    hey andrew - being a carpenter, I am not on the essential list here in new york, therefore I have been out of work for awhile now, with more free time to do some things I like to do, paint in oils - and search out artists online, man do i feel blessed to have come across your website - i need to tell you every minute of your dedicated time spent studying painting shows in each of your works, i especially love your en plein air pieces, so cool to be able to capture nature in a short time on a small surface - thank you for your works and stay safe in these strange days were living

      Hey @sketch as far as I'm concerned you're essential and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Your job, your livelihood and your means of supporting yourself and your family is essential. Still, I really appreciate that you'd spend a little time watching the content I provide, and I am so grateful and appreciative of your positive feedback. Bless you bro! Many more videos on the way!

      @@twasbrillig33 - hey thanks man - yes everyone on this earth is essential - i have had a great career as a carpenter for the past 45 years, fortunate to have not missed much time due to illness or lack of work, so now being 63 and put on the non essential list for awhile due to this virus we have been stricken with is ok with me - i have done many essential things in my life so far for my family, went to work everyday outside summer n winter - married, raised two great kids - now have two beautiful grandchildren - so for me to be on the non essential list and asked to stay home for awhile is ok if it helps keep others safe, i can do some things i like to do around the house, and I was blessed to have come across this great artist andrew, hopefully we get this virus under control soon then I can come off the list and back to work again - so thanks again for your kind words and stay safe in these strange days were living in - jeff

    Good morning to you Andrew , you finally convinced me to oil paint a large 30”X40” seascape!!! « HELP »! LOL! I wish I could show it to you!!! I paint it following your and your friend Samuel Earp’s instructions . I’ve been working on it close to 2 weeks now. Lots more to paint. My dilemma, well, everything and THE ROCKS!!!!! I use your colour combinations and I truly, truly, try to make them look WET. “THEY’RE OK BUT DON’T HAVE THE WET LOOK LIKE YOURS”. I am one of you subscribers, 71 years old and If you have time to read this , can you suggest me why !!! LOL!! My husband is very patient since, when I paint, I have your tutorials on my TV and listen to it (we have 1 tv by the way, LOL). Andrew, don’t know what to say more, but H E L P!!! THANKS!!

    Beautiful, Andrew. I truly appreciate you honestly answering the question, "How long does it take to paint?" Many artists, unfortunately, bristle at this question. It's refreshing to hear you graciously address it. As always, thank you for brilliant content.

    • @MattiasWirf
      @MattiasWirf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with your praise of Andrew :)
      But I wanted to give my thoughts on why some artists might not like that question about time:
      First, it implies time has something to do with the quality of the work. It's often not the case. You could train and prepare for ages to do a work in 10 minutes that's amazing. I have seen many great watercolours artists that are quick, but I can see how much training it took to get there. On the other hand, you could work 2 years on a painting and it could still be bad. Today I saw a guy on Facebook complain that people did not give likes to his drawing he had worked 10 hours on. But like with food, if the consumer/viewer likes it or not is not in correlation to how long the chef spent preparing it. It might even be overworked ;)
      Second. When I get that question, often I truly don't know the answer. I take out a piece and work on it know and then, I listen to audiobooks, I drink tea or coffe, I put it away and work on another piece. The kids interrupt and I have to do something else for a while. Time flies while I enjoy working on an artwork, and (me at least) don't usually keep a timer besides me (if it's not a life drawing session). Maybe I feel the artwork lack something and I might not solve it in my head for weeks. I have a drawing I started on two years ago, and then abandonded. If I decide to finish it, there's just no way I will know how long I have spent on it. It usally ends up with me guessing an amount of time that is probably wrong.

      @@MattiasWirf Same thing with photography. Sometimes I feel like making a list of all that went into a photograph. Like... the Canon with no lens cost $1,000.00 +-, the len(s), if all totaled are several more thousands, the PC to do the processing on?? , maybe $800.00 minimum. Don't forget the lease cost of the software to go with it. 5 years ago, Adobe PhotoShop cost over a thousand dollars, back when you could still purchase the software! Then there is the 'priceless years of practice, and finally - it has to be printed & framed, more $$$. How long & how much do I have into my photography... ha ha ha, yea - right.... A L O T !!!

The water has that beautiful translucent turquoise and I want to get it right so badly. I think with your wonderful video here and expertise, I have a good shot at it. I have had to wait for the correct size canvas ( calls for a good size! No 10x10 will do) and a couple of colors of paint I don’t have. While I wait, I shall study, study, study!👍🏻👍🏻

    Hello Andrew,
    I love your videos of instruction and so enjoy the choices of landscapes. So beautiful! Every piece is just outstanding! I hate to distract you, but was wondering if you have time to answer a student question? I know you work from life, but sometimes use photo reference. Could you either quickly answer me here about what type of camera you use? I would like to do the same practice of using my own photos; I fear taking another person's image. If you can't answer me here...could you please consider doing a "studio" instruction type video about your photos and what you use to capture your images and what equipment you use? Again, thank you so much for giving so much help and beauty and "caring" for student artists! Much joy, happiness, and health to you and yours.❤️ 🤗🎨🖌️🖼️❤️

    I have an issue that perhaps you could help with. I have only just begun painting (my mediums have been graphite and charcoal until recently), and as I am painting my brush seems to collect more paint than I like, and then I get the "mud" that you speak about. Do you clean your brush between brush strokes, after several strokes, only between colors, or how often? I am still learning to use my linseed oil for quicker drying times, and so I switch between diluting the paint and using it as it comes out of the tube. No one has really discussed this topic in any detail (that I could find) in their tutorials. I have never taken an art class, being self-taught, and am looking to refine my painting experience before I get so overwhelmed and frustrated that I stop! Please comment if you could. Thank you and thanks for the tutorials that you have done! Love your work!

    A few days ago I received my first brushes - the tischler introductory set. I used them once, cleaned them with a simple soap and water. Now many bristles on the ultimate filbert brushes stand to the side, a few even split up. Idk if this is a production mistake or if that can occur with new brushes. Do you guys have some tipps?

    It would be really helpful if you show the reference while you're doing some painting once in awhile so beginners can see what you're doing.

    Hey Andrew, I just bought the Milford Sound and Epic Kimberly videos. I also bought your other two videos before. I can't wait to buy the full length seascape video. Of all the videos you put out, this is the one I'm looking forward to the most.

    Hi Andrew, oh my word this painting is Amazing! We have such amazing colours in South Arica too. One day, when I’m grown up 😉 I hope I can produce even just one seascape that comes close to yours! Thank you, so very much, for sharing your talent with us.
