This analysis is so freaking good! Loyalty and identity have always been at the center of Crosshair's character. The way he sticks to the Empire despite all the obvious signs that it detests him is so heartbreaking. I think deep down a part of him knew he was wrong and he wanted to go home, but his stubbornness and blind loyalty prevented that. The wedge driven between him and his brothers also didn't help as he genuinely believed the Empire was the way to go and his brothers abandoned him. And I'm so glad you brought up the music! The way his theme goes from the dark, evil version to the "Mayday" theme is stunning. Crosshair is easily one of the best-written characters in recent Star Wars and dare I say one of the best redemption arcs if not the best in Star Wars.

I absolutely love how Disney portrays the Empire. It is in no way a meritocracy or efficient so naturally only the awful gain power. There is no such thing as a "good" moff. One detail I really love was from the Dr. Aphra comic where it showed that despite the propaganda, crime and piracy actually increased in areas that fell under Empire control. Regional leaders were instructed not to deal with crime unless it directly affected Imperial matters. There was actually a propaganda division that had a bunch of actors dress up as Stormtroopers and raiders to make phony videos for the populace. So it's easy to see why Crosshair got so hooked on the idea that Palpatine's Empire was this great unbeatable power.
