It's in Kaneko's style instead of Doi's. It gives a bit of extra...dimension to Flynn and Walter's designs. I can't quite describe it, but they feel more real. Doi isn't bad, but his style is definitely more generic anime than Kaneko (emphasis on more, Doi's style is still distinct from the Studio A1 style, which is basically the basic bitch anime style.) The Jonathan on the other hand just straight-up looks like Law Hero.
@@demi-femme4821 I feel like the flatness of Doi's works for SMTIV and pre V generally come from the fact that they were done by some colorist working under Doi named Akira Odagaki. Hell for SMTIVA and SJR he's credited as the game's literal in game character portrait artist. Doi's hardbrush works at least for SMTIV's human designs generally have more depth to them even if they're not as insanely geometrically based as Kaneko's lineart combined with Megumi's blend of really good shading to go with. Unfortunate to see the series's artist direction become so fractured at this point though with all these different artists that've been running around for the past decade, latest one being that SH2 chap.
@@ils4844 tbh, I like the variety. With the sheer amount of spin offs and stuff smt has I think it’s a good representation of the diversity in the series. However, I do still like doi’s the best
@@Moony_7860 There is no "variety" it's just been kaneko and Doi in terms of designs for most of the franchise (where for a bulk of the games people either color Kaneko's work post SFC and/or imitate it). We could talk esoteric about giten's main artist and supporting artists such as doi's colorist and SMTIV's demonic gene manga artist drawing comic scenes for IV Apocalypse, but neither of these are hugely recognized. The elephant in the room is obviously all those guest tokusatsu artists helping with SMTIV's demons designs but so far outside of a few returning to show up in IVA and Dx2 they seem mostly shafted for the near future. Soejima I'm not gonna elaborate on due to Persona's constant mutation into a standalone entity and SH2 has seemingly unfortunately bombed locally for it so who knows if the artist for that is ever gonna return.

Plus idk if kaneko even does any art for the series anymore so yeah ig we’re with doi and the persona artist only for now which kinda sucks Not that their art is bad but yeah you’re right it would be nice to have More variety
