First couple of sessions definitely have a pucker-factor with the blind crests as you start picking up speed, lol. Very fun once you figure out where you're going though.
Nicely done! I thought your line was cleanest on the 1:04 lap. You can go incredibly fast through the half pipe with the tight line, the camber will hold you. Next time you're out, try it - it's really satisfying 😋
ORP is definitely a track on which I could see spending multiple weekends iterating on the best line/approach to several corners or combo elements in order to find the best approach for a given car. I was definitely not up to "local" pace within 2 days 😅
@@LapoftheWorld lap time aside, your line looked really, really good. I kept thinking, there's no way this is this guy's first time here, but then I guess you did practice in VR first. Did you know that they also have a bypass configuration that they also run both directions? It's about half of the overall track length, but boy is it fun! I actually like it better than the full track because the speed is so exhilarating!
@@sparkys2k A little virtual practice and this being my 28th "first time" somewhere I guess, lol. I did know about the possible configurations and I think any combo of those would probably be fun.
The PNWR PCA holds an annual HPDE at ORP, just runs the track CC, thus avoiding the issues with the pit wall. I've always felt like the track drove like a big go-kart track. Narrow, always turning, tons of elevation and some nasty downhill braking. But like any blind turn, the track never changes, it's always right where it was like the previous lap. Next trip out to the Pac NW, make sure to stop by The Ridge Motor Park, Shelton, Wa; Pacific Raceway in Kent, Wa (south of metro Seattle) and of course, Portland International in Portland, Or.
Fair point about running CCW, fortunately we didn't have any casualties. Kart track or really hilly autocross are good analogies. I will definitely be back to the region though! Gotta drive them all 😁
Great review…. you mentioned Shad of Driving Ambition it could only be Shad Huntley my tuner and one of the very best in the world. Since my move from the downtrodden state to the south west i’ve been looking for a track to take out my EG Civic race car. since watching your vid, ORP will be my first track of choice since my move north. Looking forward to more LOTW!
Nice to hear the NSX cars fly by in the background. Great busy track but needs a straight that you can wind out in 4th. People who review the NSX without driving on a fast track are missing the point of why the car was designed. Really enjoyed this one.
4th gear can only be used on the front straight for a na motor nsx. It's quite satisfying to downshift to 3rd, cringe n carry as much speed as you dare going into turn2 braking zone.
Did Exxon lose an oil rig on the track out there or what? The track is hard enough without worrying about oil and cake batter all over it. At least you had the safety of 4 wheels and a seat belt. I have ridden a WR250R, Ninja400, and R6 on the track. It's a lot of fun!
This is very cool LOTW! What a track!! Love the overlays you put on screen too.. Thanks so much for that your website/map feature.. It's absolutely fantastic.. I think I spent like 40 minutes just going to tracks and stuff!! "GOT YOUR SHIRT" DMAX motion sim ch
@@LapoftheWorld Jeeze LOTW I think its absolutely mesmerizing! I sent it to all my buddy's on the sim racing discord. (and my uncle John.. who has been racing since the 60's).. Thanks.. It's awesome! D
Amazing track, looks like great fun! A question:Why do you guys in the US often use point bys by hand on street cars which have indicators? (which actually are very practical to use for indicate overtakes on track days)
That's a very valid question. I've always assumed it was the egalitarian measure to cover the bases for when there might be a mix of street and race cars on the same circuit. i.e. "everyone" has hands, not all cars may have blinkers. That said, now I want to know so may go ask some questions myself. I know there are other differences as well with respect to running with windows up vs windows down and things like that.
Hands out method in my opinion is quite amateur on my emotional inner racer's view. But in my instructor/organizer view: it eliminates confusions between drivers. (My 3 yr old blinker would occasionally stuck n if it happened at the moment . It could get confusing ) on the other hand, it also reminded participants its a Hpde and you are not in a 10/10 driving element. Another piece is even though we grouping drivers in similar pace to drive together, it's almost impossible to have perfect group of drivers have same speed and same skill levels by themselves at all times. This is just the safest measure to avoid any incidents.
We were up there for NSXPO and then ended up having commitments afterwards in CO and CA, lol. I did look at some events but schedule didn't work. We are least made it to an abandoned track in Iowa on the way out. 😅
I've just discovered the channel... I'm hooked! Great content, keep doing what you're doing. Would be cool to see a foot cam during your onboard pieces. Have you ever seen the video where Ayrton Senna is testing an NSX in Japan? The foot camera is amazing. So great to watch his technique.
Somewhere on my off-season to-do list is to fab up a bracket that will let me securely attach a camera in the footwell. Obviously I'm not Senna, but I can heel/toe and I may still own some loafers and white socks 😅
Seemed like a very technical, yet beautiful track. 😍 are there any tracks on the east coast that might deliver a similar experience for those of us that might not be able to make it out that far?
There might be some that get close with abrupt elevation changes and how busy you are, but I haven't driven any out east that mix that, with the banked camber and the room to take liberties with risking a concrete encounter. In the Southeast Atlanta Motorsports Park comes to mind. Shorter, but has similarly intense elevation change, but doesn't throw banked turns in the mix and doesn't have nearly the runoff.
This is my home track. I live in Portland and am an ORP Club member. I feel so fortunate to have this in my back yard. Fantastic track and people!!
This track looks like absolute fun and terror all wrapped into one with all of the blind corners, that awesome half-pipe, and blind crests!
First couple of sessions definitely have a pucker-factor with the blind crests as you start picking up speed, lol. Very fun once you figure out where you're going though.
The track with the most elevation change of pretty much anything around. An excellent track for sure. Tough, physical roller coaster.

You're correct there 😁. Shad's great. We sadly only cross paths once in a while, but it's always a good time.
Very Cool! Can't wait for Tucson!
That should also be a good time by the looks of it!

Oregon raceway park is an awesome track but how did you travel that far and not go only a couple hours north to the ridge or pacific raceway?

What was the track distance
One lap is ~2.3 miles in this configuration. We drove around 100 track miles over the two days though.
