According to Imaging Resource Nikon D2, D3, and D3S DSLRs, as well as Nikkor telephoto zoom lenses, wide-angles, and fisheyes, these cameras, used inside the International Space Station, are largely consumer-grade-they do not need to be modified.
The tech behind space photography is often overlooked, as the images of the earth from the confines of the ISS are so breathtaking as to distract from what went into creating them. Whether or not Nikon remains the go-to camera specialist for NASA astronauts, the more than 700,000 photos snapped by Nikon cameras from outside the earth's atmosphere have a worthy place in the annals of photographic-or, for that matter, space-history.

I paid $200 for a random box of camera gear from a thrift store. There were 30 rolls of expired 120 film, a Minolta srt 101, a Minolta 300SJ, a Nikon d55, three Nikon n2000s, a random 35 mm film camera from the USSR with a telephoto lens, 40 assorted Nikon AF lenses, a Nikon D3 and another full body camera similar to the D3. Not to mention it also had all of the chargers and about 20 batteries for D3 and as many lens filters as you could possibly want.

I think if all that gear is in working condition, you just bought a box of gear valued at approx $1,900. at least, add another $150 for the film... :)

The D3 was not affordable for me at the time, but I'm still very happy with my still flawless D700, indeed the cheaper cousin and missing a few functions, but all in all very much comparable. I also have the battery grip for it, that also fits the D300 (in the times Nikon still was thinking about the customers), and with the grip it almost feels like a D3.

I bought one along with a D700 when i was shooting weddings, two fashion shows and NYC street photography. They have been my favorites until now in spite of a D800 and a more recent Z7. When i got into model portfolios they were still my best. The D3 has a vocal recording feature I often used. The D700 uses the same sensor but the viewfinder is only a 95% view. And only one card slot.
I retired when everyone else was wearing masks and at 83 years old, for some odd reason, the D3 seems to be gaining weight.

When I recently re-entered photography I bought the Nikon D700 along with a couple newer (24MP) cameras. I think I've read that the D700 is kind of like a "baby brother" of the D3. I like your video and sharing of experience. I am not a Nikon user myself, as I have been shooting Canon all my adult life. I had the EOS 1n High speed, the EOS 3 High Speed, and then went digital with an EOS 1D, which I just sold 2 weeks ago. I have been using my trusty EOS 1D Mark II since years. The only problem with these are the Iso, which is not very good to say the least. Therefore, I bought a Canon EOS 1DX Mark II, which is the second newest body Canon made. I won't go for the Mark III, as it's hugely expensive and near the very same camera.
I finally then had better batteries, with Li-Ion and I can shoot pics all day on one battery and the iso is fantastic. All functions are the same and I just really like this camera. They are dropping in price heavily now, so time to get one for little money. And despite the Mark III model and all the new mirrorless cameras, it's plenty good. In fact a super good camera. I don't need to shift glass, don't need the newest. It's also important to go use all that gear instead of just buying new for the sake of new, all the time. Yes, there are a lot of small incremental improvements, but that doesn't really take away anything from a good camera of yesteryear. I also use my old 1964 Leicaflex, generation 1. Great pictures.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Kind regards.

Those are some really nice pictures, I've been looking at cameras like that, that might be the one, I've seen the Japanese sellers they have some nice cameras, I normally shoot a lot of film, black and white I can't afford new digital cameras. I've been wondering if 12-megapixel was enough but I guess it is, I wouldn't blow anything up bigger than 8 by 10, and that would be kind of rare. I appreciate your video and information, since you're using a 12-megapixel I guess it's plenty.

Not to hijack Carmine's comments but I shot with the Nikon D1X and D100 back in the early 2000s which were 5.74 and 6.1 megapixel cameras and I printed up to 24x30 for my wedding and portrait clients and they looked great. 12 megapixel could easily go that size. :)
