In the early mid 70's . Walking from Clarkes to the pass in may I would see schools of sea mullet the size of a suburb. Lighthouse was the place to see it. Before the abattoir closed the fishing was fantastic. A ranger by the name of Mr Watego lived in the big blue house. Chinese Mexican fish and chips two pubs if I recall.
Wow, that is some history there. I would like to ask in that case, is Wategos Beach names after the ranger Mr Watego? It seems that it was - or is it a coincidence?
@@toseetheworld correct. Actually Mr Watego junior. I met his mother she pointed out a dreaming place at Watego beach. Don't swim there she said. I think it was Mr Watego senior rowed a boat out to Julian's rock and back. I met a local I surfed with but he drowned at the pass I think. Mr Watego junior my uncle and father would fish the chair . Low tide only below the light house. A lot of alternative life style people visited. My father was at Byron bay when the last whale was butchered. He took photos.
@@toseetheworld as you know it's the most south easterly point in Australia. I remember it being said Byron bay and I need to find out the indigenous name.. ( my uncle is Aboriginal and the place does have a special spiritual significance.)
@@between666 I got my first opportunity to visit Byron in 2021 even though I'd known about it for a long time - life happened and unfortunately, I never got the chance. However, since discovering it I have been back several times for day trips but have never indulged in its history. Your experience sounds amazing. I recently discovered Wategos Beach by accident and totally fell in love. It is so pretty and doesn't look dangerous at all. Thank you for the info above. Happy to hear whales are not being butchered here anymore. Have an amazing rest of the week. Thank you also for stopping by and watching my video.
I first went to Byron Bay in 1992 as a backpacker from the UK, and i fell in love. I'm now 51 and retiring with my dogs in Byron Bay in September 2024..
wow, it obviously made a big impression on you. Great place to retire. wishing you all the best and September is not that far off. Enjoy your new life.
Hello, my friend! So nice to enjoy another amazing area of this side of Australia! Looks atmospheric anmd so nice! Love to watch the sea, the ocean...It gives me a lot of positive vibrations. Very haling. Hugs and happy week and see you soon! Renata
Definitely!!Thank you so much 👍 so happy to hear that you enjoyed it. There are flights from Singapore to the Gold Coast here. Feel free to jump on and fly down for a little while to enjoy. I can't wait until I can come and visit Singapore for a visit.
Byron often has a lot of negativity towards it. Don’t ever let anyone tell you it used to be better I live in here and this made me feel proud. Ever a changing but always the same … beautiful Byron Bay !
Yes I have found that - some negative comments in past videos. You should be proud - it is a lovely location. Planning another visit soon. Have a wonderful rest of the week.
It absolutely is amazing. I left Vic last year after living there all my life for that exact same reason. The weather is beautiful all year round. So happy that I made the decision. Loving it up here. I hope you have an opportunity to do the same.
I agree. We cannot not go to beaches though thinking about this. After all, we are entering their home - if we are unlucky then it is no fault of any fish/shark. Thank you for watching my video - happy to hear that you enjoyed it.

I didn't note the prices, but things have got expensive everywhere I believe. I just got back from Europe and found it super expensive. Thanks for stopping by and watching though. I really appreciate it.

Not many people in that beach hotel $20 for a schooner or a pint of beer
It was a weekday, perhaps a bit light on customers. But $20 very expensive - I didn;t see that. Maybe because I don't drink :)
This has similiar vibes to Montauk
Wow. I've never been - I'll have to look into that - thanks for the comment and watching. Have a wonderful week.
Nice beach but when a shark is appearing....not nice.

I heard that Australians like to barefoot. So are there actually very few people who go barefoot? And is it mostly men who do so?
Yeah, not as many as you would imagine. Mostly, men I guess. It depends where you are - I don't see as many as I did in the past.
Sullen shaky-cam of chubby tourists on a cloudy day. Not Byron.
Me??? was my cam shaky??? sorry about that.
What a Rip off. Everything so expensive. No Thanks
