I sincerely think that Buddy would be proud of how this version of his demo of "Crying, waiting, hoping" turned out because Marshall captured Buddys attitude and essence to this rendition and i absolutely love it!
Likely one of the most underrated musicians of all time, even with popularity he achieved. As much as I enjoyed the movie La Bamba, my favorite 3 minutes of that movie was listening to him channel Buddy with a modern twist. If you have a true appreciation for what Buddy Holly's impact was on music, you have to love this guy. If he would have been alive and performing in the 50s and 60s with those riffs, voice, and ultra cool laid back swagger, he would have been as popular as Elvis and the Beatles.
EVEN more famous than Elvis as he was very creative when it came to composing new hits... He influenced the most important popular band of all time, the beatles... So that is an important achievment!!!! Regards from Chile and enjoy the good music.
As a kid I was always excited when he would start performing and this song and also summertime blues I love those 3 songs because of them I love the 50s
@@cejannuzi Bobby Fuller was actually told by his agent forget his name at the moment ( same guy Ritchie Valens had ) to stop trying to sound like Buddy Holly so much ...lol truth
I saw La Bamba when I was young, and JUST like you said: the scene with Crenshaw playing (and Philips on the payphone), and the scene where he “channels Buddy” (like you said) before the plane takes off, were also my favorite scenes of the film. Even though the song was/is upbeat, the scene just has this dark or disparate undertone to it. It was just so powerful.
This guy is great. And he never plays that solo the same twice. This was my favorite song on the La Bamba Movie Soundtrack, well, next to La Bamba of course! :-D
If anybody does another Buddy Holly biopic, let's hope there's more truth to his story. The first time around was a disappointment; facts were omitted, names were changed.
Dan Cameron I could not agree with you more about that Solo, without the F Bomb, but still! If Buddy was alive he would have been happy to hit that one!
I loved it at the time and Crenshaw is on fire playing this Live...not many entertainers can take a Buddy Holly song a stage further but he's nailed this one!
Been watching Marshall Crenshaw, Buddy Holly, Jackie Wilson and a little bit of The Chanteys on TH-cam tonight and flipping through the tv channels...American Grafitti on the tube. I wasn't around during those times, but I sure do appreciate real music!!
Yes, that's "Wolfman Jack". He was a popular radio DJ in the 60's-70's and later after a few big screen roles he transitioned to television. He also hosted a syndicated radio show for many years that aired in 53 countries.
I think Gary Busey killed it in Buddy Holly Story Gary Sang and played all his guitar parts in that film and even at one point in the Winter Dance Party scene almost runs out of breath going from one song to the next! Phenomenal performances on stage and off and was even nominated for academy award but i also love Marshall Crenshaws performance in La Bamba too but Marshall is not an actor but had a very good line in the film which i loved "The sky belongs to stars"
Let's get real here. Buddy Holly only recorded a couple of years and still wrote at least half a dozen songs that become rock and roll standards. By all reports, he was a fine guitarist, too.
It's funny Wolfman Jack looks kinda like Waylon Jennings in this video with that hat on...kinda funny. I love Marshall's version of this song...I love all the music in the movie La Bamba...every artist did his own spin on the originals giving it a current vibe...but still stayed true to the classic sound. The soundtrack is truly amazing. Marshall is excellent live and that solo was pretty much badass. He's got a swagger to him...love him.
Sometimes an artist is able make another artist's song his, or her own.... Hendrix made Bob Dylan's "all along the watchtower" his own.. Gary Moore made Hendrix's "Red House" his own.. Stevie Ray Vaughan made Hendrix's "Little Wing" his own. and Marshall Crenshaw made Buddy Holly's "crying waiting hoping" his own..
Crying, waiting, hoping, that you'll come back I just can't seem to get you off my mind Crying, waiting, hoping, that you'll come back You're the one I love and I think about you all the time Crying, my tears keep fallin' all night long Waiting, I feel so useless, I know it's wrong To keep crying, waiting, hoping, that you'll come back Maybe someday soon things will change and you'll be mine Crying, my tears keep fallin' all night long Waiting, I feel so useless, I know it's wrong To keep crying, waiting, hoping, that you'll come back Maybe someday soon things will change and you'll be mine Crying, waiting, hoping
Regarding the dispute over which version is better, I'm sure that Buddy Holly would not be offended by those who said Crenshaw's is better. Holly's recording of this song was found in his apartment after he died. It was only him and his acoustic guitar. The label took the tape and had a studio band play along with it to make the Holly recording you're familiar with. It wasn't Holly's arrangement or his usual musicians, so it's anyone's guess if it resembled what he might have done.
Buddy Holly is my favorite and dead. Marshall updated this beautiful song perfectly and is keeping Buddy alive. No one is comparing the two - he played him in a movie. Do you think they're comparing Lou Diamond Philips to Ritchie Valenzuela?
Great version of this classic Buddy Holly tune by Marshall Crenshall who I think looks like British pop star singer John Waite. What do you all think does he look like John? Thanks for up loading this fab & gear video. Cheers: Christine V. Berndt
I definitely love that guitar solo.
Best solo ever closely matched with blue days black nights solo
has similarities to George Harrison's solo for the Beatles cover.
That guitar solo is so great. I love it so much.
❤
I sincerely think that Buddy would be proud of how this version of his demo of "Crying, waiting, hoping" turned out because Marshall captured Buddys attitude and essence to this rendition and i absolutely love it!
yes i agree...he made that song everything that it could have been....
I love your TH-cam icon picture.
So much that I have made a sterling silver ring with that on it and also a necklace pendant.
Would you like one?
True, and also made it his own - using the groove from Peggy Sue and playing it completely different from the original
I agree! Totally got that vibe!
Absolutely.

Didn't really sound much like Holly though--it sounded more like Bobby Fuller.

Marshall rocks the hell outta this song. Buddy is smilin" *smile*
homie was so casual about this whole performance. he looks so relaxed the whole time and just killed the whole song.
If buddy lived, he would really be one of the biggest icons in the world. He was really one of the first singer/songwriter.
That solo is unbelievable
Arty Munoz I could not agree more!
2020 and still listening ... the music lives on
Me too ☺️😘 x

ye picked a bad year
2021 brother 🙌🏽
@@samleaaetoa5322 Will there ever be live shows again?
There is no better solo than this version. Omg
I fully agree, wonderfull! and never palyed the same.

Crenshaw really does Holly's songs proud. :)
Actually does them a little better 🤷🏻♂️
He doesn't do Buddy Holly's songs as good as Buddy Holly though.
@@darthtrip7188 I disagree. And I say that as a huge Buddy fan.
@@darthtrip7188 I completely agree. Buddy Holly is way better than Marshall Crenshaw.
I think we're due for a Buddy Holly movie remake, he deserves it, such a great talent and person!
I agree with you something magical about him, could listen to him all day
Amen
If anybody does another Buddy Holly biopic, let's hope there's more truth to his story. The first time around was a disappointment; facts were omitted, names were changed.
They did actually in 1978 they realesed a movie called "the buddy holly story"
The Real Buddy Holly Story. Paul McCartney interviews those who actually knew him. Better then a movie.
Probably my fave guitar solo ever. Tasteful, tech, and flashy.
That makes at least two of us...
Its the key to life. If you are a guitar player or not.
All of it. My favorite too
Mine too.
With tunnel of love
Still listening 2024
Me 2
Love this version, that solo is awesome.
It's too great, I am gonna watch again
Marshall Crenshaw is a damn good guitar player, and the way he performs Buddy Billy's music is awesome. That's a f****** sweet solo too!
Dan Cameron buddy billy?
Dan Cameron I could not agree with you more about that Solo, without the F Bomb, but still! If Buddy was alive he would have been happy to hit that one!
Who the fuck is Buddy Billy? 🤷🏻♂️
Great cover. It's good to see Buddy still living thru other artists.
Love this version....favorite guitar solo of all time!!
Crenshaw is an amazing talent. Definitely my favorite version of this song.
Is 2019 and some how this song got into my head one morning . Classic
I had a note for note dream of this performance...it was awesome!

I agree Kent. Holly was one of the original pioneers of Rock n Roll. He died at a very young age, and there is no telling how far he could have gone.
Perfect guy for playing of buddy holly
Omg I love this and the music lives on forever. Marshall played Buddy Holly so well and really can sing.
He's even better when you're there. Great singer and guitar player
Love Love Love that guitar solo!!!!!
klbax63 It was very sweet indeed.
I dont need much from a musician. Just play genuine shit. This man hit it on the head. Well credited homage pays respect as deserved. Stars aligned.
Very nice, very very nice...that's a Kool Kat.....I always remember how badass his solo sounds on La Bamba. They cut to him just in time you know!

Utterly awesome guitar solo. Great, great cover.
El solo de guitarra imponente.
Much Love from Lubbock ❤
this generation will remember Buddy as sounding like Marhall Crenshaw more than they will ever remember Gary Busey....
70's Fifties were cheesy as hell, I definitely prefer 80's fifties :) And yes, Marshall Crenshaw is definitely the one to remember.
Barabyk yes in my opinion this guy sounded way better than Gary Busey. He even has the look. Crenshaw would've made a better Buddy Holly lol
I dig both.
And of course Buddy too.
uselessjoe, GOOD! I hope so!
Much Respect to both
OH SH!T IT'S WOLFMAN JACK!!! AAAHHHHH was not expecting that. and this version is awesome...
Literally the "King of Rock N' Roll", Buddy Holly !
Absolutely !
Such a good version of this new song. Thanks. 🎸👏🏻👍
Marshall demonstrates great vocal talent as well as slick guitar technique. 👍 really does this song justice for sure.
I'm not like old enough to be in the circle but I love good ol music, it's just so soothing and relaxing
man what a great version...wish I could see him in person...………...
This guy play the role like he’s the real buddy Holly much respect to him, great work
Not really. Buddy was actually very nerdy. This guy was oozing with swag and a high level of cool
Love the rare wolfman jack appearance here
Amazing. That solo...WOW
Really cracking version of Buddys' song, he would be impressed.
NOT MY RITCHIE!!!!!

Great great song. Guitars the guitar solo is outrageous. Love this guy.

They should have used Marshall in a Buddy Holly story movie. He is a lot better than the other guy.
Ya
Marshall is amazing. But Gary Busey was nothing but perfect in the film

in the other buddy holly movie its gary busey
Thank You so much for saying that because i thought the same thing .. Hollywood n casting cant eat a FIST! for that!
Quite a guitar solo, dudes!
Sick Man Mr. CRENSHAW, Inredible Guitar Player!!!
Wow... Always thought he was the perfect Buddy
In 2018, I wonder if MArshall Crenshaw still tours? He's an awesome talent.
Yeah I think he does one of the only fortunate few to escape the late great Holly's curse.
Marshall crenshaw you did a great job on this cover I admire your respect for buddy holly
Amazing simply amazing!!!!👍🤠❤️❤️
i just love this song men.

The legend yes it is
The sky belongs to the stars!
Love this song ❤

Buddy Holly is a legend mostly because he was an inovater in his time..... But that solo is legendary

Oooh God what a perfect song
Marshall does a great job on: Midnight Shift
