Yes, you can change any names/stats etc with this. Though you should wait a couple weeks yet as you'll be able to change paint schemes and textures here soon.
Not a dumb question. I could make one of these for 05 but I'd have to start over to some extent and find where data lives in that game vs 04. The Excel thing is just to make editing easier for others so they don't have to figure out raw data and do thousands of edits manually. I don't know that it'd be worth it though, because the AI in 05 rubber bands really hard and there aren't any super consistent drivers as if they are more randomized. Also people have been messing with it for Dolphin since the gamecube got a release of 05 and that emulator works with texture swapping
Well, that's like, your opinion man. I did all this modding myself because I wanted to and a lot of people have enjoyed it as well. So IMO not a waste. You can learn how to mod and pick your poison as well *shrug

It'll be quite a while but I want to do a video on how to approach this stuff and how to do hex editing to learn what's what and how to change it
