Famidaily - Episode 0110 - Dig Dug II (ディグダグII)

Namco made an all time classic arcade game that's beloved the world over and still played obsessively to this day. Then a few years later they made a sequel.
Famidaily is my attempt to catalog all of the commercially released Famicom games.

I only remember Dig Dug 2 because they had it for rent and not Dig Dug 1

Never really liked Dig Dug II _until_ it was masterfully integrated into Dig Dug DS by interconnecting the mechanics of Dig Dug (bottom screen) with the mechanics of Dig Dug II (top screen) in the same game.

Dig Dug II is an interesting if random addition to the NSO NES and Famicom apps.

Namco had kept it in circulation on the Virtual Console, so I guess the contacts were already there.

Namco REALLY should have done a Dig Dug III in 1987 on Namco System 1 hardware with the gameplay style going back to that of the original.

I think I played a bit of this on one of the namco museum famicom collections? I wasn't as into it. loved the original though!
