  • The Mac Allister garden shredder can shred roughly 100KG of branches/bushes per hour. For small to medium size gardens this shredder is perfect. I bought this from Screwfix for about £139, I am sure I’ll get that money back in future, as I no longer need to take cuttings to the tip etc. This will Shreds Branches up to 45mm Dia.

    Handy tool to have although i tend to disagree with changing the handle placement, its difficult to put into words but imagine it like a sack truck where you tilt it back. I can't see moving the handle to the other side would make it easier. Great vid as usual though!

      I have a very similar machine. As you say grab the handle and tilt the machine towards you. A bit like when you move a wheelie bin👍

      Bought one of these this week. Tilt it towards you and the weight is over the wheels where it needs to be. The bottom of the plastic bin was found to be cracked on unpacking but took it back to my local Screwfix and they swapped it over with a good one without any issues. Seems well made and I think the bin had just taken a knock during the delivery process.

    Thank you... I'm an old chick giving this shredder a go because tip trips were getting too much.

      This is great for me, as I can shred it and put it in the composter. No more trips to the tip, with the "show me your papers" brigade 👍

    The handle is on the correct side!!!! Like a wheelie bin, lean over slightly and pull it behind you

    I've have a very similar (Cobra) shedder for about 4 years with very little problems. I found the handle position to be fine, I put my foot against the wheel and pull on the handle the machine is then quite manoeuvrable using the handle.

    I have a Lidl version of this a quick tip, to stop green shredding blocking round the blade just spray WD-40 down inside & it stops it sticking inside.

    I've got this same machine, but branded as Titan - the safety switch on the collection tub is annoying, so that was quickly bypassed, which then allowed the unit to be turned around on the wheel frame, so now the handle is on the opposite side to the wheels.

    A bit too fiddly for me,I always gauge things by if it takes longer to dispose of it then it does to do the actual job then it's not viable.i would rather dump thevrubish or get the next size up / hire one.

      It is sad what has happened to the Bosch brand. When I was growing up, Bosch were superb and made brilliant products. Now I do not rate them at all, the only decent power tools that they make now are the Bosch blue SDS drills! I would not buy any of their other products!
      Thanks for the comment 😉

    They are fine providing the material is reasonably straight, took down a couple of fruit trees and it shredded the small stuff, the rest is firewood: when adjusting the balde hold the locking ring and turn the inner knob, the front will come off for a serious blockage. not much good for our hawthorn hedges, too many right angles, and there is no hopper for the finer stuff.

    I have the Makita version of this, the only apparant differeance is the colour and the Makita was twice the price. Loved it except for the interlock on the bin was terrible and had to go, very simple to by pass.

      Thanks Cliff. I’m not sure to be honest, there are some socket head screws on the front, so it looks like you can remove the front panel to get access, but I’m not sure if the cutting blades can be sharpened 🤔

    Is it not supposed to wheel like a wheelie bin.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure, at the gym they had benches, the wheels were on the back and the handle was on the front, which made it easy to move. I did a similar thing with a table saw here- th-cam.com/video/iDialznDZ4s/w-d-xo.html

    Hi, I'm looking at buying this tomorrow.
    I used a Parkside shredder for approximately 30 minutes today ( and it had a loud bang and now it turns on but stops after 3 seconds. I looked if it was clogged which it was not.
    I am now going to return the Parkside one to Lidl and think I'll buy this. Do you still recommend it? Thanks

    Do you adjust the blade whilst it's switched on? The manual is slightly ambiguous in that regard.
    I found the holes for the bolts holding the blockage cover are poorly machined.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can do, but only turn the adjuster slowly. Once you get aluminium shavings coming out, you can lock the adjustment knob.
      Or you can do it with the shredder switched off, by looking down the feed hole, you can then see when the gap disappears.

    • @neil_down_south
      @neil_down_south ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ultimatehandyman cheers. I've just bought one of these... Very coarse chippings (1inch cubes), and lots of untouched green twigs. I'm wondering if faulty!

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neil_down_south If it's adjusted correctly, you should get smaller chips.
      If adjusting it does not work, then it could be faulty.
      I suppose it depends on the type of wood though, I have not tried it with many different tree species

  • @mateuszsobanski203

    I’ve had one for nearly a year and used it many times. It’s good if you want to shred the branches for mulching or composting. I wouldn’t recommend getting it if you want to dispose of the shredded material. It’s much cheaper to buy a pruning saw and cut it into smaller pieces.
    The shredder is very noisy!!! It’s also 2.8kW so watch how long it’s running for. Your next energy bill may shock you.
    I had a problem with the adjusting wheel for the blade. The locking wheel keeps coming undone and the blade moves. The thread on it is all chewed up because it keeps happening a lot if I don’t check it every few minutes.
    I’m happy with it as I already have it and made lots of wood chippings. Saying that I wouldn’t buy it again.

      Yeah, these all look very similar. 20 years ago, I would have bought a Bosch one, but their green range of power tools are not built to the same standards that they used to be, so opted for the cheap brand 👍

      @@waynekerrr9027 Sorry, it's not £50, it's £35 per year (not sure if that is per bin, or per household), we have two brown bins, but refuse to be extorted by the council. I built a composter about 8 years back, but the larger branches need chipping, or they take forever to compost down. I think I got the £50 in my head from when it was £25 to have the brown bin emptied, as we have two of them 👍
