline. Nothing short of what is part of navy seals education. That is because every player is different and humans generally are very different with adrenaline response. Controlling tools to deal with "fight-or-play dead-or flight" level is powerful tool to gain edge over opponent. If someone is always calm does not mean he did not have the adrenalide peak and could not benefit(or be compromised) from it. Taking care of these kind of things is part of modern GM. There still are teams that buys randomly guys and throw them in the rink and hopes for the best. That can be said because some teams are too bad for it to be coincidental. Then it is easy to see there is teams like Tampa where every aspect of preparation to a game can be classiefied as "professional".
