So I was watching the beginning of the Restoring Susanna Vlog and in video #3 (published Sep 22, 2012) You said "There goes Susanna to the shop, we'll be back here in 8 months"...After saying that, when did you realize it was never going to happen?? And did you ever think that it would take nearly 4 yrs. to complete her??.......Thank You again, for bringing us on this journey of Restoring Susanna, and especially being able to view the amazing talents of Doug and Clint, because without those two.. Susanna would not be as beautiful as she is today.....
It just makes my day when you post a new video, you absoultly have to continue after it's complete (Traveling with Susanna). Charles you should present Doug to the studios out there for a series on wooden boat restoration, it would be a wonderful alternitave to the house flipping shows...
Hi - Great series, I absolutely love the attention to detail and the constant explaining that Doug and Clint are doing. One thing Clint might want to experiment with is Pushing the caulking gun. The forward pressure forces more caulk into tighter spaces and also the bead that is formed is not as wasteful and more uniform. So when the putty knife is applied it exerts even more pressure to force the caulk into the voids... just a suggestion that might be more efficient.
Some of my favorite moments are when Doug drifts off thinking about sailing, "big winds in the channel....load up the headsail" followed by a wistful sigh @20:10
Hi, is there an episode where Doug show how he does the bottom fitting of a plank? he shows the top where he cut the plank 90degres but I can find where he shows how he finds the bevel on the bottom of the plank, Nice to see true craftsman in action, regards from norway
Absolutely amazing. Do you have any idea of how many man hours are in doing the deck? I understand that everything has been leading up to the deck but from the deck planks forward. I wish I was close to see the launching. I'll have to wait for the movie to come out!
I love the videos but some of comments are really quite uneducated. Lost art and no else is caulking decks!!!!!! Really! You think he is the only wood boat builder in the world? Come on guys!
Lost art? Ever heard of a backer in your caulk joints? That way the caulk can move with the wood instead of peeling away because it's locked in the bottom of the seam. Also, they do make tools for it that prevent the job looking like a finger-painting. Lost art.. smh

What actually is Smits? And how does the mast mount in the hold?
Hi Charles ..
The caulking of the hull, will that process be shown in the next episode?
Not the net one but soon. We have filmed that part already. Thanks for watching.
Poor Clint.....you would think there might be room for a battery powered caulk gun in a 300 Grand budget?
Poor Clint.....you would think there might be room for an electric caulk gun with a 300 Grand budget?
