This is brilliant. What an inspiration. Found it as I’m planning a similar thing to do with my Grandchildren in Scotland when they turn 8. First one next year. Belated Congratulations to Harvey!
Man, that video was a while ago, what a great memory. Make sure you watch some of our other videos. Might give you some more ideas to do with your grandkid
Found your channel from the Dower Duo channel. I subscribed and can't wait to follow your thru-hike this year. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Harvey looked like he was having a blast. Good luck to you all.
We slowing worked up to 10 miles in one hike. We were hiking several times a week to do this and then would do longer hikes on the weekend. This was without a backpack. Once we started the AT, we did 8 mile or so at the beginning and slowing worked our way to more.
I'm not sure how I stumbled on this, but that is awesome! Great job! How did you navigate the trails? And how did you figure out the provisions needed?
Can I ask what backpack he is wearing please? I have 4yr old twins and I'd like to take one of them at a time on a wild camp night locally.. Depending how they do I can consider both of them but being twins they bounce off each other and get very distracted and play up. Great adventure by the way
@@livesutton the tempest Jr would work but having twins.. Its two packs and my own pack didn't even cost as much as those.. (nothing on the used market). :-(
Deuter Climber Pack. We have another backpack that has a mesh back for kids that I like a little bit more. But that one is able to adjust the straps better. I think I might do a review between the two backpacks. If you're interested subscribe so you can see when we get the review finished.
Awesome! Such a great experience to share this 57 mile hike with your family! How many days it take you? We just did a small section from Hogpen to Neel Gap over the weekend and the views were great ! Just subbed!!
We had planned on 7 days, but we hiked faster than expected and finished in 6 days. We averaged 8-10 miles a day. It's such great weather to hike right now!
@@livesutton Agreed! It is a shame that we missed some of the cooler weather, but at least the AT has reopened in most states. There is a ton of AT hiking videos on my channel that might interest you. Would love to hear your feedback! Cheers

When we hiked the Appalachian Trail, we ended up switching packs to the smallest Osprey with a hip belt. Sorry I don't remember how many liters it is.

What brand and model pack is Harvey rockin?

He looks older than 5. Was he almost 5?
No, 4 and 2 months. He's just tall
Very cool that you're getting Harvey out so young but isn't 10 miles a day a bit much on young growth plates?
We've been working up to that for the last 2 years. His doctor is very supportive of our slow progress.
