Oh Rhonda! I love the dark academia look for fall! The painting came out beautiful! You did an excellent job on the gallery wall as well! I love all of your finds! Thank you for sharing! Have a blessed week! 💖 ~Connie
I’m sooooooooooooo glad you did this video❤ I see pictures of Dark Academia and love them, but you gave us wonderful details as to what it really is and why!!!! What a great idea for Fall decor….Rhonda, you are the BEST🧡🍁💛
One of my daughters is interested in going this route for decor but wasn't crazy about all the skulls, etc. I had no idea there were "sub types" as well. I can't wait to show her this. MUCH more what she's thinking, I'm sure. Thank you for explaining this because I had no idea how to truly begin to help her. DEFINITELY getting in on this Saturday's deals, MUCH appreciated on that one my friend.
The music and the style of decor in this one is like the Little House episode where Laura is messing around in this old mans mansion of a house thats gone dilapidated when he walks in on her! She befriends him and they clean up the mansion in hopes that his actress wife comes back to him… as he tells laura that she left him for a life in the city where she could do her acting. Well laura eventually finds out that actually his wife is dead. The old man knew it but didnt wanna face the reality of it. Then laura leads him to Jesus🩷 Well the old mansion was decorated like this and he had an old music box playing music just like the music you chose for your video! Ok my story time is over now haha😂 Loved the decor and the video🩷 You did a great job making that picture match those curtains!
Oh my goodness. First, I love the style you chose. It’s so different and interesting. -really neat to build on. Second, the diys were great!-very creative. Last, I needed those 2 minutes of calm. Thank you!! ❤I’m digging what you’re doing!
OMG Rhonda!!!! I've been waiting patiently for your video and you did not disappoint!! I loved it and you nailed it!!! I love everything from those curtains to the spray painted greenery, it was a great transformation! I now am looking for a corner of my house to transform!!! Thank you for the great inspiration!!! Your living room turned out amazing!!!
I don't know much about the dark academia decor style. I love how you pulled all of it together. It looks beautiful. I think I may use a little of this mixed with my Halloween decor. Not the real dark gothic but little touches here and there. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
I’m a new Subscriber and these videos are so cool! 🦋You are so creative! The budget and uniqueness of each item is so so cool! I also would add a candle with those brass butterflies to the coffee table stacked on a book!
Hello, I have watched you for a while but girl...welcome to the Dark Side! Great content. Oh and the original Lamp Shade was absolutely Dark Academia Victorian looking and went great with the curtains. I do like the painted one but I would keep the original!
Hey thanks for watching! The Victorian shades totally went great with the curtains, but I’m just not fond of red is why I switched em. I have a green wall and red accents feel like Christmas to me 😂
This style of decorating is all new to me, I do however really like it….you explain everything so nicely, enjoyed myself tonight watching your video! I found this all fascinating 🧐 I’m gonna dig deeper into this dark academia decorating! Thanks so very much for bringing this idea to life….your heat lightning storm blends right in with your dark academia…have a lovely week Rhonda 🌻🌻🌻🌞🌛🌝 see you in the next one😊
Hello Rhonda!! It's Dark Academia awesome!! I've always loved it and thrilled it's trending now. You did a great job putting the living room together. The curtains are a brilliant idea. Oh, the oval hoops, apply some butterfly or insect transfers from IOD into some black fabric or paper. That would be an awesome addition to the gallery wall. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
that looks great. One thing I would have done is add some of the antiquing wax on the deer and shiny silver vase needs a bit too, just to age it a bit.
I am new to your channel, and this is maybe the 3rd video I have watched, my mother was a master seamstress, she made 90% of my clothing growing up in the 60's and 70's, and one tip I could give you ( although I did NOT inherit my mothers sewing skills) but she always Pressed and ironed any material she would be working with... she found the fold lines "bothersome".... I have also painted MANY lamp shades, my youngest son worked in the hotel industry fr about 10 years after he graduated high school. They would always warehouse their unused hotel room furniture and decor, so he was tasked with cleaning out and disposing of a huge storage unit full of hotel furniture... He gave us a King sized bed base and mattress that was only 2 months old. They were told to get rid of the mini remodel that had happened a couple of months earlier, anyway we received the bed and he also gave us 5 table lamps that were larger, don't ask me "why" but every lamp shade had a "water ring stain" around the shade because people would hang damp towels over the lamp to dry.... so I chalk painted some, however the lampshades I chalk painted came out "fuzzy" so I used just apple barrel brand acrylic craft paint from walmart... I have a "moody" Mineral violet" sitting room/ tiny library so I did an ombre deep purple in 3 shades, darker on bottom, lighter on top... It came out GORGEOUS!
This is such a fun idea! I had a thought about the painted lamp shades. I was thinking that an Led bulb would be best because heated paint can put off fumes. I love the clear glass tray on your coffee table. The little dear figurines we’re the perfect touch!
I recently discovered cottage core and I have a bonus room that my bunnies also live in and I have been incorporating cottage core into that space. I love your ideas and will be decorating this room in a mix of academia this fall.
Love your hall. We will all end up in the antique stores at some point, families die off and today's youth don't value family history to much anymore. Loved the clock the best. Go back for the lamp....lol. also loved that you included the plant on the gallery wall
You really caught the vision and did a fabulous job! Though you space is perfect…I loved the tasseled lamp up against your floral curtains. So…you can (if you want to) switch that out here and there. 🤷🏼♀️ You could put some tea in the decanter to replicate bourbon….if that is something you would enjoy.
I hv that same exact decanter for 45yrs now. I also hv the same deer. I collected bottles and that was my first one as a little girl putting bubble bath in it. My mom collected deer, she had hundreds. Beautiful decor. ❤
Gotta say my heart hurt that some family gave up the treasure of the photos. That said you did a beautiful job with that clock. I so love the more gothic academia, I really loved this video! I also watch her channel. The lightening was awesome
Great job! Just a thought, I understand your choice not to use the cream-colored lace. However, you could have used black, and that would have been lovely. Additionally, you can use black lace to drape over and under things. I enjoy your content, thank you for sharing.
Great video. I just use the term "moody, dark cottage" because the word "cottage" suggests by itself that we decorate with what we love, and I love books.
@@thedistressedprincessdiy I figured you were south of me lol. Illinois is a long state, I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and people in Mattoon always ask me where I'm from. But Northern, central and southern definitely have their way of speaking.
Hi ,i’m new to your channel but I love that you style things like you want and not the mass produced stuff most people go for I’m like you i like my own style but I don’t think mine has a style name lol, it’s a bit antique and some not and I love lamps but they are all different but more on the older side and i love them all i put up bird themed wallpaper so this year my fall will be dark blues and purples and wood nature stuff not doing the bright fall colors they clash with the wallpaper and I don’t like that, your space looks very warm and comfy so much to look at very interesting.
My mom called Edith Futrell's great-grandaughter ( Long time family friends for us!) Once the connection is confirmed, don't be surprised if you hear from her soon!
Hi there! If I’m printing at home for wall art I like to use heavier paper like cardstock. And sometimes I use watercolor paper because it has a nice texture 😊
I personally think your style should represent what you like and who you are, maybe studying the time period that it is based off of helps to look make it look more authentic, not just for the novelty of it, when you have a passion for it, you can feel the love in it, not just for the looks.
This version of "Dark Academia" is just a re-run from when we were decorating our homes in "Country Style" in the 1980s. If you're only doing this for autumn and Halloween, please don't spend a lot. You'll outgrow the style quickly. ❤
Oh yes, trust me when I was running around looking for brassy things to use, I was looking for the old Home Interior items 😂 Remember that company? My house changes just about weekly for my channel so nothing stays up long 💗💗💗
So nice! Good idea with the color block curtains. I never tried that hack
Thank you! 😊

Thank you so much Connie! You have a nice week too! 💗
Staining the book pages so that they look aged would warm the table up. I think you did great! Love the dark lampshade.
Oooo that’s a great idea! 👻

I absolutely love dark academia!
It’s so interesting 😊
J'adore le décor que tu as créé, tout est harmonieux et "Moody". Même tes ongles sont peints en dark academia 😄🫶😍👌
Hi! I love reading your comments 😊 I try to match my nails sometimes 💗
Love it! Great video. My favorite aesthetic. Hi from a Southern Illinois girl!

Love that little sewing machine
It’s been a good one so far 😊

Hi Nicole! I love cottagecore for a bunny room!! 🥰
Just found your channel.
I love love what you did with the $24.00 painting… well everything love it ❤🤗
Thanks so much! 😊
I’m really into the dark academia. Never was into farmhouse. Great job!
Awesome! Thank you! 😊

Greetings from Wisconsin, love your theme
Hello way up there! Thanks for watching 💗
Gotta say my heart hurt that some family gave up the treasure of the photos. That said you did a beautiful job with that clock. I so love the more gothic academia, I really loved this video! I also watch her channel. The lightening was awesome
Thanks! I am so curious about the people in those pictures 😊
I think a little round doily or something crocheted would look good on the glass tray under the deer.
I love crochet doilies 💗
Again, LOVE!!!
Thanks again 😊💗
Love it! Glad you did not add the lace to the curtains.
Me too 😊
Blocked curtains 😲 cool 😎
Thanks 😊
I've been getting into this style so much lately ugh!!
It’s very interesting 😊
love it
Thank you 😊

Yes that would be pretty! You have a good eye for this don’t you? 💗
If you haven't seen Canterbury cottage on TH-cam you should! She's originally from Illinois and has great academia ideas. Love this episode
Yes I’ve watched her before. And she is wonderfully creative 💗
Excellent
Thanks 😊
Great video. I just use the term "moody, dark cottage" because the word "cottage" suggests by itself that we decorate with what we love, and I love books.
“Cottagecore” just sounds weird to me 😂 Just plain cottage is much better. 💗
Beautiful! Just subscribed ❤
Welcome! I’m so happy you’re here! 💗
Love it! The clock was my fav. I don't know where you are in Illinois but I'm in Mattoon.
Wayyyyy down south Illinois where the Mississippi and Ohio meet 😊

I sound like a southerner for sure 😊
I love this! I would call it “whimsical” vs “cottagecore” if that makes ya feel better!
Yes whimsical is a much better word. 😊
Looks nice
Thanks! 😊

I’m sorry 😥
I love your video! I have a question about the printing of an image. Do you choose a particular type of paper?
Hi there! If I’m printing at home for wall art I like to use heavier paper like cardstock. And sometimes I use watercolor paper because it has a nice texture 😊
Those brass pots are old spittoons! Lol
I thought so too until I saw the bar code stickers on the bottom 😂
I think you could have used the original shades. They went with your curtains.
They did match but I have a green wall in that room and I feel like green and red make Christmas 😂 💗

No this was purely decor for me, but I’m happy that I like all kinds of different styles so I can showcase them here 😊
You’re painting was fine for dark academia
All you needed to do was paint the frame
You’re curtains are great tho
Thanks Jodi 😊
Yours is more lighr
I combined dark academia and light and cottage I guess 😂
