I really appreciate you showing me how to install my set of lights, because I never read that "Thick instruction book" L😆l. When it's much easier to TH-cam it and get a quick snapshot of what I have to do once I open it up out the box beside this is a great addition to my 8 cameras with night vision cobra video system that not only beeps off a alarm from inside the house when any motion is detected, but it also sends me a email to my phone with live video feed so I can see what's causing it to go off that cobra security video recording unit I purchased from Harbor freight for around $189.00 so my lights will make a great additional add on at a reasonable affordable cost Thank you
Great video on install. Noticed some folks had a 2-3 month life and then failure. Mine died in two. Looking over ,the instructions its required that you allow the battery to charge for 3 days in direct light before you and install and use. I did not do that, and mine has a non-removable internal battery. Also the solar tops off the battery during the day, therefore if your model has removable batteries, these must be the re-chargeable kind not a standard kind. Usually in a green package and more expensive. SO... don't forget to read and follow the instructions.....
I've noticed some people saying that they've had some failures. I hate that... Mine have worked great since day one. I appreciate you checking out the video!
Awesome, thanks for making this. How did you position the sensor like 45 degrees to the ground level? I think I wanna pick up something at least 30 feet from the house, but not every passing car you know?
Yeah, 45 degrees sounds about right. Mine are about 9 feet off the ground as well. If cars are a potential problem, you can also adjust the sensitivity on the light. Thanks very much for watching. 👍🏻👍🏻
Are supposed to push the power button on ? Just installed these they are staying on currently in daylight ? I have Lux on night , motion on L , on for 30sec and the button on motion
I did have to play with the buttons. If I remember, there's no way of knowing if it's on or off. You just have to experiment with it. Definitely frustrating...
how are they holding up? would they do a sufficient job of lighting up a carport? I was eyeballing these at my local home depot a few days ago. just moved into a new house but the front door/carport has no lighting, and lately all delivery drivers have been showing up after dark.
They're still doing well. I've had no problems whatsoever. Keep in mind, they are brighter than they appear in this video. I think they would work fine for what you need. Just make sure that the solar panel, wherever you mount it, gets good sun light . Thanks for watching!
@@Matt_Bryant I plan on putting the solar panel on top of the carport roof, I live in Phoenix, AZ - a good amount of sun is not an issue, thanks for the quick reply, have a great day and stay awesome!
I know you have a small area, but do you have a guess as to how far the motion sensor reach is? More than 40ft? Less than? We have a very, like half a tennis court, sized yard in our condo complex that we're trying to find a simple lighting solution for when it gets dark around 4pm. The issue is just, where we're going to mount it might not reach where the people are actually going to be moving around.
I have the sensitivity set about 75% with the sensors about 45 or 50 degrees. Mine will activate if it senses motion from about 25 - 30 feet. You could mess around with the sensitivity and the angle of the sensors to tailor it to yout liking. Thanks for checking out the video! I plan on doing a "one year later" video very soon since mine are still holding up just fine.
I bought this light tonight. When I first plugged it in I saw the green light flashing which I know is a good thing. I had to unplug the unit to adjust something and when I plugged it back in I didn’t see the green or red light anymore. I hit the on/off switch a few times and nothing is happening. Any idea on what to do? Do I need to let it charge for a day or two then try again?
Hmm... That's weird that it looked like it started to charge, and then - nothing. Connections are good? Is the sun out? I installed mine mid-afternoon and by nighttime, they worked fine. It's been 18 hours since you commented - any change? Hopefully you didn't get a funky one. Should be easy to exchange. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for reaching out to me. I figured that it probably needed to charge for a while and it’s exactly what it needed. Now the light is working great. Thank you again for your help and for making this video!
The height shouldn't matter as long as the solar panel is in a good spot and is able to charge the battery. You may have gotten a bad one. I'd give it a day or so and if it still doesn't work, I'd exchange it. Just so you know, one of my two units stopped working after about 2 years. The other one still works great.
Yes, the lights are weather resistant. I would definitely place the solar panels in direct sunlight so the battery gets a good charge every day. Thanks for watching!
So you mentioned you have it set to a minute to a minute and a half LOL that's just rounded off to 1 minute great video thanks for the awesome information got to go to the box store and pick a few up
My instruction booklet is long gone - but I think there's a door on the back of the unit to access the batteries. They're probably rechargeable lithium ion. In some cases, it's cheaper to replace the whole unit. Defiant's website/ customer service may have some answers as well.
Mine arnt turning on I pressed the on but when I installed and I saw the lights turn on in the morning and it was blinking green so it was charging but now it's just not on and it's night time already
Hmm... That's odd. Maybe check the Lux setting. Also try pressing ON again. It may actually be OFF. Good luck with that. If it still doesn't work, you may have to return it. There's a chance you may have gotten a bad unit.
This is the 500 lumen version. It's actually brighter than it looks on camera. I recorded this with my phone and most phones don't do well at night. But they are actually pretty bright. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻
Is it too late to return it? Sounds like you got a bad one. I still have yet to have any issues. Check the connection to the solar panel. Make sure the main power is on. If all else fails, return it. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻
Mines too... It wont detect motion n wont turn on.... Only if i press the button it lights on but i have to press it again... Wat is the purpose of that button???
Sounds like you got a couple of bad ones. Sorry to hear. I'm over a year out and have zero problems. I'd return them (you probably did that already). I appreciate you checking out the video!
Thanks. I bought one today from HD and was wondering how to install it.

Sounds like you have a really nice setup! Yeah, these lights are surprisingly bright to be only 500 lumens. Thanks for watching!
Can I get a longer cord or extension for the security light????
Not sure... You may have to check Defiant's website or try and contact them and see.

@ ok cuz right now they are on ( it’s day time 3pm )
That's just silly... Try hitting the button again and see what happens.
Can I use regular double A batteries after the original dies?
I doubt it. It uses batteries that get recharged by the solar panels. Not sure if they are replaceable or not.

Looks like there is no dusk to dawn only motion detection?
Yes, it only comes on when it senses motion.
Will this stay on all night.
At dust to dawn. How can I set it to stay on?
These only come on when they sense motion. They can stay on for 90 seconds max then they switch off until they sense motion again.
Mine not working, not sure if it’s 2 high or it didn’t set up good

Are the lights suppose to stay on while charging during the day
Yeah, they're always "on" technically. But you can set the "lux" to come on only at night.
Are they weather resistant? Should they be placed in direct sun light?
Yes, the lights are weather resistant. I would definitely place the solar panels in direct sunlight so the battery gets a good charge every day. Thanks for watching!

Haha yeah, it's actually 90 seconds. 🤣 Also, just so you know - these lights STILL work just fine. I've had zero issues. Thanks for watching!
You should do an update on them I'd like to see if they're really worth the bang for the buck although I'm going to buy them anyway 👌
@@quartermilereefer8752 Not a bad idea. Maybe in a few months I'll do a 'one year later' video. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Matt. Good video.
You're welcome! I appreciate you checking out the video. 👍🏻
I just got one of the 1400 lumens one. How are you still liking the lights after one month of use?
They still work great. We've had some bad storms and they've held up nicely. No complaints at all. I like 'em. Yours will be much brighter!
@@Matt_Bryant thank you for that I live in Florida and I was having the weather in mind.
How do you change batteries

My defient lights lasted 5 months. Returning tmmrw.
That sucks... Mine are still good. Hopefully you got a funky one and the next one will be better.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video
Saludos!!
HOW LONG IS THE CORD FOR THE SOLAR PANEL?
10 feet.
My red or green light dont go on is that normal?
Green is 'charging' and red is 'sensing motion.' They won't be on all of the time - but they should be on at some point. Especially when charging. 🤔
Same with mine. Worked when I first turned it on and never turned on again
Can it stay on all night?
The longest it can stay on is 90 seconds (if I remember correctly) before it has to sense motion to come on again.
I wish it was rated in watts, lumens rating not common.
That's a very good point. The lights inside our homes are based on watts. 👍🏻👍🏻
I am about to buy the 1000 volt from Home Depot ! Same one !
I just bought the 500 lumens and they look like a 20 watts light bulb 😱😄
Ha! Really? Mine are actually kinda bright. Make sure they're getting a good charge. 👍🏻
@@Matt_Bryant I'm using them with the battery that it comes included..I haven't charged the mini solar panel ..maybe that's why 😄😄😄
The lightb is poor lumination.. not bright at all.. what was the Lumens number? 2000,3000,5000?
