What was that boneville I keep seeing… also this video is AWESOME!
You guys always make the best movies!
This video was sick from beginning to end,
That ending was epic lol
Lucky
About three quarters the way through this video i started to smell anti-freeze... and i thought... Oh thats not good... Then i realized i was just watching a video from my living room and not actually in the car with them. and then i chuckled and laughed at myself.. ...then i thought... Wait... Why am i smelling anti-freeze!
I love this car.
I see people trying to sell s10 wheels claiming they are these wheels pretty consistently.
Glad you boys came!!!! Let’s do it again!
Absolutely!! Thanks for the hospitality!

gotta go mag dump his 50BMG @@JunkyardDigs
That's what she said.
@@JunkyardDigsI have a project for you
Great video! This shot of the car 1:14 is from our family farm. I was fortunate enough to get behind the wheel before my brother sold it to you guys. It's a neat car and I'm glad it's been fixed up so it's safely driveable.
You know, given how this generation of Cutlass dominated NASCAR in the late 70's, it might explain why Angus was constantly trying to turn left.
😂😂😂
Need Tshirts. “Damn it Angus! I said right!”
Handsom Harry Gant drove that generation Cutlass back in those days. He was my favorite driver and the car was as well.

I’m glad there’s people like Kevin and so many others that revive vehicles and put them back in the road where they belong
im a fan of you i rlly like your gran turismo videos
@@leontechtalks thank you so much, that really means a lot to me. I really just do it for fun but I’m really glad you’re enjoying it
And film it for us to see!
I wonder how many old classic vehicles they can revive in one day
agreed💯!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
It's crazy how Kevin can make any car run really good and drive like 2000+ miles on a road trip across the country, maybe I might try and revive some old car one point in my life
Id highly recommend it. My daily driver is a free pickup that sat for 10 years in a field and it's pretty much Kevin's fault I did it
My dream to do this in the nearish future and I have Kevin's channel to thanks for (as well as Thunderhead289)
Your Dad and his cars always being around but not running is me right there. My kids have grown up with a bunch of old cars that I've had forever, some that haven't been in regular use since the 90s. Glad they love cars as much as I do. Time flies, glad you're driving that 442. I kept accumulating projects, but I woke up one day and discovered I'm nearly 55 now and I won't finish this stuff in another lifetime let alone this one. Keep wrenching!
I can't thank you enough guys for making this videos... You are helping me to cope through my depression, pain and stress every single day, you are making my days easier and forget about the hell I am going through right now. Can't thank you enough, please keep up the good work and I wish you happiness more love and success in this new year. Thank you for being who you are. Lots of love from Macedonia!
chin up king things gonna be better
Hang in there, friend!
What is causing you depression, stress, and pain, Filip? I've been through those things as well, and still experience a lot of it on a daily basis. If anything, I'd recommend you TH-camrs doing leather work or wood shop work, for teraputic purpose.
@@basstrammel1322car detailing!
If the bible is a thing in your world, remember that it says "Do not be afraid" exactly 365 times. Weird, huh? God Bless you, friend. Stay strong---there is always light after darkness.
I was thinking that year, one of the engineers was asked what the 442 stood for. His answer was "4 wheels, 4 sale, 2 much money".
😂😂😂😂 that is hilarious!!
4 barrel, 4 speed manual, dual exhaust = 442. I believe it is a 330 ci engine. 🍻🤙🏻
@@HillbillyHippie530 That one appears to be a 2 barrel, 3 speed auto. That's where the joke comes in. 350 Rocket engine, but after the smog years killed the horsepower on them.
Yeah as a 1970 442 owner, it’s sad to see what they became.
Anytime there’s a video with Kevin, Angus and Tom you know it’s gonna be good. Tom always kills me 30:15
More Angus please! He is so freaking entertaining. He’s also a great presenter and host for the channel!
Agreed. He adds a lot to these episodes and I also get a kick out of Ezra. Good people.
And Ezra!
In an alternate timeline, we'd have two videos a week and one of them would be Angus...
People didn't like it apparently and I have no idea why...
@idkbacon yeah I always found that strange. 🤔
That might not be such an alternate timeline soon 👀
One thing I didn't see mentioned is cleaning the cam chain oil metering hole. You can see the oil gallery bolt at 23:30; it's left of the camshaft bore. There is an approximately 0.040 hole in the center of that bolt; it needs to be removed and cleaned or the new chain will be toast in short order.
I was glad to see a 76 442. It's 100% identical to mine, so I was watching very excitingly the entire time :) my dad owned mine back in the 90's but had to sell it shortly after buying, but the kid he sold it to became good friends with my family, and when I was looking for a big boat oldsmobile, he sold it back to us for my first car. Love to see these colonnade cars getting some love!
made u wonder why he even sold it in the first place when u finally got to take the wheel, still got her today?
The world needs much more mook, love the mook
We care about dad’s safety because he will yell at us 😂 I freaking love this channel
"dads full of shit"
Your "Revive a car and drive it too far" videos are some of the most entertaining vids on youtube.
These are some of my favorite videos. The true road trip experience is always a joy to watch.
You fellas take me back over fifty years my dad was a G.M. guy. And dad would rather wrench on his cars and trucks than eat. He was an owner of a repear shop and wrecker service for over thirty years. Great memories.
It's always a good time when Kevin and Angus are together doing something...
except for the singing....

That could have easily been 2-3 episodes! What a treat this was! Somehow I missed the fact you guys surpassed 1 MILLION subscribers! Congratulations!
Loved the walk down memory lane of when you were little. Fun to see your Grandpa's Edsel again.
Mom
I love the attention to detail on this channel. Even taking their time to steam clean the engine compartment.
That Oldsmobile Cutlass is everything the name claims with the go fast goodies in there. I fell to llike that car in this story. Sounds like it's ready to chew anything up and spit it out. It's got soul man, which you can tell by it's saving the boil until you arrived home! Some cars are ghost cars and some with good souls like this one are absolute magic. I's no surpise then hat you guys had a blast even when it was mundane and boring you mustered easy humor. 442 Rocks!
Your childhood story is almost the same as mine! I remember my family always having old cars because we couldn't afford a new one my dad always had an old squarebody up until I joined the Marine Corps and i started my journey on old trucks, I now own a 1965 ford f100 and a 1974 GMC K25 🤘🤘
You guys really knocked it out of the park with this road trip can't wait for the impala uh caprice episode Angus you are the man!!!!!!!
That's really cool Summit Racing sponsored those parts. I want to thank them right here: Hey thanks, that was really cool.
I bought the Capri brake line tool after you recommended it, I actually like flaring lines now. I hate the rest of it, but I no longer fear the flare.
Now that's a Christmas gift: not a thing, but an act of service and love. Well done.
That whole segment about the u-joint was straight up awesome.
I've been binging a load of your videos the past few days and this video made me realize why. You guys so expertly capture the feeling of the old roadkill videos with a nice personal twist in the technical explanations.
Fantastic upload as always, Kevin. The road trips are always golden with Junkyard Digs content. Its not about the destination, but the journey as the old saying goes.
My Dad died before I could do something similar for him. He had a 1973 Monte Carlo he loved and had to get rid of. Now that I have some money and a little more know how I wanted to get him one as close to the one he had as possible. I didnt have the chance to, but the statement you made that you told him you'd do that for him with this car immediately put a smile on my face. Good stuff.
I absolutely died when Angus opened the door to the shop, it hits the grill and “Delivery.” “Oh Tank-you.” 😂😂😂😂 freaking loved that!
😂😂
With a decent torque converter and better gearing in the read end that 442 will probably come to life 👍 Always a great video when Kevin and Angus are working together ✌️
BY FAR, my favorite Junkyard Digs episodes are the ones with Kevin and Angus. Looking forward to next week. lol
Damn sure a lot of Air Flow in that SMASHED rear Header tube lol 😂 😮 😂
Thursday junkyard digs, with Angus, hell ya!!!
Should see Wednesday with @polebarngarage
44:20 lmao i get the same way driving my dad's 73 buick on backroads, high mileage suspension gives them a touchy-sloppy feel
Oh man! My grandpa had a silver one of these, they called it the silver bullet. The body was absolutely terrible but it had a great motor and a three speed manual, eventually the transmission went out and he had to sell it
For some odd reason, in my small town in GA, in the 1970s, Oldsmobile seemed to be everywhere. Friend had a real 70 pace car. Another had a 71 W-30 455 hard top, both of these had the Hurst Dual gate shifter. Knew a guy who had a 74 Hurst Olds. And my senior year, 81, there were 2 of these 76s owned by classmates. One with the 455, special order, in black with gold accents and another in the white with red accents with the rocket 350. My girlfriend drove a 77 black Cutlas Supreme, black interior and T tops. 350 rocket. These later cars were not high performance, but rode very well. Love to have a 76 442. Would bring back a lot of memories. I had a Gold 73 Riviera, GS, Stage1.
I found your channel years ago because the thumbnail said "Roadkill style" and they had basically taken Roadkill off TH-cam at that point. Now there are so many good channels I don't miss Roadkill at all.
Ifnyou dont know yet, check out the Schwartz performance '73 442 for inspiration. I almost bought a blue/white/white guts car in 1990 when i was in high school. Rust holes big enough to pass a grilled cheese through. Glad I passed on it and got an '85 Gbody 442 instead just 2 years later. The olds motors intake manifold tin gasket SUCKS to seal correctly probably why your coolant was evaporating. That plastic chain ended up breaking on my 307" and forced me into a revuild w Engle cam, 403" intake/Qjet amd long tibe hookers. My 307 wpuld run down '87+ 5.0 stangs! stamped rockers suck also, along w the siamesed center exhaust ports. Kinda hard to believe that old design lasted through '87... cool car, love the roofline and tail.
Awesome content, Great chemistry in the garage..
You guys deserve it.
wait he was in the military wow never knew that thanks for your service
You guys are so great together. We need more Mook and Angus in some videos.
Are you trying to get me stabbed?
I had a 76 Gutlass 321, 3 on the tree, 260 V8 with 2 barrel carb, and a single pipe. That car had been road hard and put away wet before I got it but it still handled like a dream in the winter. It was happy sideways on snow covered roads, in fact a friend in a 4x4 Toyota went in the ditch trying to keep up with it. I miss that car.
❤ This is fantastic Kevin, thanks!! My friend owned 1 same color and everything! I had a 73 Chevelle Laguna it also had the swivel seats but I had a 4 speed ❤❤ ! Trying to find another 1 now. Love what you do, keep up the great work saving wonderful memories for us all!!❤❤❤
Great episode. I had a 1975 Monte Carlo that my mom and dad and sister drove . It had the same swivel bucket seat in it and I sat the same way in the back seat during party time and what Nots . Loved that car
"That's the porch light to my house."
"What's that noise?"
The perfect time to ask that, haha! 🤣This was an absolutely epic video, and man was it hilarious! You two make such a good duo on camera and working together, hopefully we will see more of Angus in the future! At least we know we'll see him a lot next week with the Impending doom... I mean Impala! 😂
Good move on the timing chain , the olds was notorious for rotating the nylon gear and bending pushrods!
Thank God a junkyard digs episode 😎
Love all you guys Kevin,Mook,Angus,Dalton,John&Ezra hope I didn't forget anybody I make a living restoring cars& different things gocarts etc whatever I find I get alotta pointers from y'all😎I did forget Dylan mccool oh& Luke(thunderhead 289) from s.c. we could use y'all's knowledge down here😎
"Chevy side post...my favorite flavor of sadness". Winning line of the year! LOL
Right about now...that meme from McTaggert of the cat in the hardhat applies: "Rolling up into work with my unregistered/uninsured sh*tbox: sup fookers!!"🤣🤣🤣
Awesome! I LOVE your revival videos. Unprepared roadtrips are the best!
As many brake and fuel tanks as you do…. I would like to share some information with you… disc brake removal… pull outside bearing and washer… put castle nut back on and snatch rotor and it will remove rear sear and bearing… fuel tank… R&R put a strip of tar paper on each side of the tank top and bottom…stops fatigue.
Great video as usual. It always makes my day when an old car gets revived and put back on the road
This brings back so many memories! My very first car was a '77 Cutlass S with that same body and long roofline with the short trunk lid. The biggest difference in appearance is that mine didn't have that beveled front clip, and was not 4-4-2 badged. It had the horrible 260 ci V8 that was a total dog. It finally gave up the ghost around 90k miles, so we dropped a junkyard '72 Rocket 350 into it. That car was a one-wheel--peel monster, and really moved stoplight to stoplight with the short gear ratio intended for the 260 dog. Topped out around 80 mph though. :)
Angus not knowing directions has made my day 😭
As a CNC/ car techy guy I really enjoy your vids as they are. I feel like your probably the smartest youtuber I watch..keep being you is my advice.
Angus’ description of driving an El Camino was a masterpiece.
"This is the part where I forget to put the line nut on though"
"Oh fuck..."
I laughed my ass off!
I mean, this car has the potential to be one badass cruiser.
If you wanna swap V8s, a 403 Olds would bolt right in. It's already an extra 53 cubic inches. You already have an intake, exhaust, headers, and cam for it. The 350 heads with larger valves and maybe a little bit of porting would give it some good compression and breathing. A 2004R trans for some easy BOP compatible mechanical overdrive and something like 3.42 posi in the back with a 403 would make for one hell of a car.
If you are going to swap motors might as well just get a 455 instead of a 403. The 403 is a siamese fused small block that is not built as well for higher RPM's like the 455.
Yeah, but this wouldn't be a super high RPM car anyways, it'd be a fun, reliable street car. A 403 Olds can be bought running for like 200 bucks. They're cheap and plentiful. Meanwhile, one of Kevin's last times obtaining a 455 Olds involved gutting an RV. The 455 also has a taller deck height, and would require new headers, new intake, pushrods, etc.. Why not just go with the cheaper, easier option and just bolt on another 53 cubic inches?
@@jeffrobodine8579 455s don't like high rpm for extended periods, you could spin a rod or main bearing because of the bearing sizes.
Kevin, gets yourself a pole jack for the lift, it makes working on a lift so much better with exhaust and other stuff
My cousin had one just like this. When he ordered it, he had a 6 speed standard transmission. The car was black with white stripes. He let me use it on a date one weekend in 1978. Man I loved that car. Cool car back in the 70s.
A 6 speed....in a 76 Oldsmobile? Did you mean 4 speed? ........ honestly
I don't think you could even get one stick shift after 1972
An olds 260 v8 could be ordered with a 5 speed in this model. A borg-Warner T50 I believe.
I actually like when you pull the motor. it gives you a real chance to give it a good once over and easily address things that you normally just cant reach. I would prefer you did it more often, personally.
Man, I love watching you blokes on road trips in an old car! Looking forward to seeing the Impala one next week, although I think that (sadly) the last 15 mins of THIS week's video is a spoiler alert as to how the Impala video ends...
Love the sound of that cam, mate. She's got just the right lope for idling along in traffic, bringing siles to people's faces too. By the way - did your fuel economy get better or worse with the eighth plug lead connected again?
They don't have Summit Racing stores down here in New Zealand, but I wish they did! I could spend a whole day there looking things over and a whole other mortgage getting stuff to use "on a project some day". Dangerous places for blokes like us. Is there a government health warning on the door as you go into the place? "Warning: Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to the contents of this shop may empty your bank account". In my case, I'd probably end up talking a lot higher too....
All the best and thanks for the laughs!
What a legendary road trip! I seriously love when Angus is in the videos. His one liners kill me 😂. Thanks as always for the awesome content and inspiration! 🤘🤘🤘
Nice car, guys. Brings back a ton of memories of Moms '76 Cutlass Supreme Brougham, learned to drive in it at 11yrs old. Good days.
I love the running joke of the horn not working, I’m just gonna assume you got a ticket for it once
You guys are incredible getting that olds running and driving and going a 1000 miles in four days WOW! Summit building is freaking huge!!
Blessed to still have ur dad. Enjoy the times you have with him
Hey Kevin I just got to say watching your videos is one of the few Delights that I get out of my day today above any else right now. As I am currently dealing with eviction as well as having all of my own tools stolen out of my garage and so now I can't even do the work to my own Vehicles so. Hopefully you don't have to deal with anything like this because I can tell you firsthand it sucks. Like I said though, you brought joy into the darkness that I've had over the last couple of months. And I thank you for that
Really does remind me of early roadkill, looks like you guys had a blast!
As a 1977 olds 442 owner with the same firethorn red paint. I absolutely loved seeing you guys bring the 77 back to life!
I love the old GM A bodies. I currently have an all original fully loaded 1976 Monte Carlo.
I was eating and nearly spat a mouthful of food at my T.V. Watching Angus dance his way into the tank strap. 🤣🤣🤣 This was definitely my favourite video so far on this channel. So much comedy. I was laughing through out the entire thing. 😂 Also Merry Christmas! 🎅
Just started watching your channel. I love it.

4 3 speed automatic trans
2 dual exhaust

Please give a followup-up resolution to the coolant leak. You can't have Dad's car leak coolant.
I have a soft spot for that generation of GM cars. I remember a Grand Am someone had along my paper route around 1978 or so.
I would love to see the inside of the wagon engine that had low oil pressure
I had a 73 chevelle. I wasted a bunch of money on it and barwly got to drive it, but i loved it. Taught me alot. A bodys are awesome performance projects
I’m hoping the whole “ driving home in a barely functional car before Christmas “ becomes holiday tradition
Kevin, you and Angus have been a huge motivation, and doing this for a living is a dream. Hoping to get to that point soon. Keep up the great work!!
Just goes to show you can always depend on an Oldsmobile to last to the end of time. Truly some of the toughest metal to come outa Detroit.

I’m lucky enough to live 30 minutes away from Summit Racing, glad y’all got to check it out! Great content as always.
Awesome! I live about 15 minutes from that Summit on I-20.
So excited for this episode. I had a 76 442 in about 1983-4 brown and gold. Wish I had found a way to hang onto it. Never see them anymore.

This episode was awesome, it shows the reality of getting an old gem on the road again.

This was one of my dream cars when I was in HS during the early '80s. My best friend drove a red '76 Custom Supreme Brougham with an amazing Mitsubishi car stereo and Jenson Triaxial speakers. So many good times in that car.
