    Thanks for sharing this! I actually wondered how to do this and this was much easier to follow than whatever random stuff came up on Google. I have this exact same device, haha.

    Well... some programs allow you to just use it. I've used my xbox 360 controller to record video in the past. I only clicked in the recorder to "change recording key", the program prompted me to push a keyboard key, and i pushed the "A" button in the xbox controller attached to my pc, it recognized as something like "bt_01". It worked fine.
    Another way to use it in windows, is to map the controller as a keyboard, to make that i've used a program called "joytokey", i've used to play some old games that werent compatible with controllers. You can map even the analog sticks to the mouse!

    I am going to try this with a Razer Tartarus Pro. I was disappointed to hear that there were issues with open Razor and Keyboarding Master. With these solutions I don’t think I will need any separate app. Thanks for posting this tutorial

    I used a similar 3 button dictation foot switch for the SMD vacuum pickup tool I made. The outer buttons control the speed of the vacuum pump and the middle controls pump enable and the cycling of 2 valves to build or release the vacuum.

    What is your naming system for your computers? Druaga1 mentioned you had a system for that a long time ago and I have a similar problem with not being creative and having too many computers that require naming upon OS install.

      "First Initial of Owner"-"Minimum Initials to describe computer"-"OS Name"

    Have you thought of mapping the key press to trigger the camera record button, so that your audio/video are in sync for recording? Could be done via RF or just over a cable, would require 'modifying' the record button on the camera though, unless you have a remote trigger option/input on the camera.

    • @TechTangents
      @TechTangents  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I am working on something like this. They can't be "in sync" unfortunately due to CPU delays, so it's almost better they aren't started at the same time so I remember to manually align them rather than them looking "close enough" and forgetting to do it.
      But I will have a WiFi solution for this soon where I can control all devices, camera, audio, and lights from one source. I'll be modifying a cable shutter for my camera. The fine mechanical nature of it is too big of a risk to open it. I may even be able to control it over USB, it has a robust interface for that, but I don't know if there is a linux driver for it... yet.

      Use hardware way. A uC (with integrated usb stack ) talk with this pedal device, redirect the messages through UART to your computer and talk to the camera using LANC.

      I also just had a thought of Reaper as a DAW, it has so good plugins for video synchronization in the Windows version, not too sure about the *nix version. Linux build is still experimental but I've ran it in the past. It's typically my goto on Windows/Mac.

      I have timecode syncing over jackd setup and working. I'll probably do a video on my latest linux video editing setup in a few weeks after I'm completely comfortable with it

    5:11 to 5:20..I'm using pluma editor and am inside that file as root so I can edit it.
    I've followed your directions and nothing works as it should.
    I set google chrome to launch using the tilde key. That works when pressing hte tilde key, but when i replace your "a" ( obviously without quotes) with the tilde key, ctrl s to save the file, then go to the terminal window and systemd-hwdb update , then enter, then udevadm trigger --verbose --sysname-match="event*", then enter...and purposely focus on the desktop...then hit my preferred key ( which in my case is the G1 key on my logitech 710+ keyboard)..nothing happens. -_-. (sigh)
    please help.

    Could I use this method to map my gamepad buttons to keystrokes and map the thumb-sticks to mouse movements? It would save me the trouble of having to find a Linux equivalent of xpadder, although this is a little beyond my understanding as I don't know how to code. Hell a long time ago I tried learning Z80 machine code and I could even wrap my head around that (I know that's a completely different thing but i'm just saying).

    what to do when the device is in /sys/devices/platform/i8042 (aka the keyboard). Can i map the device to itself? I was trying to map numpad 1 to q and it just keeps typing 1.

    Do I create a new /udev file to remap a mmo-mouse or do I use some existing file?
    I don't want to change the standard buttons and scroll but reprogram all the macros

    When I enter"sudo evtest /dev/input/event6" I get the following response: "sudo evtest /dev/input/event".
    I am on popOS 20.04 & event6 is the first (of many events that my Tartarus Pro is listed as: "usb-Razer_Razer_Tartarus_Pro-event-if01 -> ../event6"
    Do I have to install evtest or has the command name/format changed?

    Could this work for the Hyperkin Duke issues from a few months ago?

    • @TechTangents
      @TechTangents  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, joysticks are different in Linux and don't show up in the same way. The Hyperkin controllers all expect some kind of "keep alive" signal that prevents them from constantly resetting.

    i'm wondering do u know if amd back in the day made dule core processors! I Just scored a new computer that has 2 amd processors in them and there athalon! I was wondering if u could give me advice!!

    • @TechTangents
      @TechTangents  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Multiple single CPUs was an option. I'm not aware of any pre-2000 dual core CPUs off hand, but I'm not the be all end all resource for that kind of thing.

    • @tomc6751
      @tomc6751 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      would it be ok if i sent you a picture of the motherboard and cpu's! let me know if that is ok i can send it to your email! If u like and it came with 2 200gig hard drives so i scored was suprised someone would just throw it away

      Where do I download the EXE program or App.. with the GUI interface that allows me to do all this without write a single line of code?????
      NO... well.. that is the problem with Linux...
      Even Android (that you and i both know is practically Linux) have millions of App's that allow you to do everything
      without writing a program... Windows was born under that premise.... while on Linux you still have to write a program even to go take a leak...

    Did you see steam's "proton"? They got wine configured to linux be able to run all the steam library. And they got developing wine, so if they make any improvement it will comeback to wine! And in steam it will be more user friendly and automatic.
    I found that very interesting, maybe i will ditch windows completly in a future.
