I remember being a lonely lad of 24 moving from Oklahoma to LA for a job and finding refuge in a city where I knew no one at the Virgin Megastore on sunset. There was a song playing in the store as I diligently perused the import singles sections. It was The Shining by Badly Drawn Boy. I happily stood there sampling each track on the full length album at those “before covid” listening stations. A cascade of happy sad feeling wash over me today as I hear this track. It was a new adventure for me in the city of angels. A few decades later, I’m far away from where that journey started but his music is still with me. That will never change. Solace.
The Virgin Megastore was a late night vibe for sure, as well as Tower Records down the street. I saw the Tommy Wiseau classic The Room upstairs at the Sunset Cinema 5 and K Reeves' band Dogstar at the Viper Room around that time.
And six thousand miles away I was doing the same thing. Stood in a "borders" at a listening station being dazzled in my ears while watching people choose which book to buy. I was only 17 mind. You old fart.
I have been listening to this song and album since I was little, man it just never gets old. It reminds me of being young and roadtrips and my mom and childhood dogs while also just this past summer and my friends and nature and I love it all. It has been on repeat for my whole life and I will never tire of how gorgeous this whole album is, I’m not sure there’s any opener song quite as beautiful as this one
This disc has been in my play list every week for just over 20 years. Never gets old. Original, ethereal, beautiful. Damon reminds me of the tragically short- lived Nick Drake. And his esteem for (and knowledge of) Bruce Springsteen just adds to my admiration.
Yes, you're so right about Drake and funnily enough this takes me back instantly to a brief but memorable relationship 20 years ago with a girl who introduced me to this and Drake simultaneously. There's something so poignant about this album anyway. Fair play to you :)
Unforgettable performance at Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury a couple of months ago The honesty, professionalism and wit of this true legend was awe inspiring Would love to see him again ❤
Faith pours from your walls, drowning your calls, I've tried to hear, you're not near. Remembering when I saw your face, Shining my way, pure timing. Now I've fallen in deep, slow silent sleep, It's killing me, I'm dying. To put a little sunshine in your life. Soleil all over you, warm sun pours over me. Soleil all over you Warm sun. Now this slick fallen rift, Came like a gift, Your body moves ever nearer And your will dry this tear Now that we're here, and grieve for me, not history But now I'm dry of thoughts, wait for the rain, Then it's replaced, sun setting And suddenly we're in love with everything. Soleil all over you, warm sun pours over me. Soleil all over you Warm sun
Wow i havent heard this in years and it just showed up in the background of House MD episode 17 of season 5... I used to be obsessed with this song i cant believe i forgot its existence.
Just found this via SoundHound watching Get Over It with Kirsten Dunst and now I think there’s some over lay over this song as well 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Wait the part I know has started 🥳🤩
The emotions this song gives me are so strong I can’t even put down the words!! Got me through a rough time many years ago, but every time I hear this track it makes me smile and cry at the same time!! But will always love the song for the certain memories. Thank you ❤
Always feel like this is Christmas, it’s soft like snow but warm like a malled wine , mite be the French horn , I don’t know . But it just makes me feel warm and happy .

How can I express how much I love you when I only have these simple words? I wish, Lily, I could paint this vista for you. I wish I could commit it to song as well as this one plays out 💙💜 I wish I could show you 💙❤🧡💛💚🤎💞💓💗💖💝❣❤🔥
did you ever put out a vinyl and if so where can I get it? Your use of spatial sound recording is phenomenal. I literally can hear you walk to the mic from left to right softly strumming the guitar. It's an art.

You will always have a memory and wow a person you never will meet in the UK having the same thing xxx peace my brother ❤
Beautifully written - be proud of what you’ve achieved 😊🇬🇧
Loved reading this. For me, that moment in a new city will always be hearing "Crucify" by Tori Amos.
😊

I was only 17 mind. You old fart.
My wife walked up the aisle at our wedding in 2002 to the instrumental opening of this song.
Wonderful
Veeeeeery nice!
Sweet!
I just had a tear in my eye. Honest.
Thank you House MD for all these amazing songs
Lo mismo digo yo..
Always 👍🔥
Exactly 😌

Music is the closest thing we’ll ever get to time travel.
Wow...what a comment...❤️❤️❤️❤️
one of the great album openers.

Never drawn that parallel before! But it's right there! Pink Moon, and this...two of the (very few) albums I will always listen to right through

I've lost this song too many times but it was always in my heart. Glad I found it again never to lose again!❤
Bolton is a town of less than 200,000 people but produced Badly Drawn Boy, Cherry Ghost and it’s also where Buzzcocks formed. Not bad!
And Peter Kay
Jason Bateman’s ancestors were from Bolton and Manchester!
Just found it again! After 20 years?! Thanks everyone so glad I found this again!😂😅😊
My favourite song of all time. This song is so underated!
Faith pours from your walls, drowning your calls,
I've tried to hear, you're not near.
Remembering when I saw your face,
Shining my way, pure timing.
Now I've fallen in deep, slow silent sleep,

Soleil all over you
Warm sun.

And your will dry this tear

But now I'm dry of thoughts, wait for the rain,
Then it's replaced, sun setting
And suddenly we're in love with everything.
Soleil all over you, warm sun pours over me.
Soleil all over you
Warm sun
such a soothing introduction .....
I was listening to Led Zeppelin's Ramble on and it reminded me of this song. Nice mellow sound.

I always wanted this for a wedding march
This song, album stays fresh. You can listen to it over and over. It's the mix of instrumentals and songs I think.
I'm dying...to put a bit of sunshine in your life
I listen to this album in full at least once during the first week of January.
The horns!!💜💜💜
You was part of my life and you never knew it.
How did forget this song. This song was on heavy rotation final year of HS
This is it what a good song 🎵
I remember this album from college very fondly. I saw you in Denver then, you probably remember me :)
Yup

Nice tune. For some reason this somewhat reminds of The Beatles songs.
Has echoes of 'for no one' from the 1966 revolver album
@@tonybradley2049 that's actually one of my favorites from Beatles
I get more Donovan vibes from this

Yes he did , also think it’s been reissued now , eBay and discogs are your best bets
First time i heard this was in "Get over it"
I heard this song off the show "Trigger Happy"
rip stereomood
Very much an underrated songwriter and performer. Much better than Noel Gallagher, for example.
