I shouldn't love this song. I shouldn't even know it exists. The fact that I, someone who notoriously hates turn-based RPGs, decided to pick up FE Fates because the story seemed interesting (if you played the game you know how that turned out) should tell you how unlikely it is that I ended up playing that game to completion. And in the end, I'm glad I did, because everything else aside, I got to experience one of my favorite OSTs ever.
Dusk Falls quickly became one of my favorite VGMs... ever. I can't really explain why other than the fact that it's almost a perfect song by any metric - melody, instruments, harmony, etc. I knew I'd end up covering it one day, and I decided months ago that day would be whenever I hit my 100th demix. Well, it's not really the 100th demix exactly; there are a few songs I never published, like some early ones that suck and a few commissions I've yet to publish.
I tried to do this one on the GameBoy, but to truly give it justice I had to bring out the big guns, in my case the PCE. This one was a grueling process from very early on, considering just how complex the song is. To make things even worse, the midi I used as a base had terrible percussion, so I had to grab that track from somewhere else. By the time I was finished, this became the song I poured the most time in by a long margin. Not sure I can call it my magnum opus just yet, but I certainly did my best to give the original composition justice.
