In 2016, Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman brought together their incredible talents and long experience of working in Yes to take to the road for a series of concerts celebrating Yes’ musical legacy of the seventies, eighties and nineties. Yes featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman toured first in North America and then brought their live show to the UK in early 2017, including this performance captured at the Manchester Apollo. The band are in superb form in front of a sell-out crowd who are clearly loving every minute of the show which includes classic tracks such as Roundabout, Owner Of A Lonely Heart, And You And I, Hold On, Heart Of The Sunrise, Rhythm Of Love, I’ve Seen All Good People and many more.

I caught this tour back in October of 2016 in Durham. I got the VIP pass and got to meet them! I'm 40, and I have been a life long Yes fan. They were the first band I started buying albums for. I have more Yes albums in my collection than any other band. When I took up guitar lessons, Roundabout was the first song I learned. I had seen them twice prior with Anderson, Squire and Howe in the lineup, but never with Rick Wakeman nor Trevor Rabin. I avoided ALL recordings of prior shows of this tour, didn't look up the setlist, nothing. I wanted to be surprised. Big Generator was the album that got me listening to Yes back when I was only 7 years old, so I jumped out of my chair and totally lost my shit when they played this. They played SO many songs I had never heard live from seeing them before. I have every album, I can tell you the order of the songs on every one, and I know almost every song word for word. Seeing this concert was a dream come true for me, and they did an amazing job of playing songs both the "Classic" Yes era, and the more "mainstream" era such as Big Generator, 90125 and others. I was so happy from this concert I cried, no joke!

    • @Magnetron33
      @Magnetron33 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I have cried at almost all of the 40 shows I saw. Usually the Ander Squire Howe Wakeman and White. Impressive shows throughout the seventies. The Moraz lineup was also killer. Saw the 90125 lineup several times as well and equally impressive but apples and oranges.

It's not samples. It's done via studio overdubs well after the gig. And then it's mixed. In all fairness, most bands do this to some degree. But ARW does it more than most and Rabin is known to have done that on his most recent live album to a high degree.

I would need to use most of my toes and all my finders to count all the Yes live shows I have attended (Met them in Vegas in the 70s) I am truly amazed at how durable the YES trademark has been, given the changes in personnel over the years and the heartbreaking loss of Chris. With that said, THIS lineup, AWR or whatever name they will perform as captures the purest essence of YES as I want to remember them. I cannot remember Jon's voice being any more pure and powerful as it is, even at his age. I admire how the immensely talented Lee Pomeroy has taken to playing Chis' role with such precision of notes and sound and obvious JOY. I have watched Lee add his talents to the likes of Steve Hackett and ELO. Thank you guys for keeping that sound alive and PURE.

Yeah and the mixing all eras thing is a total joke too. This fake Yes plays songs from about 8 albums and nothing after 1994, while the real Yes has, over roughly the same period of time, played songs from about 17 Yes albums spanning the 60s-2014. So, like many of the members of the COA, the very opposite of what you say is actually reality. And it's a proven fact what I'm saying. Go to setlist dot fm or Forgotten Yesterdays and you will see I'm correct. It's all there in black and white. A little tip: a few minutes of research made BEFORE commenting can really go a very long way and keep you from looking ill informed and foolish.

Wow, settle down! So Steve Howe and Alan White are real Yes and the original vocalist for the band (the only ORIGINAL member in either band) and its best keyboardist is fake Yes? Not sure how you come up with that but whatevs. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

    • @donutcookiepie
      @donutcookiepie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well Kaye (who just did a whole tour with the real Yes), Bruford (who introduced them on stage this year) and Squire (who had an extremely large part in forming the current Yes lineup).....THREE ORIGINAL members....endorse the real Yes and NOT the joke cover band that is ARW. Those are facts as is everything else I said. There's nothing to agree nor disagree with. (And if you say that the sun sets in the east...which wouldn't surprise me as it follows your same type of logic......then I will call you out on that too. Lol.)

    • @joeturner6192
      @joeturner6192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

So the fact that the only original member of Yes who is still touring is in this version, and the original voice of the band, is NOT Yes? Kaye, Bruford and Squier are NOT touring as Yes. And let's be honest, Rick Wakeman is the best keyboardist the band ever had. Not taking anything away from the others (I love Geoff Downes), but Rick is the prog keyboard GOD! And to be honest, what Howe, Squier and White did to Jon when he was ill and could not tour is abhorrent. It's their fault the band is not whole, not Jon's. Personally, I look at it this way: I love Yes and now I have TWO versions of the band touring, both with qualified members. I will see either one of them if they come to town, without question. I certainly wouldn't dis the ARW version. Guess that makes me a better fan.

The more I see this, the more I miss YES WEST.
Something really Special about that period.
They kept alot of prog roots, thanks to Chris. Trevor changed it up a bit, because of his musical background. Pop and Orchestral. YES now appealed to so many more.
It's a very romantic, "hip" sexy pop feel( if u will), and had this Great Musicianship that YES always has.
TALK was outstanding. From the song writing, Vocals, and Production. Thank You Trevor Rabin, OUTSTANDING.

Rick has a kind-of Clavinet sound going on during much of the song, which I think really works here. It’s the kind of detail that needs a proper mix to hear, like this.

    Innocence no answer
    To your breaking heart
    If the situation
    Sometimes falls apart
    Then in this ecstasy
    Your charms are frozen
No emotion falling through your arms
Morning, daydream, time still growing shorter
Take me over lead me to the water
    To the rhythm of love
    The rhythm of love
    The rhythm of love
    Why should I escort you
    To your secret needs
    Climbing up your ladder
    I keep falling down
    Anyway will do
    Anyone will do
When you dance to your darkest tune
    Surrounded
As you crawl around the room
Night time fever burning till you're higher
Take me over lead me through the fire
    The rhythm of love
    To the rhythm of love
    The rhythm of love
    To the rhythm of love
    Morning daydream midnight fever
    Morning daydream midnight fever
Inhibitions keep you from your point of view
    Information needing to confuse
In this situation I have found you
    In the rhythm of
    Morning daydream midnight fever
    Morning daydream midnight fever
    Rhythm of love
    Rhythm of love
    To the rhythm of love
    Rhythm of love

Michael Ehlert spot on, this isn’t just “good for 2018” this is a great version period. The presence of both Jon and Trevor Rabin makes it possible. The bass is good. Rick Wakeman is a hero in any place he appears.

777jones this version has a groove and “rocks.” The original is a bit sterile imo. I do think the bass could be louder...the only thing missing.
